At least two of my friends, both immigrants, now live in fear. I've heard absolutely nothing to suggest this is worth the fear and hostility they now face. You're right, I don't want it to work. I want us to learn from our mistakes and change for the better. If it doesn't work though, it would likely mean a lot of people losing jobs along the way. Seems a strange thing to hope for. Although I agree with you on the subject of Brexit, as Ian said, it's up to the likes of Johnson and not us to make this work but I certainly won't be wishing hardship on my own country. The thing is though that I can't look at what the likes of Johnson, Farage, Rees-Mogg, Gove, Francois etc. represent and hope they succeed. They're inherently divisive, and I don't believe their politics can work without a few gaining and the majority suffering. It's like supporting a club run by Steven Vaughan and "hoping" things work out rather than trying to force him out. I suppose ideally what I want is for there to be some kind of spark that leads to a major change of public opinion, and that these characters are, in one way or another, removed.

Listen idiot I never made a cheap shot at cancer sufferer. If you would like to meet me outside the Blues Bar we'll discuss it. I'm 69 but I been told a few things about you too. You are not fit to be a moderator. I expect you'll delete this it's your only way of dealing with stuff. Ban this clown please Mods, for his own sake. The man is clearly unwell. I invite you too to call me a clown to my face. I have already be banned for something I did not do. Nathan Auty cannot leave it alone. I am completely sane to the extent that I'm considering taking legal advice to demand an apology. My wording on that post was clumsy, but as an ex-cancer patient and a nurse who nursed end-of-life psychiatric patients, who often were terminally ill with cancer I take offence by what has happened to me. I did not mock a cancer sufferer. I did however mock the fact that she called Corbyn a decent man.

I'm not sure quite what your problem is Hannibal. You made a very ill-judged comment/joke about a Labour MP with cancer, and refused to retract or apologise for it, so you were rightly given a rest from the forum. You've then come straight back on here telling us how horrible we all are, without saying what you're referring to. You walked straight into that reply from Sychdyn Blue.
Just take a few deep breaths and think before posting. Is it kind, necessary and true? What might be a light-hearted quip in a pub or informal conversation can come across completely differently on an online forum.

I was completely innocence of mocking cancer, but you clowns rounded on me like a pack of hyenas. I offer you the chance to face me and you make light of it. You, Deva Chanter and Nathan Auty need to grow a pair. Don't have a go at someone you don't know if you are not prepared to say it to their face. I'll leave it to Si to adjudicate on.

I did not make an ill-judged comment about an ex-MP with cancer. I've asked Si to send me a copy. I may have got my words wrong and I apologise for that. I would never mock anybody with cancer. I was mocking her because she thought Corbyn was decent, but clearly the electorate didn't agree with that. I'm a recovered cancer sufferer and part of my role as a psychiatric nurse at St Cath's was to give end-of-life care to psychiatric patients who also had terminal cancer. We were a Centre of excellence. I remember using the word sadly in that post. My choice of words might possibly been confusing, that is why I want to see the post again and have someone look at it. I repeat it was NOT my intention to mock a cancer sufferer.

This topic has caused no end of problems and arguments. People's responses to anything they disagree with is sometimes nothing short of bullying. The whole brexit thing has been done to death. It can't be altered even if some people would like it to be. So how about locking the thread. Come back in 5 years and see how it's gone. In the mean time let's all try to be nice to each other.

Outside of the customs union and single market and trading with some Canada style agreement. Lets see if your prescious project, the UK and how many businesses survive that and remember the Brexiteers are slowly dying off and being replaced by a generation who are strongly European. Do enjoy your victory , but be aware that it wont last forever.

The way this thread has descended into insults, name calling, racist and health innuendos, and even threats of violence, shows EXACTLY why a responsible level of moderation is needed. Remember, too, that if ever a successful court case was taken against someone's post, the owner(s) of the forum could be held equally liable. It doesn't pay to be TOO liberal, sadly. There are too many people, many of whom of whom are narcissistic bullies and extremists, who do not care what harm or damage they do to others, even via a board like this which supports the club that they profess to love.

It's awful to politicise terrorism but Johnson himself shamelessly did it after the London Bridge attacks before the election. Some nonsense about how these things were happening because we weren't "getting Brexit done". Well, we left the EU on Friday so why did it happen again the very day after? This is the attitude I want people to take with him - don't give him excuses. He should be judged by the same simplistic jingoism that won him the election.

Dominic Raaaaaaab is the next Conservative politician to have a go at displaying absolute stupidity on television.
Boris Johnson’s withdrawal agreement says that the UK will NOT be aligned with EU regulations on trade after Brexit.
That means that any trade we DO wish to have will EU countries will be subject to border checks & tariffs, BECAUSE we are NOT aligned with them on regulations.
Seems straightforward right? Not for Raaaaaaaaaaaab....
Our Foreign Secretary is claiming that the withdrawal agreement and political declaration somehow PREVENTS the EU from placing border checks and regulations on trade with the UK. This is not at all the case - in fact the opposite is true.
Sky’s Sophie Ridge did well to reveal that he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about, but failed to really nail him down on it. The electorate need these things to made painfully clear to them through our media (what a terrifying thing to be relying on to preserve democracy!).

I see the Green Party have reported the Campaign Against Antisemitism to the Charity Commission over heading a number of anti-Labour Party smear campaigns.
Let’s hope the CC strips this utterly despicable bunch of shysters’ charity status.
And the fact it's the Greens who have complained is excellent. Totally messes the Israel lobby up as they can't claim the move is Labour being antisemtic.
The complaint, according to the Morning Star, concerns CAA’s head of political investigations, Joe Glasman, in a video published shortly after the 2019 election result.
Mr Glasman comments on Labour’s election defeat by saying that “the beast is slain,” also using the word “slaughtered.” The bizarre video appears to show Mr Glasman admitting to co-ordinating a campaign using “spies and intel” against the party.
Is this the sort of conduct a registered charity should be engaging in without impunity?
This group, who many suspect are just a front for the Israel lobby, only ever seem to be really intetested in alleged antisemitism on the left and ignore the much bigger and far more blatant problem on the right....for example if a left winger had written a book full of blatant antisemitic tropes like Boris Johnson had, they'd have been screaming at the top of their lungs... yet from them we have heard nothing as far as I'm aware.
Still it shows that there are decent principled people in the Greens who put what is right before party politics.

Watching itv news last night there were Dutch fishermen who are quite upset that they may not be allowed to fish in our waters. They think because they have always been allowed it should Continue. Then watched programme on cornish fishermen on catch up. The industry is dieing due to massive trawlers from holla nd hoovering up our sea bed yet we are kept to strict quotas on what we can catch. Don't think that's fair.

I won't pretend to understand fishing, but just looking a map, we have a hell of a lot of "waters" - certainly more than the Netherlands and probably more than any other country in Europe. Should this really be a problem?
If the Dutch fishermen can come all the way to Cornwall, can't Cornish ones do a bit of travelling to a different seabed?
Happy to be educated on this. Just feels a bit like another example of us throwing our toys out the pram and then being surprised when we don't get them back.

It is not the fact that they are fishing its the method they use. They have massive factory ships with huge suction pumps. They not only take fish but all kinds of marine life thus leaving the area basically dead. This is why there is a shortage of fish for our own fishermen.

I doubt very much that Boris Johnson’s Tories give two hoots about our fishing industry. Brexit was all about securing their off-shore tax havens and then going for the hardest possible Brexit (something they are actively pursuing) to create the economic chaos that will reward the disaster capitalists who bankroll them. Anybody imagining anything different clearly hasn’t been paying attention.
