Who organises these friendly games? Stepped off the coach around 7pm after an 8 hour trip from Cornwall, beggers belief. Even with the Dulwich Hamlet game already penciled in, surely it would've made more sense to have the team returning the day before at the latest. Players carrying knocks already is concerning. Got to agree here, I had my concerns when I heard that we’d be travelling up from Newquay on the same day as having a home friendly. Surely it would have made sense to travel back yesterday? Neil Turner questioned whether the many injuries and strains being was linked to our intense training regime, but Jonno dismissed it and then said that we’ve got players like Kev Roberts who has not had an injury for 15 years and then pulls his groin with us. Burton said he’d never been injured before last season and I’m sure I read something similar about Stopforth. Surely it can’t just be a coincidence that we’ve had so many injuries? At least the squad will have a free weekend to recover before Tuesdays match.

How’s Scott Burton looking, and I don’t mean his tan from Magaluf or his latest inkings?

How’s Scott Burton looking, and I don’t mean his tan from Magaluf or his latest inkings? Not bad actually, you can see glimpses of why Salford rated him so highly but we haven’t seen it nearly enough yet. Could be this season? we can hope...

Thought Stopforth and Roberts were decent, and Murray when he came on. They were a good side, though guilty of a few naughty tackles for a friendly. Hours on a bus not done us much good. Maybe they should have headed back yesterday? Got a feeling that "Titch" Murray will really come good this year, there's a real talent there Agreed ~~ let's hope they give him his head.

Dulwich Hamlet have just won 4-2 at Marine. The big striker who scored both goals last night scored twice again.

I think people criticising the timing of the Dulwich friendly are coming at it from the wrong angle. I'd say it's the arrangement of the Newquay trip that's more questionable. If we're going to do anything like that it should probably be the first thing we arrange, perhaps with 2-3 games down there, and the rest of the friendlies scheduled around it. It feels like we've done things the other way around and put a programme of pre season games in place, then shoehorned in a trip to Cornwall around it.
But never mind, these are only friendlies and I'm happy to accept that mistakes get made and this is how we learn about the season ahead.

The Newquay trip probably achieved what they wanted in squad bonding. But little else.
We had to play a tough game against Wigan first up. Sore muscles from hard running. Players then had a long coach trip to Cornwall on Monday. A game on Tuesday with only 16 fit players, so we couldn't rotate.
Little training Wednesday, as day after a game. Light training session Thursday, presumably. 8 hours on a coach Friday followed by a game.
Not exactly ideal preparation.

Suppose you could see it as these being the challenges you face during a season. Games when you don't want them.

Thursday was a double session, running in the morning then ball work in the afternoon.

Hopefully that was achieved As most of the squad were here last season, I’m not sure whether any additional bonding would have been necessary.

Good feature in the Non League Paper all about the trip down to Newquay. With Steve Hill giving his views. All positives from all there. Stop forth seems a great and fun leader.

Not surprised we've a lot of players with pulls and niggles. Long coach trips, followed by training or a match. Maybe the hard graft has been done now, and they can concentrate on shape and tactics in the next games. Hopefully with a fully fit squad to choose from.
