Apart from Bignot (my favourite ) as Bruccie used to say - my next chonce would be Kevin Wilkin Curent manager of Brackley (Top Conference North) previous successful Manager of Nuneaton and Wrexham- speaking to Wrexham fans he did ok FA Trophy Final and brought in players like Louis Moult and Manny Smith didn't get a fair crack there

Also met him on holiday few years ago in Crete playing beach volleyball he was a Cambridge City player - reminissed of the day he scored against us when he played for Northampton when we were going for promotion - on a personal level he is a top guy

Good call this. Done well at Nuneaton and brackley. Wasn't a disaster at the goats. Agreed would be a fair call if MB doesn't get it. Any one know if there are going to be any of the potential candidates at the deva tomorrow?

Wilkin is my choice if no compo is required.

Another good shout but I'm ruling him out as we would inevitably have to "buy" him out of Brackley. Sir Fred is quite correct in his assessment of Wilkin's abilities, however.

I think he's a knob. Signs idiots like Jay Harris and Andy Bishop and plays cynical football. No from me.

I think he's a knob. Signs idiots like Jay Harris and Andy Bishop and plays cynical football. No from me. He has made Wrexham a lot of money from Louis Moult and in Manny Smith they now have the best defender in Non league football - what he did at Nuneaton was amazing and now at Brackley topping big spenders in Conference North - as I said speaking to Wrexham fans ( as I worknow there) is mixed but he got them to Wembley now we can only dream of that

His recruitment is his biggest strength. As I've said on other threads, I think (for what it's worth) he would be a good appointment. Given time he could do really well for you.

The fact the job has been advertised, and the new manager will come from one of the applicants, means I've got more chance of getting the gig than Wilkin has. He's already got a job so there's no chance of him applying.

It wasn't my best post and I stand corrected. Still don't think much of him though and would rather we looked elsewhere.

Wilkin is a thoroughly nice bloke. He guided us to Wembley and a third Rd cup tie away to Stoke. Our cup form was decent, scoring goals for fun. Our league form was quite the opposite. Dour, defensive nonsense. His training methods were legendary, in a bad way, earning him little to no respect form the senior players at the club. That was the end of him. Wet behind the ears and learning his trade. Wrexham was too big a job for him at that time.

Wilkin always came across as a genuinely nice bloke. He bought into the Fan ownership model too.
I'm not sure what went wrong with us, he seemed to lose confidence tactically and we were treading water a bit under him. I do think we got rid of him too soon and would have given him another season personally.
He did have a great eye for a player. As had been correctly mentioned he didn't buy Harris (Saunders signing) or Bishop (Morrell) and in fact there were rumours of a senior player revolt while he was here. He did sign Manny Smith, Louis Moult, Connor Jennings, Blaine Hudson, Wes York and Kyle Storer.
He does seem pretty settled at Brackley though.

Wilkin would be a good call for you lot.
I was one of the few that wanted to give him another season - he had great potential and one more season would have given him a chance to get rid of the moaners in the team and bring in a few more of his own choices.

Signed some good players but some dross( Blaine Hudson remember him). Had some decent cup runs but tactically didn't have a glue, Trophy final he was like a rabbit in the headlights . Famously wouldn't play Holnman because he faced the wrong way ๐ณ. But what am I saying GREAT MANAGER, SIGN HIM UP!

Wasn't Wilkin in charge of Wrexham when they got thrashed at home by a dreadful Telford side? Respect the work he's done at Nuneaton and Brackley but there are elements of his time at Wrexham that would concern me, including how they collapsed in the FA Trophy final to North Ferriby.

Easy to blame Wilkin for the FAtrophy defeat but at 2-0 we were coasting thru the game, in fact it was quite boring and fans were crying out for local boy Robbie Evans to be given a taste of Wembley. At 2-0 few would argue. The turning point came, not when young Robbie was introduced but when Andy Coughlin had a brain fart, gave away a ridiculous penalty and gave Ferriby a bit of belief. The momentum was with them and they took it to penalties which they went on to win.
Gonna repeat myself, Wilkins biggest problem was his lack of respect from senior players and his Mickey Mouse trading methods.

I'd argue the fact he did that alongside his playing career probably helped him prior to entering management in the men's game at Solihull at the end of his playing career.
