Announced his retirement today. One of my favourite players to wear the blue and white. Gave 100% every game.
We all know how good a player he was but for me there is the untold stories that make him a legend. He’s donated vast sums to “Claire House” hospice and never once asked for publicity, volunteered at food banks and paid for tonnes of stock out of his own pocket. I could go on but I’d mess up this board’s bandwidth. One of the good guys.
Happy retirement!

Hardest working player I've ever seen for a Chester. Proper footballer.

Absolute legend of the game. Did great for Chester, played in the Premier League, and was always a top man.
Played very well for Ireland. And his charity endeavours were excellent.
Never forgot where he came from.
Good luck, Jon!

Saw him play in Scott Brown's testimonial at the beginning of this season for an ROI XI. 60,000 there. Game ended 2-2, but great spectacle.

Luckily Vaughan never got a penny of that cash because the official receiver got it instead. Was around 300k i think

Yeah, that irked me at the time so when we reformed I sent a (polite) letter to the Ipswich chief exec. Forget his name but he was formerly with the British Olympic team. He sent me a nice reply, explaining that the sell on fee would go to the creditors, plus a shirt we could auction. He also spoke to Jon, I believe, who also sent a signed shirt was auctioned. A small gesture but thought it was classy by both. We should ty to get Jon to a game next season as he has happy memories of his time at Chester...effectively rescued his career, as he was spotted by Ipswich in the cup game we played against them. Recall we only got through via a reprieve because someone we lost to had an ineligible player. Maybe Rochdale? Funny old game.
