While I generally take these sort of rumours with a pinch of salt and I have no evidence to believe this any more credible we, as fans should always be on the look out for the next crook that tries to get their hands on our club.
I have no connections to those behind the scenes at CFC. I'm a CFU member and season ticket holder. I have nothing but upmost respect and gratitude for anyone who gives their time voluntary for the club especially those who put themselves in the firing line at board level and I have to trust that they all have good intentions in doing so.
That being said I'm a naturally sceptical person. I'd love to think that everyone that's been involved in our club has had nothing but good intentions but let's not pretend there will have been chancers looking to profit.
CFC is a financially solvent, professional football club playing in a national league with a strong loyal fanbase. There are lots of wealthy people out there playing about with other clubs who'd love a stab at taking us over in our current state.
It's definitely not in the realms of improbability that someone would be sounding out the club and seeing if there was an opportunity. Already there's a significant proportion of the fanbase that wouldn't be averse to some kind of outside investment and others that think our 100% fan owned model has taken us as far as possible. If there was some money man lurking ready to make a play for the club how do you think the CFU membership would vote? I don't think it would be as clear cut as I'd like.
Just like the tactic employed by the tories with privatisation, how do you get the people on board? You run it down, say it's not working and bring in private investment with the promise of improved performance and progress.
Please be clear, I'm not saying this is happening at CFC. I have no connection to anyone at the club other than the girl who takes my ticket from me every week. What I am saying is we must always be on our guard and be sceptical of everyone at our club. The current board are the guardians of what others have achieved over the last 7 years. I trust that everyone of them has CFC in their heart.
