It has been announced this morning that one of our famous five, Micky Metcalf, has sadly passed away. This is terrible news. RIP Micky!

Micky was a stand out player when as a young teenager I had become well and truly addicted to this mediocre football team of ours. Rip Micky.

This is truly sad news RIP Mickey. A great player in a great team it really was entertaining watching the Blues then, the only team at the time to score more than 100 league goals and not get promoted I'm not sure if anyone has ever repeated it since

I wonder if there is any information as to where his funeral will be as I'd like to pay my last respects?

Very sad news, was lucky enough to meet Mike when he came to the Deva back in 2011, lovely man. It is really sad to lose him at this time of year for his family and friends too.
Thinking of them all, RIP MM.x

A Chester legend and a very fine inside forward. As it was it those days.

Rest in peace, Micky.

A name i remember from that time when although i supported the club i was rarely able to watch them. Living in London my grandad used to send me the Cheshire Observer sports page written by ? most weeks. Other names i recall from the era were Ray Jones, Eddie Loyden and was Gary Talbot not the main goal scorer. I can even picture Metcalf in the photos..diminutive inside forward. Played in white tops with thin blue stripe..very stylish kit. I am sure i must have watched them a couple of times but my memories are newspress based which is pretty strange but i guess no more so than fans of clubs like Man Utd, the majority of whom never watch them. So Mick Metcalf was a legend beyond the confines of Chester itself.. Thoughts go to his family and freinds.

Thanks for that, Ralp Houdley, of course. If i recall he had a pipe in his mouth in his profile photo. Always good reports. I used to collect the reports and although they have disappeared i must have some programmes with Mick Metcalf featuring.

I wonder if there is any information as to where his funeral will be as I'd like to pay my last respects? Bump to see if anybody has any info. Mick will be sadly missed. The Famous Five were our best forward combination ever. (And as an aside those white and blue candystripe shirts were our best-ever, too.)

Gary Talbot is still going strong and can be seen at matches in Legend's Lounge of which he is one.

Unfortunately didn't get to go today due to be short staffed in work but hope and am sure it was a nice service.
Just a reminder that we'll be paying our respects to Micky before Saturday's match.
