Some good points on here. It should be noted that criticism of a religion isn’t necessarily criticism of the individuals who adhere to that religion. For me the issue with Islam over Christianity, Judaism etc is that there seems to be a much larger number of adherents who follow a strict, literal form of Islam that doesn’t mesh well with British liberal values. What are ‘British liberal values’ and do any religions mesh well with ithem? Just look at Chester, it ain’t Muslims demonstrating against Pride March or the Summer and Winterwatch Parades, it’s Christian Fundamentalists.

Correct - Although Christian Fundamentalists are a real minority of Christianity here in the UK whereas even the most liberal of Muslims believe homosexuality to be wrong with most thinking it should still be illegal.

Yeah Pseudo hit the nail on the head there. Religion in general tends to encourage shitty illiberal views but Islam certainly seems to have far more adherents who fall in to that bracket than the other major religions.

Even moderate Christians though are a bit uncomfortable with homosexuality. Google 'should a Christian go to a gay wedding?' and you'll get a load of long-winded arguments, but they all basically conclude "no, because Jesus blah blah blah".
In Ireland as well, their recent gay marriage vote was basically the Church vs everyone else.
The Bible does clearly forbid it, so I suppose if you believe it, it's hard to ignore that. I would just question why people want to believe that sort of thing in the first place.

Agreed - which is why I 'almost' have more respect for fundamentalist religious folk. They at least take the text as a whole and don't just cheery pick the good bits and leave out the uncomfortable truths. The church of England have at least now accepted female clergy, homosexual clergy and do perform gay marriages and in time this should also reflect through the flock as a whole after a couple of generations. I don't see the same attempt to progress within Islam.

This thread has gone way off topic, so even though the posts are fine I am going to lock it now. Thankfully PC Evans has been ousted!
