Here we go again, sack the managers brigade are out again. đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł No-one has said sack the managers. The argument is that it was too early to extend contracts for managers who have won nowt for the club. Remember we did the same with McCarthy. I hope the managers will bring success over the next two years but do good managers suffer 4 humiliating defeats in 18 months - I think not. Good points Billy and to add to your observations where would we be without Stuart's already significant input.

There was a 3-4 page thread about Bern and Jonno getting a contract extension, which the overwhelming majority were happy with. We've also had an excellent away win since then. I find it difficult to take anyone seriously who waits for us to have a poor defeat, then announces that they think we've made a mistake with the contract. Say it at the time, then! Does that mean you take seriously those who did express concerns at, and even before, the time? All I read at the time was crude contempt and criticism, albeit not from you. What is it about two and a half year contacts in January? Three years ago almost killed the club, and took the club down a league, and now, three years later.....! All the promises at the time about never repeating such mistakes again. A quote attributed to Einstein springs to mind. Personally, yes. I understand there are concerns about whether we should be handing out two and a half year contracts to anyone. And there are some people who are too quick to silence any "negativity".
The club could leave itself open to criticism whatever it does though. Imagine we do get promoted at the end of the season, but out reluctance to offer the pair a new contract causes them to accept a job at the reformed Bury, for example. We'd lose two promotion-winning managers for nothing, and the board would be slaughtered. Weighing up the pros and cons, I think it's right to plan for continuity. They're a good fit for the club and I think some fans forget what a mess we were in when they were promoted. But if other fans think they haven't done enough to justify it, I understand and respect that point of view.
I suppose I'm saying I'd like people to be a bit more candid about their views. I appreciate what btb is saying about how not everyone is as plugged into Deva Chat as I am, but some people are making judgements on the club based on a hindsight the board doesn't have the luxury of. To say nothing when they're appointed, nothing after the very good away win last week, but then jump on it when we get beaten by Royston seems a bit unfair. Don't wait for things to go wrong before telling us you knew they would!

It was a terrible result which has rightly led to criticism. However, the majority were in favour of the contract extension so let's not lose sight of that because of a terrible result. Everyone has the right to get stuck into them for yesterday, but we have been good recently and at this level these results can happen, it's why they are at this level. Just have to move on.

Personally I worry about their ability to progress us up the footballing ladder ,they seem to be comfortable at our present level and below but I have serious reservations with their tactical knowhow at being of any use at a higher level and maybe that was behind Salfords thinking despite the excellent job they did with them.

It's just weird that these occasional absolutely dreadful showings seem to be a 'Bern & Jonno' thing. In terms of actual achievements in the league and cups, it doesn't matter much whether you lose 1-0 or 8-1, but the likes of Blyth, Stockport and now Royston really hurt our pride and tend to stick in the mind.
They're generally popular and get good results. We've had far worse managers and, by Chester standards, we're enjoying a period of slow and steady progress. Yet now and again, we serve up some of the most embarrassing rubbish in our history - quite some doing when it's a history that's already full of rubbish. Just a bit strange!

there is no choice now but to stick at it. let's see if things can improve and get to the play offs, but If there's more shocking results then the people who made an early management extended contract decisions will in for a lot of stick and supports will want heads to roll.

The Jeckyl and Hyde characters are out in force tonight. We lost, it happens. What is worrying is how many goals from crosses into the box we concede. Is it the keeper? Or a lack of concentration in the back four? Do we scout the opposition and work on this stuff in training? If we are serious about promotion we need to stop conceding as many as we do because without Asante we ain't going to score too many. So basically, you criticise people for criticising and then go on to criticise? Very odd post.

The problem with that is we canât get people on board volunteering as it is. Made my views clear last night and nothing will change that but the decision has been made and as a supporter of a fan run club I have to respect and support the decision, just as I had to when JM got given two years, a decision which I agreed with at the time but in hindsight of what happened I didnât want to see happen again. Iâm fed up of embarrassing defeats. It doesnât happen all the time but itâs happened too many times in the last 18 months. But that said, itâs 24 hours on now and in the cold light of day there probably arenât a lot of reasonable candidates out there that Iâd like to see replace the two that we have. They have experience of winning this division. They certainly get the club and they are both extremely likeable men. But results like yesterday have to stop. I donât mean any disrespect to Royston by all accounts they thoroughly deserved their win and they are no mugs. But we shouldnât be going there and losing 3-0 and putting in the type of performance that has been reported. Weâre Chester, we can take losing but have a go. Put a shift in at the very least.

Great opportunity now for the board to justify a decision that some people see as premature at best. I recall, when we had Steve Burr contracted to us, that Eastleigh had an approach about him rejected. www.cheshire-live.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/eastleigh-approach-chester-fc-manager-10295480I would now expect the club to be open in regard to any future approaches, if any, for the current managers, particularly as the main reason for the new contract being offered was the supposed risk of losing them to others.

I attended Saturdays game, both teams played on the same poor un-even pitch and were subjected to the same weather conditions . Regardless of Roystons usual match day attendance they are on a good run of form with some very good players and after the first 45 minutes of match their half time team talk must have been we can win this game boys, these are poor. We allowed them to play to their strengths by continuously knocking long balls into their area and not until the score was 3-0 down did our defence start bringing the ball up the pitch. All three goals were scrappy with our keeper or defence not dealing with the issue promptly, lets face facts we had plenty of players behind the ball. James Jones saved one close range attempt on the line with his head the final score could have been 4-0.
My observations are our management team decided the game was already lost at 2-0 and there was no plan B. League tables don't lie so the majority of the time plan A works for us, but its concerning that most of the time our subs are not effective, my other concern is that they appears to have a love in with certain players, with equally just a capable players still out on loan.
I don't think anyone would have complained with a final score line of 3-2 as regardless of league status the better team won on the day, lets face it you cant win every game but Saturday was a real disappointment in the way we played, our lack of spirit and tactical set up.
lastly at 90 minutes its to late for a dressing room talk its not going to help as its the team and tactics you selected
BLB.

Iâve asked this question few times to some you lot and never got a response funnily enough

Itâs a valid point that nearly all the goals we concede come from balls coming into our box from out wide we donât concede many from balls played through the middle, and it is very disappointing losing the game the way we did but and I have no problem with people having a good rant and moan about it on here. But for me I only have to look at the thread above this one which is about our Chairman losing his wife and having to come to terms with that, puts things in perspective for me .

It was perfect timing for the new contracts, donât forget after it we beat Guiseley who beat York the week before. We need stability and these 2 managers are the perfect fit. If fans think a new manager is whatâs needed then weâll be where we are now in 18 months time. Itâs a process. Iâm not reading this desire at all. Who has mentioned a new manager? I am simply reading concerns in regard to a contract extension, particularly such a lengthy one, given the catastrophe that happened with similar only three years ago. More so on social media but this contract extension is very different from McCarthy's time. We are not blown over budget this time round and we don't have a CEO doing f*ck all on 50k.

Whilst they probably are the best men for the job very few people in football arenât replaceable one way or another. I hope they are both here for the long term and achieve great success with us. Personally, Iâm not so sure from what Iâve seen thus far. They will receive my full support during games as always but results and performances like Saturday, Blyth, Dunston, Stockport and getting beat at home every year by Curzon will receive criticism from me on here. That all said, weâll probably win on Saturday and Iâll think theyâre the greatest managers in the world!
