Chester have signed Jorome Slew, 19 from Goole. Highly rated coming through the Sheffield United's youth system, recently had a trial at Barnsley. He's a striker.

I posted a few weeks ago that the squad would be unrecognisable by the end of the January window. Looks like it's coming to pass more quickly than I thought. Even more convinced now that MB knows exactly what he wants and is prepared/not afraid to go out and get it!
Again, Slew is a young lad, let's not load him with expectation and slaughter him if he does not produce from day 1 as some on here seem all too keen to do. He's another piece in MB's LONG TERM jigsaw.

I’ve heard that he has signed on a long-term contract but does anyone know how long he has signed for?

Probably a replacement for Nyal Bell with his loan due up end of next Month i cannot see it being extended unless he puts a fair few away between now and January
Welcome to Chester Jorome

I like his name. He sounds like a Dickens character or a 19th Century detective!
Good to see us signing young players from the lower leagues anyway, and they're coming from all over the country which suggests we're developing a bit of a scouting network.

Only played two games for Goole and scored in one of them. Previously played for Mousehole down in Cornwall where he was top goalscorer.

Bell is easily our best forward but needs to be given more game time. Totally agree with you Really? What makes you think that? Not having a go, I'm wondering what you have seen that I haven't. He's scored one, and done very little else. If he is better than the rest, why isn't he playing?

I don’t know who he slew, but hopefully plenty of opposition defences to come! Welcome to the Deva Jorome.

Only my opinion, but signings like this lead me to think that Marcus Bignot has no faith in our youth set up??
Stop press . . . two on the bench tonight. Needs must!

I've seen nothing in Bell that suggests he's good enough for this level. He's had plenty of opportunity to stake a claim and I just don't see goals in him. Holds the ball up OK but that's about it - not great in the air, no pace and seems to lack the striker's instinct. He took the extra touch last night because he didn't fancy knocking the ball in with his left foot and allowed the defender to recover. Think White is a better prospect.

The problem with our youth players is they only play junior football they need to be playing against men instead of turning over teams in the youth league every week, they are not ready to step in because they don’t play any real competitive games. I would like to see the older lads step into a senior league at a lower level as Chester youth playing men every week, I think this would make them better equipped to step up.

He made a cameo appearance against Orient, didn't do much, but didn't get much of a bite at the cherry. Got a ball at feet on the edge of the area and his first touch in trying to break into the box was so heavy that it went out for a goal kick. Looks to have some skill, did a trick on the edge of the box later that almost paid off, looked short and a bit of a portly natural shape, low centre of gravity. Reminds me a bit of Shaquille MacDonald who appeared for a few minutes for us at Salisbury. Fear he is too lightweight, but early doors so give him a chance.

Bell is like a taller version of Kane Richards, but not quite as good.
Jorome Slew was with Goole FC and that unfortunately is his level.

Slew hasn't got a football brain, he doesn't see the opportunities when they open nor make the dart into the box at the right time. He doesn't read how an attack can break at all. Hopefully he is young enough to develop that part of his game. He can keep the ball close to his feet but he needs to turn his back to the challenging player otherwise he is easily knocked off the ball.

Come off it. Today was a poor result but kno need for pathetic comments like this. He may well be raw but he's not had nearly enough time to be judged as to where his "level" is at. If you think you can judge a player on 30 minutes of football, get scouting for Barca.

You make an entirely reasonable point, and if he can develop an understanding with the apparently experienced players around him (good luck with that Jorome !) he could well become an asset. But today he looked indecisive and lightweight, and unfortunately way out of his depth. I'm not sure he is really what we need in the midst of a tough relegation dog fight, but time will tell.

I should've qualified my statement by saying he is the only forward who can score a goal out of nothing as he has proven earlier this season. He had our only chance in the first half today, but second half like the other ten players he surrendered and had to come off when he did, soon after a half arsed attempt to close their keeper down. As for your political comment, of course Corbyn would make a great prime minister and I'm surprised you, as a supporter of a democratic socialist institution as our football club is, would say otherwise.

He was poor, but to rubbish him based on 30 mins is crazy. It wasn't exactly the easiest game for a young lad to come on and make an impression, was it?
