Would there be any support for people to tender resignations and a fan meeting to be held?
If not, why not?

Although the current board are quite clearly inadequate, there is hardly a stampede to replace them. Being on the board seems to have become a poisoned chalice. You arrive with great intentions but either achieve nothing or leave soon after due to 'personal circumstances'.

Says who?
What you are basically saying is without a small group of people there will not be a club. That is just not the case and you could be surprised who would come forward if certain people are gone.

I can only base my opinion on the numbers that have stepped forwards to be elected in recent times. Maybe if this lot were forced out people would step up and re-invent the club. However, the real key is to find out where the cancer really lies within the club as there quite clearly is one.

This current board have totally failed to ensure the club's best intetests are served in my opinion. Our status as relegation certainties this early in to the season reflects their decision making. There does need to be a conversation as to where we go from here because a big step back like this after only 8 seasons wasn't in the script.

We should call for an EGM!

Unfortunately, our fan base will whinge and moan about the current board (rightly so) but when it comes to actually standing for election, getting our hands dirty and actually leading the change, there’ll be a deathly silence.
Everyone has ideas, few have the willingness to actually do it.
I’m absolutely including myself in that, by the way.

I remember this sort of attitude being prevalent at the back end of the Vaughan days and I don't agree with it at all. When required, the fans of this football club have always been more than willing to stand up and be counted - as I'm sure they would be should an EGM and board removal rear its head.

Look it was definitely a case of rancid generals today, but dash it all, there are some good things here at chester. We had a poor 45 minutes and all heck has broken out. The board need to step their game up, and bignot and the team need to dust themselves off, put this one behind them and go again on Tuesday. We were solid second half and that’s the positive we should be taking today. We go again Tuesday and show guiseley just what us cestrians are all about.

We have been nothing short of embarrassing and by the sound of it shambolic for 45 minutes today. So that is the second shambolic embarrassing 45 minutes we’ve served up in the past three league games conceding 8 goals in the process. The Dagenham thing we all had hoped was a one off. Clearly it wasn’t and that is concerning. Something not right I wonder. To say we were solid second half my goodness. If you are 4-0 up at half time you don’t need to be full throttle second half. Tarvin Blue- surely the reason no one comes forward for the board, time and commitment yes but surely it’s the politics within our club with the set few protecting their own interests that is toxic? They are presently slowly killing the club. When will it change? Never is the answer unless they are driven out?

I suspect that “those that can, do - whereas those that can’t, join the Board”. By that I mean all those businessmen, commercial, professional and marketing types, etc are all busy doing that for their or their employers’ businesses. Those with a bit of spare time on their hands treat being on the Board as a hobby when at our level it needs to be done properly/professionally. I recall some Board members alluding to having the right skill set in recent elections but it’s hard to see it materialising. I must confess that once I’ve finished paying off the mortgage and have a bit of spare time after feeding the money pit that are my dependents, I would love to have a crack at being on the Board - but as that will be a good 10 years away, I wonder if that opportunity will be available then?

I think you're right spencerwhelanleftpeg. There is a cancer deep rooted into our board, built on self interest. I have been saying this for quite some time. There can be no other explanation for how things have carried on and the number of chairmen we have gone through who have left for 'personal reasons'. The only chairman we have had in recent times who has been up to it is Ollerenshaw. He clearly had some balls and a vision - unfortunately he mysteriously left and the current board don't wish to engage with his offer of support.

Just had a look at the Candidate manifesto for the AGM in October. One of our re-elected candidates, on "how much time can you devote..." quote I am happy to give at least 10 hours a month, more if necessary, and being based a stone’s throw from the Stadium certainly helps from a time point of view!
Is this the real problem. We are a £1m+ operation with board members trying to juggle a couple of hours per week with running their own business. In an ideal world we could pay our board to devote proper time to the cause but in the meantime should we be looking at Candidate Manifestos a bit more closely instead of blindly re-electing then complaining about what they do or don't do?

OK here is the scenario - We get several good people to join the board they all havery good intent- The first meeting we discuss what can be done - The Secretary says there is no money - meeting ends.

The lack of communication is killing me. Please for Gods sake speak to us beyond the usual requests for money.
Update us on what you are doing in your roles and responsibilities?
The apathy off the pitch is almost as bad as that on it.

You're quite right but the fact is that anyone who stands for election, including those seeking re-election, will 9 times out of 10 be successful due to a shortage of candidates. That said, I do think a crisis meeting is essential so the Board and manager can answer the criticisms raised on here - the problem is how many people would attend. Perhaps Deva Chat needs to get organised and form a united group to approach and question the club, rather than leaving it to individuals.

What would be talked about at such EGM? How we're deep in the shit? How fuck all is working? In the last week I've read some utter shite on here.. Wembley bound one day, no club the next, life as a Chester fan eh.

I can't see how self interest is a problem when people are volunteering and have no financial reward? Clearly we have a lack of quality candidates for the board, this is no one's fault just a reflection of where the club is right now. The problem is that the conference premier and conference north are a lot more competitive these days, we are finding our natural level and its pretty painful.

Here are some facts, sourced from the Chester Chronicle on 30th. June 2016. A lot has happened in only 18 months. Please read them and form your own opinion.
Chairman Simon Olorenshaw says appointment of former Hull City chief executive is vital to club's long-term future.
"I am thrilled to be joining Chester FC at a very exciting time for the club," said Maguire, who lives in Poynton.
"With a new manager, chairman and strong board striving to create a platform for the club’s future progression I believe wholeheartedly that there is an opportunity here to demonstrate how a commercially orientated fan owned club can thrive and succeed.

Would there be any support for people to tender resignations and a fan meeting to be held? If not, why not? Yes...on the basis that you volunteer to replace at least one fellow fan who offers to resign and arrange the meeting as you are so passionate about our predicament? Or are you one of those who have the solution to our plight but don't get off their arse to do anything about it ? Cue the likes of Sychden Blue on another thread who slags off Jeff Banks....disgraceful ! And you wonder why our fellow fans don't put themselves forward to join the Board but then get slagged off....e.g. Richard and Tony Durkin who I have known for many years and put the club first at heart including sponsorship unlike their critics ?

Maybe time for both to try and get on a little better?

As a firm believer in the 'Fan's Ownership Model' especially for clubs in the lower leagues,i have to admit our model can only work if we are all playing on a level playing field,i believe as in Rugby League there should be a salary cap,all clubs cannot spend over a set amount of money, otherwise our model is doomed to failure,we cannot compete against teams who have investment from 'Sugar Daddy's' it's a vicious circle, supporters want to support a successful team, they won't turn up to watch a team which is bottom of the league, why should they?the football is boring,it's not cheap, where do we go from here?,i believe further investment outside of the framework of our model is the only way to go,we can still keep a majority shareholding even 51% 49% will do.

If we give up even 1% of our ownership then the past seven years would've been for nothing IMO.

This must be the only club where a difference of opinion is greeted with abuse, rather than a simple “I disagree, these are my views”. It’s all getting rather silly now.

Yep call a meeting. Only topic on agenda, get rid of this unsustainable '' fans owned''ethos. 800+ CFU members paying £12 each to be' owners''just doesn't add up to the club being anything but a National league North or evostick club. We need investment and we need it now. With it we may be able to get some professional board members instead of the volunteers who try their best to run it now. Being a volunteer in a local cricket league I will never slag of these volunteers without whom the club would cease to exist. Mind u, if I where looking to invest and I read Deva chat, I'd run a mile in record time. Some of u so called :fans'need to support your club rather than slagging them off at every occasion.

Again I ask, where are these investors who dont want any money back?
Fans owned is not perfect but the alternatives mean eventual slow death.

Don't disagree in principle but I think it is wishful thinking to believe there are people around willing to invest money - what is there to invest in? Unless a keen fan wins the lottery we are fcuked.
