Excellent performance. Different class. If we play like this, all season, we will be champions. Burton and Glendon excellent. Jones and Morgan had really good games. Jackson was unplayable. His pace scared them to death. Not sure Roberts should have started? His hamatring was heavily strapped to start wwith .

What a shithouse team Guiseley were, dirty bunch! Enough about them, I was a bit worried about Jones started but he won every header and did really well. Morgan fitted right in. Asante has really come back from that FCUM match and is proving many people wrong. Superb performance.

Brilliant - one of the most enjoyable games for a while. Not sure Burton was man of the match - I thought Brad was unplayable and Jones and Morgan were v impressive steeping into defence today. Joel’s corners were superb.
Was disappointed they got a goal. They didn't serve it and if they did, we deserved 6. When you think how many goals we could have scored today and against Hereford and yet we are still 2nd top scorers in the league it’s really encouraging.
Thought Glendon looked good but still think we owe Matty Hughes a contract before him. Matty was superb today.

Well what can one say I think we have the best management duo at the club since Roberts and Green in the halcyon days of the mid seventies, every player shone today and those of you who castigated our talisman striker Asante in the past should hang their heads in shame the only downside being if Mrs Shentons finest had flapped and missed the cross which presented them their goal then her false fingers nails would have been worn down to the bone twittering in his defenses Have a great weekend Deva chatters 😁😉🍻😮

....and what a nasty and dirty team Guiseley were - from bench to the strikers - shame Bignot wasn’t there too.
I also have to say the ref was excellent too. A bit quick to get the yellows out for us at the start but that suited us I think, it meant that when G started getting dirty they got plenty of yellows - and could have have one or two reds.
And well done to the lineo in calling the ref over to have a word with the G bench - just a shame they didn’t get a card too.

Chester 3 Guiseley Vikings RLC 1.
Not only did Bradley Jackson outpace the left back he outpaced the 14.20 EasyJet from Malaga to John Lennon which was flying over the ground. The lad is electric, everything came through him today.
We’re on our way!

Saw that. Crap really. The Scottish League is awful and Connahs Quay have been dicking sides like that. Why are they playing in it anyway? I thought it was only the Conference's top two or three who got in it.

It can change very quickly but we really do look a good side at the moment. All this "we need wholesale changes" nonsense we heard from some fans in the close season is proving to have been as daft as I thought. No team that finishes three points off the playoffs needs to rip it all up and start again. All we've really done is brought it some full backs, changed the keeper (unsure yet whether that's an improvement) and bolstered the squad a bit, allowing us to bring quality like Waring and (on today's evidence) Morgan off the bench.
Delighted that Burton is now showing us what he's all about. Brad Jackson superb again. A special word for Dudley who rarely gets the plaudits but that third goal sums him up - a chance out of nothing by forcing mistakes. Intelligent and hardworking player.

What was really encouraging is that the league table shows that they aren't a bad side, but we dominated them without really having to get out of 3rd gear.
Echo the above, was concerned by Jones and Morgan coming in from the cold against a decent side, but if that's the calibre of our back up then we're in a really strong position. Both outstanding - Jones looks to be a lot stronger and dominant than he was a few years ago.
Burton deserves the plaudits for turning it around like he has. If he had a 1 year deal, he'd have been long gone after a really poor first season but he's starting to turn it round just like Tom Shaw and Stewart Drummond did in the past. Hope he keeps it up. Think the GK is becoming a minor concern, seems to be suffering with his confidence which you wouldn't have thought would be an issue when we're flying as we are.
Running out of plaudits for Taylor, Jackson and Asante. No idea what any of them are doing at this level, but we'll do very well to hang onto all 3. Asante's just a machine and it's great to see him looking so strong. Things are looking good.

Drummond and Shaw won over the fans after a shaky season but the transformation of Scott Burton is something else. Brilliant in the last few games and shows why he was held in such high regard by the managers.

We were fantastic today, if Jackson was a better crosser if the ball & finisher he’d have absolutely everything. Button seems to be playing to his reputation finally. Morgan who I thought looked very ropey in pre season showed what he’s about today, can’t see him getting in over a fully fit KR but he’s an option and his crossing ability looks superb. Asante seems to be firing on all cylinders & how good is he when he is?
Surprised at Griffiths being singled out for criticism, I think he’s one of the best keepers we’ve had in a long time. Maybe people are forgetting this is first real run in senior footy?

An, interesting, take from a Guiseley fan here... "Lacklustre Lions Lose to 14 Men: Guiseley fell to a 3-1 defeat on the road to a very wise Chester side. Whilst the Lions failed to show any clinical progress, the officials managed to miss elbows and foot stamps but blew for across pitch decisions." feedthemtothelions.wordpress.com/2019/09/07/chester-3-guiseley-1-07-09-19/

Another good performance, how it was only 3 I will never know could have easily been 7, we tore them to pieces & looked a threat everytime we went forward similar to the Hereford game. This Glendon looks quality but how much longer is he here? my man of the match was Morgan, I thought he did really well & if Robbo has done his hammy then that will be about a month or so he's out for. Asante is just a goal machine give him the ball he scores, could have had a hat trick too hard luck with the effort off the post. I too would give Roberts a go in goal but didn't he say he couldn't commit to the amount of games this season?
Overall though great performance from us only negative was their consolation they were a poor side just like Hereford & not worthy of it.

Seemed a real gulf in class between the two teams today. Surprising as there was only one point difference this morning. A fair result would have been 6-1.
James Jones came in and played really well. Jamie Morgan came on for Roberts, and also did really well. Both looked like they'd been there all season.
Midfield worked well. Scott Burton is turning into Tom Shaw or Stuart Drummond, in looking better after a poor first season.
We look like creating, and scoring, goals every game.
Last season we looked really good, until a few injuries. Then we looked ordinary. Hopefully the stronger squad, and better attacking options, will make us consistently better.
The crowd is slowly getting the message and increasing each game. That will lift everyone, including managers and players.
Only downside was the keeper. He looks ok with long range shots, but really poor with crosses and commanding his area. He actually didn't have shot to save, but they could have scored 2 or 3. The centre half missed a sitter early 2nd half. He is only z young keeper who hasn't played a season in a league yet. Everton u23 and Fylde reserves don't give you the same experience as National League North. Hopefully he'll sort it, and become a good keeper for us. Wonder whether we could bring Roberts back for the FA Cup games. That could give us more options for later in the season.
Thought the ref was lenient with them today. No.9 and No.8 could both have gone today. How 9 didn't get a card for the challenge on Grand, was surprising. On today's showing you'd wonder how they were anywhere near top 4. Farsley were better than them.

Don't want to jinx it but this is the best looking Chester i have watched since the last time we won this league. Not worrying about the opposition any more, looking to see how they cope with us!

The second home match in a row where I expecting a tough close encounter against teams just below us in the league, but in truth, they have been very comfortable victories against poor opposition in Hereford and Guiseley.
It’s fantastic to see the confidence among our players. It makes you wonder what we could have gone on to achieve last season if we’d have been able to avoid just half of the injuries that we had?
Whilst our home form is brilliant, I still think that improvements can be made on the road, so Telford will be a good test for us next week.
Griffiths does concern me with some of the mistakes he’s been making recently. I don’t know if we have a keeper coach, but he looks a bit edgy and could do with working on a few things.

Still looked dangerous when they changed shape to a 4-5-1 in the last 15 minutes. Perhaps Jackson and Hughes with Asante up top would be a further improvement. Wouldn't be a bad setup away from home midweek, amd we have options off the bench once we've established ourselves in the game.

I may as well copy and paste my reports every week as we are getting better and better. Today we were fabulous once again as we put on a dominant showing to see off a Guiseley side who were really dirty. I can recall their bench going into uproar on a few occasions in January when decisions went against them, so it’s a nice feeling to have as we got the better of them this time. We could have won by a few more if we had buried some of our other chances, but I am not going to complain as we are really putting out a big statement. We are scoring loads of goals, at the other end we are tight at the back, and our general style of play is so refreshing to watch week in week out.
Our first half showing was excellent as we controlled the encounter to fend off Guiseley. One thing I have noticed is that we have a nice habit of scoring very early on (look at Gloucester City and Curzon Ashton for example), and we followed suit once again today as Akwasi Asante made it 1-0. In what was a very similar goal to the one he scored at Curzon, Brad Jackson played a lovely ball in towards Asante who scored from close range. Our dominance prevailed as we had a number of chances, with George Glendon’s free kick going just over. Joel Taylor went close just after as a powerful attempt flashed wide of the right hand post, before Akwasi Asante was so close to notching home his second as his effort smacked the post. Just after the half hour mark though we were awarded a penalty as Jamie Morgan was bundled over. Asante cooly slotted home his 3rd penalty to make it 2-0, whilst that was also his 8th goal of the season. The man is on fire as he is averaging a goal every 43 minutes which is staggering. James Jones went close for us just before the break as a header was cleared off the line, but at that stage we were looking very comfortable. Guiseley didn’t cause us any problems in the first half, hence we went into the break cruising.
The second half was very stop-start as Guiseley made a series of awful tackles on a regular basis which took away the flow of the game. They were quite a slow team in general, but The Lions did have a lot of big lads who irritated us. Aside from that though we did well to break them down whenever we could, as Brad Jackson and Jamie Morgan in particular were both brilliant in getting past a slow Guiseley backline. The opening attack of the half went to the visitors as Aaron Martin headed over from a corner. At the other end Akwasi Asante was searching for his hat trick, although a free kick by him forced Lloyd Allinson to make a decent low save. We received a huge let-off as Guiseley went ever so close to getting back into the game. Scott Garner somehow skied the ball over from about 5 yards on the back of some messy defending. It was a terrible miss for them, and at the other end we missed a sitter of our own as Brad Jackson scuffed a shot wide following some nice work from Jamie Morgan. Not long after, George Glendon curled an attempt towards the wrong side of the post. Just a few minutes later we made it 3-0 as Guiseley gave Anthony Dudley a nice ‘thank you’ present for what he did in his spell there a few years ago. Their throw-in was launched towards the centre of the pitch, but Dudley was quickest to react which saw him easily slot home when one-on-one with Allinson. For the final 15 minutes the visitors had a few spells in their quest to get back into the game. Aaron Martin scored a free header to make it 3-1, although it was only a consolation. It was a bit disappointing to see us not keep a clean sheet as I thought that our defence stood firm throughout the game, and kept Martin quiet up until that point. Despite Guiseley pressurising us, we had a mass of chances at the other end before time. Firstly, a George Waring header forced Guiseley's custodian to turn the ball behind, before Jamie Morgan brought another impressive save out of Allinson. Anthony Dudley was very close to getting a brace as his goal-bound hit forced Allinson to make a strong stop again. Overall we were very comfortable this afternoon, hence we came home with another excellent victory.
Really difficult to pick my man of the match for today. I will opt for Joel Taylor who was dynamic on the left once again. He tormented Guiseley and has been one of many consistent performers for us. Scott Burton was excellent too as he is really showing his true colours now. He reminds me very much like Tom Shaw who was ineffective in his first season, but turned out to be one of our key players the year after. Hopefully Burton will continue his fantastic start. ‘’Sicknote’’ was his usual self as he delivered when it mattered, which takes his tally up to 8 already. Our strike force is sensational, and if things keep on going they will give our ‘Famous 5’ from the ‘60s a run for their money. Both James Jones and Jamie Morgan were always going to be under the limelight today, but they delivered exceptionally to keep Guiseley at bay. After the unfortunate injury to Kevin Roberts, Morgan had big shoes to fill, but he implied what he is about as he was quick on the attack and linked up with Jackson really well. Jones was excellent alongside Simon Grand as they kept Aaron Martin quiet, and made some really good challenges. Brad Jackson was superb once again as he assisted Asante in the first half, and he was even better in the second as he exposed Guiseley with his clever darts down the line. It’s so refreshing to be writing such positive reports on our players as they have been exceptional this season.
Up next is a huge game away at AFC Telford United next Saturday. After another immense result today, there is no reason why we can’t take a following in the region of 1,000. 800 is probably more realistic, but after today’s result and our decent away form thus far, 1,000 would be outstanding. Last season’s performance at Telford brings back nightmares, but hopefully things will change for the better after their stuttering start. Once again our support was second to none today, and it’s great to see our attendances slowly creeping up. At last people ARE taking notice, and long may it continue.
