Once again we are on the road tomorrow afternoon where we travel to Greater Manchester to take on FC United Of Manchester away in a must-win game. Our display against Southport was an improvement on Tuesday where we were much more solid against a side who are on a good run of form. The goals have began to dry up again, although it was finally confirmed yesterday we have signed Akwasi Asante on a permanent deal which is certainly a massive boost for us as we enter the second half of the season.
Hopefully our main man will be fit enough to start tomorrow’s game where we really have to win this match due to our away record being so poor. With the likes of Danny Livesey, Gary Stopforth and Scott Burton all edging closer to returns I wouldn’t be surprised if we went on another 11 match unbeaten run as our fully fit squad is certainly capable of pulling it off again. We have a decent fixture list coming up with us to play FC United tomorrow, Guiseley at home next Saturday then Curzon Ashton at home the following weekend which is just what we need to build momentum again.
FC United Of Manchester have had a very poor season which has been mostly spent in the drop zone. Fans’ favourite Tom Greaves resigned as manager at the end of August following a winless start which prompted FC United to land Neil Reynolds from Bamber Bridge in October. He had a bit of a purple patch during his first few weeks in charge, although FC United are still struggling as they are currently 3rd from bottom. Just like ourselves FC United are fan-owned which is admirable, but they only formed in 2005 in protest against the Glazers at Manchester United, so it’s quite remarkable FC United are still going 14 years on. There could be a couple of former blues up against us tomorrow as both Bradley Barnes and Tom Peers play for FC United. Brad was one of our key players during the promotion years, whilst Tom came few our youth ranks a few years ago and signed for our opponents from Altrincham in November.
No game in this league is easy, but if we are to be up there in April we simply have to win this which I’m sure our managers are aware of. Hopefully a few more tickets will be sold today with yesterday’s excellent news, so come on everybody and get behind the blues tomorrow. Come On City!
Score: FC United Of Manchester 0-2 Chester FC (Asante, Dudley)
Attendance: 2,492 (514 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup:
Shenton
Jackson Howson Livesey Grand
Mahon Stopforth Mooney
Green
Asante Dudley
COYB!
