I think the weather will have put loads off. It was wet and freezing. Not a good combination. Can’t say I really enjoyed myself down there today. Glad to see a win but I was also glad to get in my car and head home.

Think it would have been similar on a decent day. Alfreton are not attractive opponents with very low away support, as opposed to top of the league York. Much needed win though. I've not been so cold at a match for ages!

Yep, the York attendance was a typical big game Charlie’s gate, today was back to normal regardless of the result last time out.

Alfreton are a horrible team that play horrible football. Am not surprised you could have got their away support into a Ford Galaxy. You’d have to have paid me 10 x the ticket price to turn out to see them. That will have accounted for some of the reduction in the crowd but at the end of the day the attendance was back to the “usuals” who aren’t going to be put off by the weather.

Can't face that drive too often. Fans have lots of reasons for picking their games and as has been said the level we are playing at isn't that attractive unless you are a die hard. Weather always a factor. Did the pies run out today btw?

Weather is a pathetic excuse people are lazy... losing 1500 fans weather is no excuse Point is we didn’t really lose 1,500 fans, we’d have got that gate anyway. The York gate won’t be seen til either a playoff final or a title decider.

It’s very hard to keep people like that because it only takes one sub par performance and there gone again, you can’t win every game 4-0 to keep them happy unfortunately.

We could’ve won 6-0 and they wouldn’t have been back for Alfreton on the coldest day of the year.

Yesterday's attendance was much more the norm for us. Well for a start off hundreds were from York. Lots of school kids got in for nothing at York game. many who don't come every day turned up (the so called floating fans) and the weather was nowhere near as bad for the York game. Sorry but some people just don't fancy freezing to death.

As has been said the next 3500+ gate is likely to be any play off football which we might get involved in. Yes some don’t fancy freezing to death. The majority who attend do so because they love our club not because of the quality of entertainment on offer. I personally have to pick and choose which home games I attend due to the distance and time involved with doing so.

Grown men who are scared of a bit of cold weather for 110 minutes should be embarrassed to be fair.

I almost find fans who only turn up for big games more annoying than ones who don't bother at all. They'll claim to be Chester fans, but they're not really suffering for the claim! In a way, they're glory hunters in the same way as Liverpool and Man Utd fans are.
Not saying people should go to every game, as I don't myself, just that supporting a club means going when you can, through thin as well as thick.

...perhaps those who turned up to the York game don’t want to annoy you, so decided not to bother again.

Bit of a facetious remark from me, and not intended to be taken seriously. However, the club’s low budget makes adequate research difficult. It would be good to identify who opted to attend the York game as a one off, and who dropped out subsequently. I suspect a significant number of those who attend matches are from further afield and are selective in their match choices, and that they all chose the York match, as they would for any ‘bigger’ match

All sorts of reasons why people might go to one game and not another.

I loathe all this 'I'm a better fan than you' stuff. As far as I'm concerned anyone who comes through the gate, whether it's once a season or every week, should be made to feel welcome and not that they are intruding on private grief. It's money in the coffers. We need the floating fans, the day trippers, the Exiles who select the games they attend according to opposition, the fair weather fans. We should be making the experience more enticing, then a few might attend more often. Hot food would be a start. I also suspect we picked up a few neutrals for the York game, as many other matches were off. I'm delighted that we can still draw a crowd at level six.
