On the back of two straight away wins we return to the Swansway tomorrow where we host Guiseley at home. This provides us with a decent chance to make it 3 wins in a week to continue our decent run of form. There are still a number of key players who won’t be able to play in this fixture so it will be interesting to see whether we can sign one or two players today ready for tomorrow.
We need to continue our undefeated 2019 record where we still haven’t conceded a goal against a side we should be beating. Unfortunately George Green will be suspended for this fixture which is yet another blow for us, although he will only be out for this match. Although we had a little blip over Christmas, we are starting to come on again with 3 straight clean sheets so our lads need your support again as the second half of the season could prove to be absolutely massive for us.
Guiseley will be making the journey from Yorkshire having had a rather inconsistent season so far. They got relegated from the National League last season along with ourselves and haven’t really got a stride going as much as we have. Our opponents sit in a comfortable mid table position though and haven’t lost too many games so will be no pushovers tomorrow. Also, Guiseley went on a good run in the FA Cup where they eventually lost against Fleetwood Town in the 2nd Round, whilst they picked up an impressive result at Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC last week. There will be a few former players/managers returning to the Deva who are Andy Halls, Kingsley James and Marcus Bignot. Andy was here last season and was one of our better players towards the end of the campaign and even waived his contract. Kingsley was also here last campaign and went on to have a forgettable spell, although when he was here in 2014 he shown a lot more promise. Finally, Marcus Bignot will be making a return as Guiseley’s joint manager alongside Russ O’Neil. This may not go down well with quite a few, but I will give Marcus a good reception tomorrow. I know we got relegated under him, but given our circumstances off the pitch he could’ve quite easily walked away although he decided to stay and battle on which a lot of managers wouldn’t have done if they were in that situation. Bern and Jonno went to watch Guiseley’s defeat at Southport on Tuesday so will have a better idea about them in preparation for tomorrow.
As shown in our reverse fixture this season, Guiseley have a few tough lads in their team and won’t provide us with an easy game tomorrow. We just need to focus on extending our unbeaten 2019 record, especially at home where we’ve only lost once all season. Hopefully we will be able to bring in a new body or two today to freshen up the books as we are looking very thin on the line at the moment. Up The Seals!
Score: Chester FC (Howson, Smalley) 2-1 Guiseley Attendance: 1,922 (54 Guiseley)
My predicted lineup: Shenton Jackson Howson Livesey Grand Mahon Roberts Noble Mooney Smalley Dudley
COYB!

Guisleley seem to be the draw specialists and I can imagine Halls, James and Bignot wanting to get one over us, so I think it will be a tough match.
Maybe if we give Halls as much stick as Macc fans did last season, then he’ll have another mare!? 😉

Guiseley one of the lowest scorers in the league so with a pretty much fully fit defence we should be fine on that front. Just need Mahon,Mooney, Dudley etc to turn up.
2-0 — Dudley x2.
1893, 88 Guiseley.

James was absolutely dreadful for us , so deserves dogs abuse. Halls was a really poor signing but tried. In hindsight, Bignot nowhere near, as good as the duo. Woould Barrow have kept, last years team up without a budget? I very much doubt it. With so many injuries, we might have to rely on some of the youngaters playing well. Really need Mahon Mooney and Dudley to be firing.

Bignot was working under near-impossible conditions and did so with dignity, unlike his predecessor. Let's not forget he was also sacked in a public car park after travelling all the way from Leeds to support the youth lads in action. I hope he gets a decent reception tomorrow.
Our relegation was sealed as soon as the board decided Jon McCarthy would continue as our manager following the disastrous end to the previous season - I don't think anybody could have kept us up with the mess he left behind.

The best way of showing those who contributed to our relegation and how much we've moved on is by a quality performance and hopefully a positive result (Personally, I don't include Bignot in the above, always thought he conducted himself well as all was disintegrating around him)
With the signing of McAllister, going for a 2-0 home win with 1780 present

Kingsley was an absolute waste of a shirt in his second spell with us. Couldn't pass a ball three yards. Worst of all he got a big pay off. Halls was also dire but I have some time for him as he waived the contract extension clause. Bignot, not bothered either way.

I was hit and miss on bignot on one hand inherited a car crash and there r ways and means to sack people but the other hand still dines out on one promotion James a dreadful player 2nd time round halls regardless what people think about not triggering his contract still in my eyes one of the worst players ever to wear a Chester shirt all he did was slag Macclesfield off on social media regards tommoz 2-2 Dudley 2 att 1:780

Since you ask the question that can have no proven answer, in my opinion Barrow would have kept the club up and we would now be flying high in the National League. I still loathe Maguire who was instrumental in ensuring Bignot got the job, and likewise the muppets who let him get his way. Given what they inherited I’m very happy with B&J, but like calling in an electrician when the fuse box has blown, I see them as professionals doing a job but it’s not their home.

I admit I never liked him and was delighted when he was sacked (although embarrassed it was in a car park) but hearing Mahony talk about how hard he found working for him confirmed he didn't make the most of what he had last season. Won't be getting a warm reception from me.

Bignot was sold a dud and inherited a situation he couldn’t possibly have envisaged. He had the rug pulled under him with players having to leave the club to try and balance the books and in my opinion handled it with nothing but dignity. He did make some baffling selections at times but he had to try different things to attempt to find something that worked. We then sacked him in a club car park after he’d travelled to watch our youth team. By all means you could question him tactically etc but in my opinion the guy gave it his all in awful circumstances and for that he gets my respect.
Halls was an abysmal footballer but also gets respect for waiving that contract.
However, Kingsley is a different matter. I loved the guy after his first spell and was made up he was back but he didn’t really want to be here and only signed for the big fat contract McCarthy gave him. His effort was questionable to say the least.

On the flip side, Bignot (apparently) didn't stick to his promises to the board regarding moving players out to fund his signings. He brought in players, but didn't reduce the budget to balance that out. That helped put us in the position we found ourselves in last January. Not sure he behaved with that much dignity, unless the cameras or reporters were there.

Hard to move out players who were hardly covering themselves in glory and putting themselves in the shop window for potential suitors and weren't likely to get deals to match the generous ones Macca and Maguire were dishing out that summer. Frustrating to see people still having knives out for Bignot. It was a thankless task for anyone to pick up thanks to the two clowns and the board that sanctioned it all, only they are to blame. Hopefully it's a lesson learned, especially those still on the board. Looking forward to tomorrow, think we'll nick it 1-0.

He spent more than he saved, despite promising to reduce the amount we were spending. He brought in players on "expenses only" whose expenses were akin to a decent wage. He was a failure. Did just as bad as McCarthy after getting rid of some of his signings and bringing in more quality (on expensive expenses) such as Vose.

I think it'll be a close game today, Maybe 1 goal in it. With no striker to assist Dudley we really need a decent game from Mahon and Mooney.

We need to battle through this period where we're missing so many key players. Wouldn't be too upset with a draw, but given our generally poor away form I hope we can pick up all three points at home.
1-0 Mahon
