Ha, and Hudson-Odoi’s changed the game since I said that! Absolutely has! You'd think he'd be getting more games at Chelsea playing like that. Decent first half overall, poor goal to concede from our point of view but the lads will take a lot of encouragement from how they've been able to respond against a usually tricky side. A 3rd should kill it off.

Not sure this was the game to be handing young players their debuts tonight. Montenegro away is the toughest fixture in England’s group I reckon. Very tough.

They made light work of it in the end, but I still think Montenegro will be runners up in the group behind England. They looked like they had more threat than the Czechs, it’s just that neither side could cope with England attacking. Honestly think this is the best England team in my lifetime, even if they don’t push on from this!

How many injuries did we have last night, yet I looked at the team and still fancied us. Southgate has the balls that club managers don’t, throwing kids into a tricky away match in a hostile atmosphere. A lot of those kids have come through the u21 setup with Southgate so they know his demands, and it seems to create a more cohesive approach rather than so called Golden Generation where we had more genuine world class players but never really gelled. There is some really good players to come back into the squad, which just goes to show the strength in depth. You just wonder how much further along the line these kids would be if only their club managers gave them some more minutes.

I wasn't a fan of Barkley (possibly stifled at Everton), but thought he was immense last night. Absolutely superb.

Too many foreigners earning big bucks for our talent to be given time on the field

As a non English person I have to say I don't think England are far off winning something.
The fact that some of the players are not club regulars could be a help with regards to avoiding injuries / overplaying etc.

What has impressed me the most over these two games was the patience in possession (and for once the ability to retain possession) and then to flick the switch, link 2 or 3 really quick balls and slice through an opponents defence in the blink of an eye.
Just goes to show it’s possible to make a team add up to more than the sum of its parts. Thought Henderson and Barkley were superb and nice to see Sterling converting the chances when wearing the England shirt.

Agree, the patient build up whether we're winning or losing is clearly something Southgate has worked on with them. It's actually almost Spain-like in how we pick out that killer pass from nowhere and before you know it we're in.
