The Stadium was sited on Sealand Road until 1990 and the Blues were commonly referred to as the Seals for that reason. When they relocated to Bumpers Lane, following their two year exile in Macclesfield, they kept the badge, but it’s fair to say it’s been a Bumpy ride ever since, culminating in it’s death and the end of it’s connection with seals in 2010. A magnificent effort by such as Chris Pilsbury saw a new club rise, Phoenix like, and a new badge was created. Out of sheer respect to all those instrumental in the creation of this new club the new badge should remain. I would be happy enough to see a reference to the past, with a small seal at the base of the new badge, but the badge should always have the new beginnings at it’s heart. In fact the seals badge was only use up until 1983 when the club reverted to their badge based on the City coat of arms, the same season Chester Football Club changed its name to Chester City.

A commemorative shirt for the Leeds Utd game would be good. It would have to be on the 50th anniversary though, which is five years away...

I'm one of the younger generation on here, and I must admit that the blues is probably the most boring/generic nickname you could possibly come up with. Seals is unique to the club, and is a reminder to where our old ground used to be. The old badge was quite an interesting design, and I can't think of any other teams which have one similar. If the club want to be unique, whilst keeping with the club's history, this may not be a bad idea.

Personally I always liked the Seals nickname and always thought the kit worn during the League Cup run was one of the best. Would love to see the return of both but I suppose it's all about personal opinions.

Evening all. I am Harry The Seal, I don’t want to re brand the club or change the badge. I just want to go the games and follow “The Seals” home and away. BTW the fish finger burgers at The Oakland’s are the best in Chester. See you all next week. #COYS #Seals

I suppose we should be grateful our ground was never on Dicksons Drive as we may have been called The Dicks!!

The Seals badge was the result of a competition to create a club badge. I can't remember any of the other entries but always thought that Seals badge was rubbish. The wolf's head was always more classy and has an historical link to the the City (from Hugh Lupus' coat of arms from the 11th century. He was closely associated with William the Conqueror when he came to Chester)

I seem to remember a song called "McNally's Bumpers" accompanying a video about the building of the stadium (my driving instructor did the video). Not sure why "the bumpers" never took off!! Anyone else remember this? I can't be 100% that it wasn't a weird dream but I can still remember some of the lyrics.

I know the Seals nickname stemmed from playing at Sealand Road, but I’ve always struggled to see what actual seals have got to do with the City of Chester! If there is a genuine link other than someone winning a design a badge competition, then I’d love to hear it.
With the proud history of our City, I’d have thought that nicknames such as The Cestrians, Romans or Wolves would have been much more apt.

Any true supporter of Chester would have nothing to do with that,it means nothing to Chester supporters,if i remember correctly it came from a competition in either the chronicle or the observer,it means nothing we are either Chester or City that is is it. Yet after more than 30 years after ditching the seals logo fans still refer to us as seals and it is often chanted at games, but clearly it means absolutely nothing to any true Chester supporter. What makes you think you are any sort of authority on what we are known as?

An interesting debate that has only sporadically broken into pointless scuffles.... For me the Seals nickname has never had much resonance - probably because I started supporting before it was introduced in 1974. I completely get though that those who started supporting in the decade it was used (1974-1983) it will have much more meaning. I think we should use every string to draw people in - including those who used to come who might feel an affinity with the seals identity - and I would like to see seals stuff used for that (T shirts, mugs, soft toys....). But I wouldn't support a rebrand - Martin Huxley's reworking of our historical emblem is a thing of beauty that has far more meaning than almost any other Club badge - we should stick with it and tell the story wherever we can. It is up to all of us to make sure the Club lives up to the values of Our City, Our Community, Our Club - values that have been dented but not broken. Our performance this season on and off the pitch gives me cause for confidence. The Story of our Badge

Not sure a rebranding is necessary but I was one of those supporters who started going in the mid-70s and just assumed we had always been the Seals. I liked it.
As Stan says it gives us a bit of an identity, makes us different. We don't have our own terrace song (a huge shame), or even any original chants. Junior Seals would be much more marketable.

For those of you "younger " ones. Chester has always been blue and white stripes and the "Blues". I supported them in the 50s and 60s with a bit of green and gold inbetween. Than along comes Alan Oakes as player/manager (massive respect) ex Manchester City, sign some ex City players like Cheetham, Mellor,Daniels and Jeffries, kit changes to Sky Blue like Man City? Rumours of Colin Bell buying club butva no go and next thing we"are the Seals ? We arecand always be Chester FC and City/the Blues. Don't need cynical marketing crap !
