Surprised at some of the negative posts about this. We raised almost half that amount in a few weeks last year. This will also include companies/sponsors contributing. If every season ticket holder set up a standing order for a tenner a month that would raise £120k a season. Add in all the events that could be arranged. If Stuart can show such largesse, why can't we? Be positive.

I suspect the appeal to the corporate and business community will potentially be brand advertising on ad boards around the perimeter of the main pitch, possibly all pitches? Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the way we go.

The fans won't be expected to raise all of the £300,000 they've already said we may have another legends match, and looking for more links with businesses. This should now be one of the main focuses of the incoming general manager, speaking of which shouldn't we be hearing an announcement soon?

As soon as this was announced, I wondered when somebody would find something negative; good to see it’s only a minority though. Personally, I would rather throw my money into this, than seeing it spunked up the wall on a couple of journeymen footballers. This is the biggest thing to happen to this club (except reformation) since we came home in 1992. What makes this different is that the whole city can truly benefit from it.

No doubt this is a brilliant opportunity, and one that is unlikely to ever present itself again in the foreseeable future. The opportunity for us to find, keep and develop the best young talent in the area is something we cannot overlook.
The slight negative for me is that it's not a training facility for the first team. Obviously, I'm sure it will be used on many occasions for the first team subject to availability, and it's likely to be become a base for if/when we go full time, but at the moment the first team are without a proper training base which doesn't help when attracting players, and still causes Bazza an issue in providing a quality playing surface come matchday. We'll see how it all pans out anyway, even if the first team can train on there for one evening a week then it's better than the current arrangement.
Not sure if this is a stupid question, but who keeps the profits from this? Presumably as the Community Trust have the lease then any profit is held by them and reinvested into community projects and the academy?

Used up a full box of tissues and had to change the bedsheets after seeing this. This will set us up for life. Will it? Any money coming in will go to the Community Trust, not the club. There maybe a grey line at times between them, but I'm struggling to see how the club is set up for life from this. I can see huge benefit for the sport community as a whole. Also gives us a training base once we return to day time training. Without this it's difficult to see how that could be achieved. It maybe that some first season players can have part of their wages paid by the trust for coaching/help etc, similar to how Boreham Wood do it. It's an impressive achievement to get this off the ground. It will help us attract players, and scholars. That should make a difference in recruitment of the youth players. Financial benefits directly from this are a little blurred for me.

Admittedly I don't know the full ins and outs of the training arrangements, but as far as I can see we currently use the stadium and the occasional use of a Manchester facility. So the savings would be not having to pay for the Manchester facility, and not using our floodlights and water? Also savings to be made by staging academy fixtures there rather than hiring out other pitches. But then we'd still have to pay for the first team to train there, so I can't see where the "substantial" savings are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being negative and this is a massive step forward for the club and the area however you look at it.

The Community Trust have already employed players like Tom Crawford, Sam Hughes and Gary Roberts to do coaching work despite having a very small turnover of £80k. The Sports Hub will double turnover and the BTEC could treble it to the £240k mark. This gives scope to employ Community Soccer coaches and players with coaching qualifications or the desire to achieve them would be the ideal candidates. Craig Mahon and Alex Brown have day jobs as coaches. There are a number of other possibilities that this scheme would open up whereby the Community Trust and Club benefit as partners and all this comes from greater engagement with the people of the Chester area and the chance to grow the fan base.

There will be no income from the sports hub until 2020 earliest and he will need to fight hard to ensure sponsors do not switch their finances to supporting the sports hub instead of the first team. We need somebody with the right credentials to oversee the sports hub project, possibly someone seconded from one of our major sponsors.

This will be a base for our superb academy. An academy that has already brought in significant money to the club at no cost. It raises our profile, is at the heart of the community and will undoubtedly make us a more attractive proposition for parents of talented young footballers in the area. With around 85% of the total project cost already funded, all is needed is for local businesses, the community and far sighted supporters of Chester FC to support, promote and ultimately raise the remaining 15% cost for this project to come to fruition. Absolute no brainer.
Just to add, we are crying out across the country for the need of better sporting facilities for our youth to aid them in making the right choices in life. Putting CFC to one side, this in itself is every reason to support this initiative.

Great news for the CT and Blacon community.
As stated though, this does not directly generate income for the club. The club needs to increase its income if we’re to go full time to make use of this facility. I look forward to hearing some news on that front soon.

Also I do have concerns that sponsors will ‘switch’ their sponsorship from the football club to this very worthwhile community project, possibly meaning that when completed the club will be at least 1 division lower & light years away from turning full time.
I do believe in the principle of this scheme, just have grave concerns that it will adversely affect the football club over the next 2 years and we’re hardly awash with money!!

We haven't spent any of the £1m SM donation on this project so lets see what gets announced this summer in terms of how that's going to be spent. It'll be much more focused on increasing income streams for the football club, and eventually returning to full-time football as you mention, which should then allow us to use KGV as a training facility.

From experience construction can be on a fixed price contract. It's up to quantity surveyors to make sure contract as tight as a drum.

It’s clear that the people of Chester don’t give a damn (& remember this only really benefits Blacon, for the rest of the city getting to Blacon either involves a car ride or 2 buses), as I’ve said before I think this is a good idea but genuine football supporters have been asked for money time & time again in difficult financial times and I fear that £300,000 is a huge amount of money to raise in 6-12 months, particularly as we have no marketing people working on this (if we have it begs the question why have they not been raising this money for the football club in previous years?)
