Definitely our best away performance in quite some time. Given our poor record at Aggborough and Kidderminster’s hit and miss start it was never going to be straightforward for us today, but we delivered once again to come home with a fabulous victory. We should have won by a few more as we missed a few chances from close range, and we received a huge let-off as Ed Chambers missed an open goal, but there’s nothing anyone can do about it now. Kidderminster weren’t a bad side as they had some good spells in the second half, but we defended resolutely to stave off any threat. What has impressed me most overall is that defensively we have been very stubborn, and at the same time we score goals at the other end which are key attributes for a promotion-chasing team. Today’s result preserves our unbeaten start, and we are STILL yet to concede an opposing goal from open play. We were by far the better side in the first period as we started off on the front foot and had lots of possession. Whenever Kiddy had the ball we pressed them which caused them to panic, and that is what has been one of our strong points so far this season. Our opponents had the opening chance of the game as a speculative Milan Butterfield shot went over. Just after that Anthony Dudley should have put us ahead as his attempt from a few yards out somehow went wide. At the other end Russ Griffiths produced an excellent one-on-one save to deny Ed Williams who was almost through on goal. Kiddy went close once again as a long range attempt from Sam Austin was caught by Griffiths, whilst a Gary Roberts free kick brought Cameron Gregory into action. Just moments later we went very close once again as a Kevin Roberts cross was unable to find anybody, hence it went across the face of goal. Our dominance paid off as Matty Hughes finished off a brilliant move to make it 1-0 as he slotted home into the far corner. For the final 10 minutes of the half Kiddy started to come into this contest, but in both defence and midfield we battled well to stave off any threat. We headed into the interval on the back of an excellent showing which reaped its rewards. The second half was a bit more even as Kidderminster had more of the ball than they did beforehand, but once again we worked well as a unit to preserve our clean sheet. Ed Williams forced Russ Griffiths to pull off a low save with the opening attack of the half. At the other end Matty Hughes wasn’t too far off from getting his brace as he performed a looping backwards header which went onto the roof of the net. Our opponents still tried to go at us as Griffiths made a strong stop to deny Correy Davidson. Meanwhile, we had two chances to put the game to bed as firstly Brad Jackson fired wide, before an Anthony Dudley effort found the side netting. The latter had another opportunity before the end as he was unable to dispatch past Gregory. We received a huge let-off with minutes to go as a Russ Griffiths clearance ricocheted off Williams, who somehow missed an open goal from a couple of yards out. That bit of luck eventually paid off as we held on to secure our first away win of the campaign. Just like last weekend, my man of the match for today goes to Matty Hughes who bagged his first goal since returning. Due to him now being fully fit, his energy gave us a big boost as he pressed Kidderminster’s backline really well to cause them problems. He was the focal point in a lot of our attacks as he found lots of space, and of course he finished superbly to score the match-winner. George Waring was effective as usual as he won a lot of headers and held the ball up well once again. At the back Russ Griffiths had another strong display as he made some good saves which resulted in him earning his second consecutive clean sheet. His time-wasting tactic worked well too 😛. At the back both Danny Livesey and Simon Grand had strong games as they won plenty of headers, and restricted Kidderminster from taking chances. Kevin Roberts was brilliant too as he stopped the crosses from going in, and going forward he was quick and made some good deliveries too. In midfield Gary Stopforth covered plenty of ground by breaking up the play, and so did Gary Roberts who crafted some really nice balls and was combative in the middle. Lastly, Brad Jackson was superb once again as Kidderminster couldn’t keep up with him at times, and he was very good on the right. We certainly are making a promising start to the new season, and considering we are still undefeated in a very tough month bodes well. Hereford FC come to town on Monday which should make for a huge game as both sides have got off to positive starts. We have got to be getting at least 2,500 for this one as Hereford will take around 700, and today’s result should encourage more of our supporters to come. Our atmosphere was fantastic in the away end today, and if we are to be challenging for the top 3 then we need to have a strong backing every week. Great report as normal Rio

Absolutely cracking day out. Best away day for a while. I have to mention the support. I thought there was slightly more than mentioned but the noise from behind the goal was amazing. I reckon the players and managers probably got their first real taste of what our support can be worth.
Kidderminster is one of the best places to go as well. Apart from never winning there (until today!), it consistently gives a great experience. Excellent food and drink, really pleasant stewards and officials and a covered away end (obviously makes a big difference with noise).
The work rate of this team is outstanding and despite the last minute scare, we looked in control from early on. Every player puts in a shift and I think Bern and Johnno have got something here. I really hope the stayaways decide to give us a try again soon. The football is significantly better than recent years and these lads deserve our total support (win or lose).

It was like chalk and cheese compared to the last time I visited Aggborough for the FA Cup debacle in the early days of Bignot. Unlike that fateful day when most of the side looked disinterested and generally crap, today everyone put in a shift in tough conditions. I remember chanting "you're not fit to wear the shirt" at FT that day - none of that today, it was as an encouraging 90 minutes as I've seen away from home for a long time.

Great away day!
We should have been out of sight at half time if we’d have taken just half our chances, but you just knew the second half was going to be a battle. Kiddy gave it a go second half, but we still had chances to settle the game. Kiddy are struggling for players and and are nowhere near as good as the team they had two years ago, but you can only beat what’s put in front of you.
Hughes is like having a brand new signing and has shown what we’ve been missing. He looks a real handful and links up well with Waring and I was made up that he got the winner. I’m sure he’ll also be keen to get one over on Hereford on Monday as it was same fixture that he got injured in last season.
It would be great if we could get 3k+ on Monday, but I just hope we put in a decent performance in front of a decent crowd.

Wow, what a win.
There’s definitely something special starting to happen at this club.
Matty Hughes needs to be put on a long term deal. He’s a National League player at the very least. Just hope that s***house from Hereford who injured him last season doesn’t do the same thing.
That win should help swell the gate on Monday. Looking forward to it.

Is that player who injured Matty still at Hereford ? Think his name was Harvey Smith. Looked like he’d won an auction to gain a place in the Hereford squad that night. Absolute donkey he was!

Like everyone had said a cracking day all round.
We are making so many more chances this season than last. It’s really excellent. What we now need to do is take them. We could easily have been 3 or 4 up by half time today. I would love to see stats on chances v goals as today it was probably about 15:1. I think this will be the difference between going up and staying down. We won’t be able to rely on opponents inability to hit open goals all the time.

Couldn’t make it today as been driving home from Scotland. Great result and fully deserved it seems. Smashing to read all the positive stuff on here. Early days but it looks good so far. Let’s hope we can back today’s result up with a home win on Monday.

Watched this out of interest. Got to say, he reminds me of Mccarthy a bit, going on about how magnificent they were after a home defeat, and moaning about how many games they have to play this month (same number as everybody else).

I don't want to drone on but without the own goals we would be smashing this league, I am confident in this team and you just have to look at the talent we have on the bench. It has been a long time since I felt this confident in the team and the managers we have, what really gets me at times is how we go and play away matches and the support is awesome, yet at home our fortress it is like a morgue and people don't seem that assed in singing willing the lads on. Come Monday they will need you to sing loud and be proud, remember Winston Churchill you old gits when the posters said you country needs you, WELL YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU SING LOUD AND BE PROUD, ITS OUR CLUB.

Surprised to see Kiddy fans bemoaning the ref. I thought he gave them pretty much everything second half.
I also think they'll be regretting letting Taylor go in the summer, he looked far better yesterday than anything they had.

Quite funny reading Harriers forum. We are a bang average NLN side and their new right back is a worthwhile upgrade on Joel Taylor who is lazy and uninterested! I don't think we really needed to step it up too much to be honest. We did enough and looked in total control. On another day we would have been out of sight. I think they should be worried about relegation as they have no strength in depth.

It's amazing really that all the goals we've let in so far have been OGs and a stupid penalty. An opposition player hasn't scored in open play against us yet. We're actually unbeaten since the Stockport debacle. That one result blinded most of us to the fact that we ended last season pretty strongly. A lot of people went on all summer about what a terrible pre-season we were having and how we should be worried. You only really know how good your pre-season was once the season starts, and the start we've made suggests it was actually quite a useful one. Maybe losing one or two meaningless games didn't do us any harm?

Our first half performance yesterday was excellent, possibly our best 45 minutes of the season. Some of our passing and movement was superb, passes perfectly weighted to players eg Jackson running at pace. Kiddie couldn't really cope with us and the goal was inevitable. Chuffed to bits for Matty Hughes and you could see the delight on his face as he celebrated in front of the Blues fans. He is genuinely a "class act".
Second half, Kiddie had a lot of possession but created very little except for the miss of season which, in fact, was of our own making.
I agree with some of the posters who think we're a better team with Burton and Mahon on the bench. Jackson and Taylor are providing the pace and directness we've needed for some time. Yesterday's starting 11 is close to being our best lineup. If we can keep it together for as long as possible we'll do well. That said, we do have strength in depth.
Overall, we're progressing well and yesterday was a terrific performance and an enjoyable day out as it always is when we win!
Onwards and upwards.

Maybe losing one or two meaningless games didn't do us any harm? Noticed on Twitter That Jonno sent a message of support to the FCUM manager Neil Reynolds after they lost again yesterday. It was something along the lines of 'keep going, your performance against us pre-season was absolutely outstanding and made us rethink everything about us before the season'. Would make sense too, we saw the end of the 3 at the back and reverted to this tight 4-4-1-1 that we're using. That is good management and exactly what pre-season is about - as long as the management are learning what it takes to be competitive come the start of the season, that's all that matters.
