Premier League clubs don't want to play Chester, they'd rather go to China, Thailand, Australia, US or anywhere else they can sell a few shirts.
They do it once in a blue moon just to keep us sweet, but don't expect it every season. Even last year, Liverpool wouldn't accommodate a slight kick-off time change to avoid a clash with the England game, which suggested to me that they view themselves as doing us a favour by playing us at all, and as a feeding hand that shall not be bitten.

In fairness, Klopp admitted as much, saying that they liked to support local sides in the early part of pre-season.

It has been announced today that we will be going on a mini tour to Cornwall, as we will play Newquay away on Tuesday 9th July at 19:30. This time last year I was actually on holiday in Newquay, and I must say it is a beautiful place. Also, whilst I was there I went inside their ground (Mount Wise) which is quite nice for their level. I am really looking forward to visiting this place once again, and I’m sure Newquay Blue will be happy with this news. Bring it onnnnnnn 😄🔵🏟!!!!

Whys the club not announced newquay away yet? Spoke to some one at the club today and believe Newquay have jumped the gun and some parts of the tour are still to be finalised , they won’t announce until it’s confirmed in case it falls through

Do we need so many pre season friendlies?. Don’t recall having this many in recent years and with our injury record are we tempting fate?
Can’t help thinking a small number of testing matches is better preparation/likely to help Bern and Jonno lean more than loads of games with minnows.

To be fair “Chester X1” is usually youth team and trialists.

Bear in mind too that we will have more players in the squad, due to the hybrid approach and the increase in youth players around it. Might as well give them all some pre season games.

Really enjoyed the game at Cairns Crescent last summer too.

Am i right in remembering that we played Leigh at Athertons LRs ground in that first season? Midweek night game that was a dire draw if i remember.

Yeah was a surreal experience in a surreal first season of proper “non league” - enjoyed it though.

Where somebody comes on here and says, "Oh Trialist 1 looks good, is that so and so" and Devachat goes in to meltdown in case another teams scouts are reading our message board in the hope of a scoop. Possibly my favourite part of the season actually.

Personally like playing the smaller teams in pre season. Nothing better then blazing sunshine watching football with a pint

He knew we'd been pasting teams most weeks and was looking forward to a few goals and seeing what we were all about. To be fair, he arguably got the most non-league experience possible.

He knew we'd been pasting teams most weeks and was looking forward to a few goals and seeing what we were all about. To be fair, he arguably got the most non-league experience possible. Match report : “A goal five minutes from time by Chris Simm ensured that Chester’s away league unbeaten run continued but it was two points dropped for the Blues who found the going tough at Leigh Genesis. Around 700 supporters made the journey to Crilly Park and they will have left disappointed at both the performance and end result, though no doubt relieved that Simm’s late great effort brought at least a point.” Maybe we were disappointed on the night, but thank goodness for that single point though. Imagine going to Garforth without that point!

Seem to remember Leigh's goal was an error from Richard Whiteside, who was dropped for the next game with Young taking the unusual step of singling him out for criticism in his post-match interview.
