Sounds like Italy are trying to kick Sweden off the park: 0-0 after 23 minutes.

Yeah I really enjoy the Euros/World Cup too, thanks for the write up Lobster. I'm less passionate about England than I was 15/20 years ago but you still can't beat the excitement of being at a major finals - even if our involvement is tediously brief. I also like coming home from work knowing there's guaranteed to be a few games on the telly that evening. As for the remaining places, it'd feel very odd if Italy aren't there and I also hope Ireland don't make it. With you on all accounts here. How anyone celebrate Italy not going is beyond me. One of the greatest footballing nations. Hopefully the Republic can make it. The North deserved to. I'll have my citizenship by then! Taking my son to the Euros when he was nine in '96 and to France last year in his 29th year were lifetime memories.

Maybe it's something to do with them being inveterate cheats.

Maybe it's something to do with them being inveterate cheats. In which case we'll have to ban 98% of players going to the world cup as well as all nations. Every footballer goes down too easily now, and certainly aren't as hurt as they make out.

Ha, yes the Italians know how to do drama. Couldn't help having a chuckle at some of the over-the-top reaction but the World Cup will be poorer without Italy. Always enjoy watching them and they bring a bit of style that looks like it will be in short supply, especially as the Dutch will also be absent. What do the likes of Switzerland, Sweden and RoI bring to the table in terms of the beautiful game? Thankfully we are spared some of the hysteria re the "great" fans of Wales and Northern Ireland - I know Colin Murray is a top bloke and supporter of our club but his build up to the NI game against Switzerland in Belfast on 5 Live was embarrassing.

What do the likes of Switzerland, Sweden and RoI bring to the table in terms of the beautiful game? It depends what your concept of "bringing to the table" is. To me, one of the best things about the World Cup is seeing unfancied teams do surprisingly well. Since you mention Sweden, I remember them playing some lovely stuff in 1994 and reaching the semis with Brolin and Dahlin up front. It will seem strange Italy not being there, but they have often disappointed in World Cups - in fact they went out in the group stage of the last two. Even when they do well, they often tend to sit on leads and play tedious football. It's only 2006 when I can remember really enjoying their contribution. Agree that Holland's absence is a shame. Sadly I think they may be reaching the end of an era and might become a pretty ordinary side. It's easy to forget what a small country they are, it's just that they've had a magnificent football heritage and philosophy over the last 40-50 years.

Ireland up against it now. It's a bad idea to play for a 0-0 in the away leg when the away goals rule applies, I think.

So, two 0-0 draws in 4 days for England. I simply can’t be bothered anymore watching that boring bunch of over-paid prima donna’s. No wonder I went to bed at half-time to listen to the Chester commentary instead. They will get my support next year, but they do not excite me at all 😲.

I get what you're saying generally but come on, appreciate the circumstances.

As a Welsh Chester fan it worries me that there are so many poor teams going to Russia that we may be subjected to mass media hysteria longer than the first week😎

Eriksen bossed it and completed his hatrick in style. The Danes were a class above tonight. Seemed like once Denmark got the away goal, Ireland's game plan had gone and it all fell apart from there. They didn't really deserve to qualify in truth - they were probably in the weakest qualifying group and still didn't play very well. I'd be interested to see how often in a two-legged away goals rule tie the team that draws 0-0 away ends up losing the tie at home. It seems to be Mourinho's undoing in the Champions League every year. You'd almost rather lose 2-1 away than draw 0-0 I think. Then again it's probably a bit daft to look at the 0-0 when tonight's game was 5-1!

As a Welsh Chester fan it worries me that there are so many poor teams going to Russia that we may be subjected to mass media hysteria longer than the first week😎 Wouldn't lose any sleep. England will be home before the postcards I don't expect much from England, but looking at who they could get I think it's unlikely they'll go out in the group stage. I think we want to avoid the groups with Brazil and Argentina, not just because they're difficult games, but because it leaves us open to getting a decent European team like Iceland, Sweden or Denmark from Pot 3. If we draw a European seed, that would already be two European teams in one group, so the other two teams would be from elsewhere. Presuming Peru beat New Zealand, I think the worst possible group for England would be Brazil, Iceland and Nigeria, but that's still one you'd expect England to get out of if they can overcome the Iceland curse. Best possible would be something like Poland, Iran and Panama. Easy to forget that as bad as England were in the last Euros, we did get out of the group as we usually do. I think if you look at England's World Cup history, the country most comparable to us is probably Mexico. They pretty much always go out in the Second Round, which is usually about what England do as well. Nobody ever seriously talks about Mexico winning the World Cup, so maybe we need to go into these tournaments with expectations in line with what we usually achieve. Away from home soil, England have a history of doing very little of note in international competitions.

I always enjoy the international tournaments, it’s a footballing Fox in between seasons. Brazil 2014, for me, will go down as the greatest World Cup I’ve seen, so Russia has a lot of living up to do. I can’t say that I’m looking forward to next years tournament though. A tournament that shouldn’t be hosted in Russia. Amazing what plenty of brown envelopes can do though. No doubt there will be incidents of violence akin to what we saw in France last year. We don’t want to see a repeat of that. Then we come to England. I’ve no interest in our national team. Gareth Southgate’s appointment was the final nail in the coffin for me and I’ve not had to endure any England game since his appointment as caretaker coach (then of course, they yes man got the gig full time) and I don’t plan on being our biggest fan in Russia. The stay in Russia will be short lived. Once the group stages are complete, so will be England’s adventure. Can I ask though, what does everyone think of Wales’ chances?! Probably better than Englands

Great punditry from Kevin Kilbane before the game last night. Didn't think Denmark had anything to trouble Ireland and was predicting the defence would have no trouble keeping Eriksen quiet. Doh!

England will be home before the postcards I don't know, hats off to Southgate he is giving the kids a go and you have a good few more coming through. I wish we had as many at our disposal. Probably the most basic footballer in the world has this week equalled Gary Speed's outfield record for Wales as we have no-one to replace him.

One of the least frustrating Australian matches for a while, Honduras didn't offer anything and a Jedinak hatrick see's us through!!
Maynor Figueroa suggested the ref had taken a bribe to send Australia through which is laughable

I heard they were also accusing Australia of spying on their training sessions. I see Peru beat New Zealand overnight to become the final team to qualify. Never seen them at a World Cup before as their last one was 1982.
