I was a glory hunter for the 1974 Leeds match, hooked in ever since and as some have said above, always thought Chester were the Seals until it stopped being used. As many have said, I like the nickname because it is unique, rather than the boring 'Blues.'
I will also never forget turning up to an away game once (probably 20 years ago) and a group of 4 blokes who had obviously been enjoying a few cold ones, standing against a barrier singing:
'Come on you Seals' and then clapping their hands together with arms outstretched and repeating a seal sound. It was hilarious, and would be brilliant if you could get a few hundred doing it.
The new Thunder clap!

Hi, I was reading this thread regarding the rebranding of the club crest so I went onto Google printed of each of the 3 images put them on the table and asked my 2 children to rank them in the order of preference.
Daughter aged 11(No interest in football or Chester FC) - picked the current badge as her 1st followed by the seals badge then the red and blue wolf badge as her least favourite.
Son aged 8 (season ticket holder, academy player) - Picked the current badge 1st, red and blue wolf 2nd, seals 3rd.
Me aged 43 - same as son.
So that’s 3 votes for the current badge in our house.

I don’t know how this became a 3 page thread about changing the club badge etc. I’m just a Seal following my local club I’ve only been twice and im hooked. So Blues, Seals or whatever we are all Chester fans. #COYS #Seals

For those of you "younger " ones. Chester has always been blue and white stripes and the "Blues". I supported them in the 50s and 60s with a bit of green and gold inbetween. Than along comes Alan Oakes as player/manager (massive respect) ex Manchester City, sign some ex City players like Cheetham, Mellor,Daniels and Jeffries, kit changes to Sky Blue like Man City? Rumours of Colin Bell buying club butva no go and next thing we"are the Seals ? We arecand always be Chester FC and City/the Blues. Don't need cynical marketing crap ! I agree with all this, but sadly, in order to get some money in to the club, we do have to go down the marketing route. I just hope that we can keep the present badge, it's perfect and if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

I don't see how changing the clubs nickname and/or club crest would bring more money into the club to be honest!? The most important thing that the club can do right now is to get the infrastructure improvement projects off the ground and plans released to the supporters asap. We've already got a loyal, wealthy supporter throwing money at us as and when needed. Let's concentrate on the more important things like getting those full time positions filled at the club with hard working, enthusiastic individuals!

Having been a supporter since 1961 so before during and after the "Seals" era I personally don't feel that the seals brand did much to improve the club it was brought in at a time when most clubs were known by their nicknames and at the time we didn't have an official one IIRC so I'm not sure rebranding back to the seals is right at this time. If any rebranding is done I feel it should represent the present club and help move it forward, not revert to a short period of our history but that's only my opinion.

A club like ours is all about identity. 'Blues' is not a nickname that gives us much identity - there are loads of better-known Blues than us, and we don't even play in solid blue.
'Blues' works as an official nickname for Chelsea, for example, because they play entirely in normal blue, are probably the biggest and most successful club in England that do, and are in a traditional Conservative area. We're none of those things.
I'm not saying get rid of it or stop saying 'Blues', but why not at least make 'Seals' an official nickname so that it starts being used by reporters, in other clubs' programmes etc? If you say 'Seals' to anyone who knows their football, they will think Chester, so it's ours. I always say this club should be about having or doing something nobody else is.

Do people understand or have any ideas on how much any of this "re-branding" would cost? This isn't just a quick change of nickname. There would be documentation, programmes, Junior Blues would need to be rebranded along with any physical hard copies of sign up forms and documentation that would cost money to design and change and that's just the stuff off the top of my head.
It really is completely unnecessary, there are far more important things people should be focussing their time on, like those full time appointments, where we're up to on infrastructure improvements etc etc.

May be obvious to some but "Seals" is nothing to do with "Sealand"?

Really enjoyed reading this thread and great to think there are a lot of fans who really want to see our club grow with the times. I am all for refreshing an image but I think our current badge represents our history since reformation so well. I was never a fan of The Seals although I have a number of fellow male supporters who absolutely love the name.
Maybe the seals have long disappeared from Chester Zoo but all that pops into my head at the mere mention of the nickname is Oink! Oink and those flapping flippers! Too embarrassing by half in my book!

Why not change the first kit to all yellow? We already have a song in place so it shouldn't be too difficult.
