For me the red could have gone either way, I think GR had a similar one last season. Going to throw this out there for discussion, given the consequences of a slightly mistimed challenge, or even a poor interpretation by often substandard referees, given it was damn near on the half way line, is it really worth making that sort of challenge there? The plus side is, we win the ball back in a position which doesn't really give us any advantage, neither takes away any from them, the downside is we are down to ten men for the rest of the game, and a potential three match ban to follow. Discuss. Spot on. You have to question the thinking (or lack of it) of both players in that situation. All very well getting 'stuck in', but sometimes need to look at the bigger picture. Maybe just have to accept that goes with the territory with Roberts and that overall he has been great for us. Also, those decisions are made in a split second. Playing devil's advocate, say Roberts doesn't go flying in and Halls gets the ball and sets up a goal with a defence splitting pass (I know that's unlikely but use your imagination) - we would be up in arms about Roberts lacking bottle etc etc. Roberts will probably get two or three reds a season.

They would have been champions so many more times, but they were concomitant with the Liverpool team who won so many titles playing a style of football that was effective, but not of the same quality as Leeds. I've just watched the Leeds Semi-Finals v Barcelona in the European Cup from 1975 on utube. Not very good quality of filming, but still worth a view. It's hard to believe that when they won the 2nd of the 3 league titles they only used 14 players all season. I was at the 7-0 trouncing of Southampton that season and the show-boating was cruel.

I think it was two players with history between them and out to settle a score. My view was from the other side of the pitch and I feared Gary might get a red. When viewing the tackle on the highlights video, my heart, as somebody who played the game in the 80’s & 90’s, says great tackle by Halls. But my head says, it’s reckless. He’s off the ground and there is intent there I’m afraid. Probably one of the only decisions the ref got right on the day.
