Attentions turn back to the league tomorrow as we make the trip to Warwickshire to take on Leamington away where we look to bounce back. Our performance and result was simply unacceptable last week, but our form in the league is still very strong so it’s important that we carry it on. Both Danny Livesey and Akwasi Asante have returned to training this week following a few games on the sidelines, so we could be handed a big boost. Also, we have had extra time to prepare for this clash as Leamington were in cup action on Tuesday so we need to take advantage of this.
Our last match was on Saturday as we lost 3-0 away at Royston Town in the Buildbase FA Trophy 2nd Round in what was an abysmal display. The first period was a very poor affair because we struggled to get to grips with the pitch and never got into the game. Meanwhile, the second half was a calamity as awful defending helped us towards a shock defeat. Just minutes in Matt Bateman made it 1-0 to Royston Town as he headed in from a Ben Martin flick-on. Then, Josh Castiglione made it 2-0 to Royston Town with a diving header - again thanks to our inability to clear away. With not long to go Matt Bateman got his second to make it 3-0 to Royston Town as he scored yet another header. We just never got into the game at all and deservedly lost out.
Leamington have had an inconsistent season so far which sees them unsurprisingly sit in mid table. 14 points in the opening month saw The Brakes sit very high in the play-off places, but from September until the middle of November Leamington’s stock dropped with no wins in seven. Since then they have clawed some wins together to stay clear from the relegation zone, and they will want to keep that up, especially with top scorer Josh March leaving to sign for Forest Green Rovers just a few days ago.
The pitch at the New Windmill Ground will be difficult to play on - a bit like Royston’s - so we must adapt to it. This will be the third match played on it in under a week as on Tuesday Leamington played against Kingstonian in the FA Trophy, whilst just 24 hours later Birmingham City Youth had a match on it, so it’s likely to cut up tomorrow. If Danny Livesey is to start then that will be a big boost as he wins lots of headers, and we were very leaky at the back last week. We have never beaten Leamington before out of our three games, so hopefully we will turn that around. Looking forward to my second visit to the Phillips 66 Community Stadium. Come On City!
Score: Leamington 0-1 Chester FC (Jackson)
Attendance: 807 (253 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup: Griffiths K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor Jackson Stopforth G.Roberts Hughes Dudley Elliott
COYB!

We've been a tough side to predict lately. We've had some excellent results, such as the Southport games & at Guiseley, but then let ourselves down against the likes of Curzon Ashton and Royston.

Not exactly the fixture you'd have chosen after last weekend's calamity. We tend to struggle at smallish grounds like Leamington, but I think we'll grind out a draw.

Huge game this with the top 2 playing each other I think anything other than 3 points then I think the title will be gone going for a hard fought tight win
Leamington 0-1 Chester Asante

Have we ever beaten these? I remember last year being a struggle on an awful pitch. Did we beat them at Home? Point would be a good result.

We lost this fixture 1-0 last season.
We’ve drawn our two home games against them, 1-1 last season and 3-3 earlier this season (Matty Waters’ late free kick rescuing that point).
I agree with Lobster - we tend struggle in these sorts of games. It’ll be a tight scrappy draw I reckon.

I've got a feeling we'll win 1-0. We tend to get beat when I predict a win. Sorry, everyone!

Probably the worst fixture possible after Royston. The conditions will be no different from last Saturday. They’ve beaten some very good sides like Brackley and Spennymoor at home this season too.
Leamington 1-1 Chester. Grand

That is true but we only took 260-odd to Guiseley which is a shorter journey, so I can see it being a similar figure tomorrow. We have a few away games coming up so it might be a case of ‘picking and choosing’ for some.

RIO you are watching us week in week out so you are better placed than myself to comment. For our southern exiles it’s easy straight through from London stations. That said it I’d the middle of January and you correctly point out this crucial period of games we have on the horizon. Let’s see how many turn up As usual I’ll make the Tim go see hello to you

Leamington are a mixed bag at home (W5 D3 L4 F18 A13), they’ve had some good results, but also some bad ones.
I think this will be similar to the Guiseley game, if we go there will a desire to dig in and grind out a result then I think we can win, but go there and underestimate them and we’ll struggle. They have lost their leading scorer who looked a handful back at the Deva, so surely that will be an advantage for us.
With Kings Lynn and York playing each other, we really can’t afford to slip up tomorrow.

After last week’s disappointment (and I’m not talking the new Courteeners album) I think Chester will get back to winning ways especially if Livesey and Asante are fit.
2 - 0 Chester (Asante, who else?)

How anyone can 'predict' a win for this Chester side is beyond me. I wouldn't be massively surprised if we nicked it 1-0 but also wouldn't be surprised if we lost 3 nil. Depends on which Chester team turns up.

0-1 Asante. Also hope York lose. IMO KL are too far ahead of us and too many variables for us to catch, but finishing second is massive for us and achievable. So a win today is a must.

How are they too far ahead? They’re bound to slip sooner or later or have a barren spell. We’ve got to play them at home yet too. Long way to go yet.
