Since I've been properly supporting Chester (around 1997), I've lost count of the number of seasons we've followed a decent August to December with a poor January to April. It used to happen consistently when Vaughan was chairman, it happened last season, and it sort of happened the season before. It even happened in our first season as a reformed club and almost cost us a league we should've won at a canter. I can only recall the Ian Atkins season (1999/2000) and Mark Wright's first (2001/02) when it's been the opposite, and that was because we started those two seasons in farcical circumstances.
Why does it keep happening, regardless of who the chairman and manager is?
The only upside is that we also have a habit of ending seasons strongly. In the last two seasons, we've won our final three games. We may need to again at this rate!

It's alarming how often it happens. It kind of makes no sense, as we've had many different managers and different groups of players, but we always end up with a post Christmas slump. Its like a general lethargic attitude engulfs the club and we end up undoing all the good work that happened earlier in the season. I expected us to suffer at some stage of this season, as operating with such a small squad would inevitably incur injuries/suspension and with it being a young team confidence would suffer. However, its gone on too long now and it's going to take a freak win like Lincoln away when we don't expect it to lift us out of the malaise.

How many times do people need to be told ? Vaughan wasnt paying the wages > He even told one of our fans " Mark Wright can sign anyone he likes ,doesnt mean i am going to pay them ". In the other cases its because the club isnt run professionally enough on the pitch

It's no good feat at all. For example last season we had a decent first half but we fell away after christmas.

The downturn in form in the second half of the season is hugely frustrating as it feels as though we sleepwalk into a relegation battle. I can recall the following: 1995/6, 1997/8, 2005/6 (this included 15 defeats in 17), 2008/9, 2015/16, and now this season.
Really irritating.

There's certainly a bit of a pattern:
1995-96: Top of the league at start of 1996, failed to even make play-offs.
1997-98: About third or fourth in the league after winning at Lincoln in January, ended up in bottom half.
2005-06: The weirdest season ever. Excellent until December, absolutely abysmal until end of March and then put together a great winning run to stay up.
2006-07: Looking at Christmas like we might make the play-offs, season totally fizzled out after that.
2007-08: In the promotion places in November, ended up hanging on for survival with a game to go.
2008-09: Never a great season but we were some distance ahead of the drop zone at Christmas, only won a couple more games after that and went down.
2015-16: Decent start and in a fairly solid mid-table spot at Christmas, ended up fighting relegation.
2016-17: The same old story...
