Completely agree. 50/50 challenge, one footed and no high studs. And won the ball.
But apart from that, yeah he deserved it...

Personally still think it's reckless. Maybe in 1970 that sort of tackle would have been allowed to play on but in 2018, when you go flying in at that sort of speed you are always likely to be punished. Move on from it though i say, it's only the cup, we need league results.

We should appeal a good tackle as I previously stated on the match thread. Feel sorry for the lad, somehow think he’s a marked man at this level.

Foot on the floor and got the ball well before the man came in. You also have to take into account that the other player was not stopping. In fact if you look closely the Thurrock players foot was high not Roberts

Never a red, in full control and won the ball, it was a very forceful tackle but there is no law against that, as long as your in control.
if we are sending lads off for that we may as well pack up now!
The response by some on Saturday slagging the lad off was embarrassing.
anyway lets move on and he now has two weeks to get fully fit.
CTID.

Very difficult to say one way or the other, so an appeal would be a waste of time.
I watched that 2nd half from the kick off and it felt like a Sunday League game on the Roodee.
Very poor performance. Akintunde looked like a little boy lost.
Did anyone think that Cockney bastard was an irritating tool.

From the view the red looks very harsh. Clearly got the ball and it wasn't 2 footed either.

Never a red in a million years, as stated a strong tackle but never a red card

It's at 35 mins. The Blues Live commentary view was correct then, not even a yellow in my view either, went for the ball, not two footed, and actually got the ball first it would appear (particularly given the direction of it after the tackle). Very harsh sending off and has got to be worth an appeal surely?
My question on this is also for those posters on here who were not at the game, didn't see it, and yet created threads attacking Gary Roberts and the club for signing him. I do question what planet these bile-mongers are on sometimes, because it certainly isn't my blue and white one.

I rerun it several times, but what I saw was a footballer indicating that he'd got the ball. The 'fouled' player did the usual writhing in agony. I wonder if the ref thought he'd make a name for himself by sending off the 'infamous' Gary Roberts. I didn't go but had a text from a mate who was there saying that Gary was class in his brief appearance. I hope he just knuckles down, does his training and goes again. He just could be the difference and could spark some of the other no marks into a performance or two. These 2 home games are massive and a minimum of 4 points must be the target. I also hope that Craig Mahon can be kept fit as he does make a difference when on form.

Excessive force is a red card offence is one argument, but did get the ball. Ten years ago, it's a yellow card at most. I think we need to just forget who he is, and judge the football. I think Woody's comments above are wrong, i don't think he's a marked man at all at this level, but he's certainly a marked man by a fair few fans. I have the opinion that we don't have to like the players as people, for them to be liked as footballers, and vice versa. If he doesn't perform on the pitch, i'll understand the critics, but i think we should reserve judgement until he plays in the league and go from there. A classic example is Andy Cook, most of us can't stand the bloke and he loves to wind up any opposing fans, but if he played for us and netted 20 a season would any of us hold a grudge, probably not. Roberts has to let his football do the talking when he gets given the opportunity in a few weeks.

Needs to stay on his feet and not give the ref a decision to make. The ref will argue excessive force. Zero chance of being overturned.

Having watched it numerous times between training for my fight etc.
I am of the opinion it was 100% a red card.

Looked harsh as he got the ball, but flying in like that gives the ref a chance to pull the red out. That's the way the game is these days.

From having watched that a few times, it doesn't look like a red card. Not sure it even looked a yellow either.
I just wonder if you saw it from behind the player being tackled whether it looked a lot worse. Sometimes seeing a tackle from behind, when a player has appeared to leave the ground, it looks a bad one. When seeing it from the side doesn't.
The players seemed to think it was a bad one though. Their players reacted straightaway, and ours then reacted too.
On balance. Very harsh.

As I said in my post above, that's the way the game is these days. Will never forget the most ridiculous straight red for the cleanest tackle I've ever seen - Mark Quayle away at Donny in the first leg of the 02/03 Conference playoffs.
