Keeps us just about in the mix. Was dreading every time I refreshed my Twitter feed but the boys got the job done. Can’t grumble at a 3 points on a long midweek trip, and a clean sheet.

A much-needed victory which gives us hope again. AFC Telford’s win last night extended the gap even further, but with us banishing our North East curse we are back in it again. By the sounds of things it wasn’t an inspiring spectacle, but we managed to dig deep to grind out a clean sheet. Grant Shenton has had a number of critics but fair play to him for stepping up tonight as apparently he made a few top drawer saves to preserve our lead.
We seemed to put on a solid showing in an otherwise flat first half. Akwasi Asante had a shot blocked early doors before Danny Livesey was called into action by making a couple of good defensive blocks. Ben McKenna then had a shot which went wide following a good move. However, Grant Shenton made a superb save as he palmed Simon Ainge’s header onto the crossbar. A deflected shot by Matty Waters didn’t trouble Darlington’s ‘keeper, but Simon Grand put us ahead as he headed home from a tight angle, following from what I believe was a really good free kick. Grand’s goal gave us the perfect advantage going into the break.
I believe the second half was a bit more livelier, but we had to deal with a lot of pressure to see out the game. The hosts had a few chances as a shot went wide, whilst Simon Grand almost scored an own goal as he headed the ball towards the net. We battled really well though to grind out a fantastic win which gives us a lot of confidence ahead of a very tough game on Saturday.
Out of our remaining 7 fixtures you can argue this will be the toughest, but already at home this season we have beaten a lot of the top sides. Also, we were the first team to stop Chorley from scoring back in September, so shouldn’t have anything to be worried about. From a mental point of view I would rather be the chaser than be chased. We can still do this. All we have to do is believe. Finally, thank you to everybody who joined in my live stream tonight which was enjoyable. You can watch it in full here:

Important result that. Well done lads 👏 Yes, 3 points nearer safety 😃 We actually can’t mathematically be relegated now. Technically, we could still win the league on goal difference!

I said after the Leamington game that if you look at previous seasons as a guide, we probably needed to win 6 of our last 8 to get in the playoffs. That’s now become 5 out of 7. Without taking anything for granted, we should be able to win at Nuneaton and Ashton, so that leaves us needing three wins from the other five, four of which are at home. We do still have to play the top three though.
Of course, the best thing to do is to just look at one game at a time. If we win all seven, we’re not going to miss out.

Very important victory ahead of a huge test on Saturday. It was a long overdue away win that, only in my opinion, has probably come too late in terms of a top 7 finish but at least it keeps us in with a chance.

There are some people on here who are a pain in the arse when we lose, but I think we have to understand to an extent that a poor result will generate more comments than a decent win. There’s more to debate after a shocker for a start. There’s only so many ways you can say “good result, that”, especially if, like most of us, you weren’t at the game.

Have to say I much preferred McKenna's lung busting straight drives down the right wing than Mooney's cutting in. Final ball was lacking but didn't lose it in the build up anywhere near as much as usual in the first half. Did get a fair few crosses in to the box.

Like the look of McKenna from what I’ve seen , young hard working winger who puts in some good balls into the box and it’s only a matter of time before akwasi benefits from them

Much better, worked hard and was more involved. Just got tired later on. Looped the ball over from the clever free kick to assist Grand for the goal.

That’s a superb free kick routine. Even better if the little “misunderstanding” before it was part of the act.
