In my stance that I will just not go to any pre season friendlies - they offer you nothing we can win every game and lose your first 5 league games and visa versa - they just do not appeal at all - I know of at least 7 that stand around me during the season with the same stance - I am looking forward to Spennymore more actually not going to any pre season friendlies

I personally wouldn’t go to the early away games against lesser teams but I wouldn’t knock anyone who does.

Each to their own Fred. I’m from a similar stance to your own. Would never knock anybody for attending such games. A fair few people must go to friendliest as they are relatively cheap and they can have a decent chin-wag with fellow supporters and possibly have a sherbert or two. The games as such give no ideas as to what your season is going to be. Quite clearly CFC are going to be industrious, not going to be turned over easily - as you say Fred, Spennymoor will give us a clue. A couple of half decent forwards who can compete in this league and I think we’ll be OK. If the Dynamic Duo’s signings give us commitment and show pride to wear the badge then that will do for us all. COYB

They only offer nothing in terms of results.

It's just nice to watch the senior team play a game of football under no pressure with a relaxed atmosphere.
I enjoyed yesterday more than I enjoyed most games last season.

But what is the alternative, watching Emmerdale Farm?

But what is the alternative, watching Emmerdale Farm? Emmerdale is generally shite, so I can’t see that that would be the worst thing about it? Friendlies are good socially, if nothing else.

But what is the alternative, watching Emmerdale Farm? Emmerdale is not on in the day - I have loads of gardening to do or Golf or dog walking or beach or Holiday's while the weather is good it all depends if you have other hobbies or interests - watching a meaningless friendly just doesn't appeal

i was surprised the club did not offer a 3 match mini type season ticket offer for the bury/morecombe/everton games to try and attract a few more fans to attend(perhaps they did and i missed it) not sure what the admission charge is for each game but you can understand fans not attending 3 games in 7 days if this happens in league/cup games you always see a drop in attendances people dont have unlimited spare cash for admission costs and all the extras that come with attending a game (friendly or league)

I'm similar to you Fred. I used to love going to them when I was younger but now I just can't get motivated unless there are points at stake. I've seen us have loads of great pre seasons and it usually follows with a season of struggle! They are basically training sessions for match sharpness, and for the lads to get to know each other. I was planning on coming to one friendly just to get used to the new faces but to be honest now I've got a young family I'd rather spend the final few weekends before the season doing family stuff and save my passes out for the season, especially as I want to do more away games this season.

Not been to a pre-season game for about 14 years and don't intend to go to another one. I like to watch a game with something at stake and a competitive atmosphere. I just can't be motivated to go to friendly games.
Before anyone criticizes my comments I have had a season ticket for several years and do go to local away games.

I attend pre-season friendlies mainly due to my love of our club as it just wouldn’t feel right for me to miss a game for no reason. Still though, I most certainly see why some supporters don’t bother which I have no problems with.

They lose to AFC Telford in a friendly And lots of them want the manager out (this is before the season starts) some want to spend the £1.2m off the Ward transfer on a new squad. This is money that has not been paid yet. So i agree...if you get stressed watching pre season matches and the 12 substitutions and 'trialists' and actually believe whats happening on the pitch, then maybe it's best to just watch league/cup games and stay mentally healthy.

I went on Saturday and actually enjoyed the game; meeting football friends again; the gorgeous weather and I knew that even if we lost I wasn't going to go home feeling depressed. I enjoyed the match apart from us not having a striker. The managers have said they're working on it and even if we don't sign anyone for the Spennymoor game we'll be all right … I'm not so sure, but what do I know I've only been coming for 59 years.

Very rarely do friendlies, but essential for team formation and bedding in new signings. Liveliest in a good few years was that Kilmarnock game when a big group of Scottish lads turned up very well oiled and gave the Blues Bar lots of patronage! Think I heard they had done Blackpool the night before on the way down.

I have a feeling that Rickets might be a bad choice? Lack of pre season comms and signings compared to our proactive activity makes me doubt the Goats strategy. Hope I'm right !

I can understand why people don't bother with pre season games. However, you can get something out of these games. Just don't get too fussed about the result.
We've a new team and new managers. It's interesting to see the new players and see how the managers set them up. You can usually see what they're working on. I try to go to one away game against a smaller team (Runcorn this time), and one at home against a bigger team. One we have a fair bit of the ball, and the other we defend a lot. Gives you an idea of the strengths and limitations of the players and squad.
Exception was last season when it got worse game by game, until the first team went off gone replaced by the youth team. Those who went pre season last year had it confirmed a month earlier that we were dreadful. Whether that was good or bad is up to you!

Really don't understand why people get on their high horse when it comes to pre-season games. Taking a stance against them seems a bit extreme as well. Either go or don't.

I went down this evening as it was the only opportunity I’ll have as I fly back to Norway on Thursday. Nice to get to see new squad members and give the club £8.
