Excellent stirring open letter from Legard to the Chronicle. He's also said that more players are heading out the door due to the finances, where is he getting his "Inside" information from? Hsss, snakes on the inside of the walls. Do think something has to be done though, if we sack MB we'd need someone to come in for free until the end of the season and their reward is a two year deal for keeping us up? Only way i imagine someone would take the job. Bit of a nightmare for the club, like Jack said it's clear he wanted Barrow all along so i find it difficult to judge what he says regarding management, but noticeable how often he mentions having the right people around the club. Without Shaw and RHJ, for me our two best players, i think we're going to struggle surviving in the NL.

It's all about consolidation, I think the people in charge at the moment have Jumped to soon, thrown money and banked on a promotion push, it hasn't worked out and thrown more money to try and stay up. Complete lack of responsibility and very naive. As a fan owned Club I was Just happy to have football back and competing, if that was in the North or where ever so be it but I think this has been quickly forgot about.

Absolutely, and i don't think it's possible to pinpoint an individual responsible for all the the mistakes we've made on and off the field this season. I think both managers we've had hold a portion of blame, although Jmc did sign the team that's failing us on the field. I think Maguire has to hold accountability, as it would appear financial mistakes are paramount to our off field struggles. If they club needs an accountant that will help out for free, i've offered my services but haven't had so much as a response. I think that may be down to the fact i can only put in a few hours a week but a response would obviously have been appreciated, this was 2016! Anyhow, Thursday will end speculation and i think some big questions will be asked.

It's worrying that plenty have offered help and advice and it's not the first time that I've heard no response or they haven't bothered responding back, I think we should welcome any help the football club can get and really no matter what suit they where we're all supporters of the Club we love so I don't understand this lack of communication from them, we all own the Club!

On crowds of about 2,000 and decent commercial side we should be able to survive at national, not regional, level of non-league. I don't buy all this stuff about running before we could walk. It's all about player recruitment IMO - ours has been poor. As a result crowds have fallen and we are in the mire financially. If we were bumbling along in lower mid table, doing OK at home, we would be fine. We'd be selling more sponsor packages, more pies etc etc. In the past calendar year what have we won- two, maybe three home games? You can't expect people to turn up week in week out to endure that. Sadly we are now having to budget for failure.

Have read Jonathan Legard's open letter several times to try and understand what he thinks should happen. At the lowest level he seems to be advocating a group of skilled determined fans step forward now to help the current incumbents. At the highest level he might be suggesting a complete change of board members, paid employees, football management staff and some players. Unfortunately whilst posing many of the same questions as everyone else, and stating the obvious he isn't brave/wise enough to specifically say what his preferred solution is. One the one hand he talks about acting before the transfer window ends in order to have a chance to avoid relegation, i.e. commit scarce or non existent resources, on the other hand he talks about having an eye on next season's budget implying financial prudence. If he is prepared to commit to print then would prefer to hear his honest opinions rather than him just stirring the pot more. I have to confess that I don't have a clear vision of what we should do, but on balance, and before hearing the discussion on Thursday, I would currently go for 1. Tell Bignot he has no long term future. 2.Reduce expenditure. 3. Use additional fan expertise to identify key changes in off field activity and if necessary personnel. 4. Have a clear strategy and aim for operation in good time for NLN including the appointment of a new football manager.

Excellent stirring open letter from Legard to the Chronicle. What a load of rubbish. Pick a path? Stay in the league or we get relegated. I think to stay in the league we need £20,000 in this January window. Or we plan for relegation? How is build the bugget going? I have lost heart in the club. What we were trying to build has gone. Every penny we raise goes to the players. Nothing goes to our infrastructure. For me that is backwards. Our infrastructure needs to be first and the players second. Not 1 penny of Sam Hughes money has gone to the club and we need more to stay alive, and I mean alive as a club.

I have a lot of time for Jonathan but agree that the article is very strangely worded. Says everything and nothing and seems very contradictory. I hope some clarity comes out of this Thursday's CFU meeting. My biggest fear is that this clarity that is desperately required will not appear.

Suspect this is a subtle, or maybe not so subtle, move by JL to smoke out what's really going on at Thursday's meeting.
The problem with unsubstantiated rumours are they are just that - unsubstantiated rumours!
Until the true facts and associated issues/problems/solutions are revealed, then speculation will be rife. A small issue or drama can rapidly escalate to a full blown crisis fuelled by rampant Chinese whispers.
That said, the old adage of "no smoke without fire", more often than not, rings true and maybe JL, who has a fair degree of credibility and respect, is genuinely party to some of what's going on in the shadows.
The whole sorry saga, in my humble opinion, just about sums up the chaotic management of our club both on and off the field in the last couple of years.
Things should never have got to this state whereby it needs rapid and painful surgery to take the patient off the critical list.
The importance of Thursday cannot be overstated.

Quote from the Chron
This is a time to acknowledge that there is a strong group of determined, successful, highly motivated, well connected Chester supporters ready and willing to apply their skills and take whatever tough, unpleasant decisions are necessary - as in any business - to give the club the best chance of surviving this season, ideally in the National League, and well beyond
Does he know of or is he part of a group ready to donate money or even stage a boardroom coup as this does not apply to the current board

Not sure why Maguire is getting the blame for financial mismanagement. Laurence Kirby is responsible for the finances.

Bottom line - if you budget for 2,100 fans at every home game and 1,600 turn up you are going to have problems. In the short term can I sugest that we give Tranmere 3 sides of the ground.

Not sure why Maguire is getting the blame for financial mismanagement. Laurence Kirby is responsible for the finances. He is the man responsible for collating and reporting on the accounts. Mark Maguire was responsible for raising the budgetted for commercial income. LK works his nuts off for the club and can hold his head high.

The bigger question is who sanctioned giving the Hughes money to McCarthy when he had nothing to do with bringing him to the club. Apportioned between squad and investing in the youth system he cane from was surely more sensible
That aside from him staying as manager, I just can’t get my head around this board seemingly going all out for promotion this season. A spectacular miscalculation

He is far more than just responsible for collating and reporting on accounts - suggesting otherwise is incredibly ignorant. Whilst you are correct in stating that Mark Maguire is the man responsible for most of the INCOME the football club receives, the Ops Board and in particular Lawrence Kirby as the finance director, are responsible for the EXPENDITURE. LK would have been absolutely integral in the decision to allocate all of the Sam Hughes money to the playing budget - he recommends the budget which he puts together with the manager and the CEO and this is then ratified by the full board. Fed up of hearing people use tropes like 'works his nuts off' or 'is a volunteer' as excuses for what has been an almost complete desertion of responsible management and total and utter financial incompetence.

Always got the impression that Lawrence Kirby kept a very very tight reign on financial expenditure. Probably be in a much worse financial state without him, but I could be wrong and maybe he is incompetent and has an easy come easy go attitude to club finances but I doubt that. Personally think any financial melt down will be purely due to short fall in cash paying fans, as season ticket sales were if anything better than anticipated. Be interesting to hear the latest projections on Thursday and financial plan going forward in the short and medium term.

Legard should quite simply reveal what information he is privy to, or keep quiet. Professing to know things but holding on to this information is highly irritating and unhelpful.

Perhaps he is being clever and making it known he knows, and giving the Board the chance to inform fellow fans?
Then if they don't they can't claim they were unaware that issues were expected to be raised ?

It shouldn't take a journalist to dangle bits of information to get the club to communicate a serious issue.

I think that exchanges like this sum up part of the problem for me. No one is really clear or sure who does what and who is responsible for what. One of the key things to sort for me is clear, defined, and accountable roles to be set out.
