We enter the penultimate month of the year tomorrow where we will make the venture to Northamptonshire to play Brackley Town away where we search for our first win since September. This is going to be another very tough game as our opponents are yet to lose at home all season. Our selection was wrong last weekend so we must also approach this game in a different manner as we were a lot more ambitious in the final 15 minutes. Brackley are a good side who will punish us if we make any errors because they are on a good run of form.
Last Saturday we succumbed to our first home defeat of the season as we lost 1-0 against York City. There wasn’t a massive difference between the two outfits because both us and York moved the ball around well, but the visitors were more streetwise which was a deciding factor. The first half was rather even as both sides had their moments - with Matty Hughes going closest for us. Meanwhile, the second period was more exciting because it was end-to-end at times. We started off very slowly as our opponents were dominant, and Dan Maguire tapped in from close range to make it 1-0 to York City. In the latter stages of the game we upped the tempo, but a series of missed opportunities saw us lose out.
Brackley Town are doing well once again this season as they currently sit in the play-off places. They started off rather slowly, but since then The Saints have found their feet as a rich run of form has sucked them up into the promotion places. There will be one former blue playing on the opposing side tomorrow, and that is left back Shepherd Murombedzi who had a brief spell here under Marcus Bignot in January of last year. Given our dire financial problems back then he played for free which was very admirable, although a month later he moved to Brackley where he has played at ever since.
Just a reminder that this match will be segregated which means that we will be housed in the Cricket Club End. For those of you who are wondering about the clubhouse, unfortunately it will be closed for the foreseeable future due to a fire that took place during the Summer, so even if segregation wasn’t in place then we still wouldn’t have access to it. However, there will be temporary refreshment bars available so hopefully the choice will be a lot better than King’s Lynn’s which was terrible. A draw would be a good result to start off November as St James’ Park is always a tough place to go. This exact fixture was played on the same weekend last year, so hopefully there will be more injury time drama. It was my birthday yesterday so three points would be a great belated present. Went to Blackpool for a few days at the start of the week so come on boys, don’t disappoint. Up The Seals!
Score: Brackley Town (Ndlovu) 1-2 Chester FC (Elliott, Hughes)
Attendance: 661 (204 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup: Griffiths K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor Jackson Glendon Stopforth Hughes Waring Elliott
COYB!

Roberts has been poor recently, I would prefer Stopforth and Glendon. I'd even be tempted to pick Burton ahead of him

No disrespect intended, but I assume this is only your opinion. I happen to share your opinion, but would have more respect for the managers if they either admitted it, or justified it. As the accusation is in the public domain, in what is a fan owned club, I feel it is their duty to comment. In regard to your predicted lineup, are you hopeful, as I am, that there is no Dudley? What of Asante?

I haven’t read any updates about Asante so I presume that no news means that he will still be out.

Thought Dudley did well in the first half last week before seeing less and less of the ball as the game went on. Elliott's pushing for a place but not sure about Waring. Did ok when he came on last week but was really anonymous at Blyth the week before when last given a chance.

The problem is,as I said last week, that if you play neither Asente or Waring, then the ball will keep coming back at us. As was demonstrated v York.

I don't understand all the doom and gloom. We are a good team, we have our dodgy moments, as mentioned embrace the shitness! If we show up like the Kings Lynn game, cut out the odd mistake we will win.

We need to win this. Form is poor at the moment. 3 points from the last 12 in the league, 3 of those draws we were leading in as well. Ass the 2 cup games v Alty and we haven't won in 6 (forget the 7 nil v Runcorn). If, if we are going to maintain our play off position (forget winning it York will do that due to their budget and ability to strengthen throughout the season) we need to start defending well and then putting chances away, even when Asante isn't playing. That said, I think we are due a bit of fortune. Last week was one of those games where nothing dropped for us in a good position.
I'm not doing a prediction.

Only 2 shut outs this season even in games we won. I think it was a mistake to re-sign both Grand and Livesey. I agree about Roberts and would let Burton have a bash.

Think Brackley away is probably the toughest fixture of the season. They are really organised and tough to break down.
Think we'll lose 2-0.
