We are back on the road tomorrow as we will make the venture to Shropshire to play AFC Telford United away where we look to keep apace with the top two. This will be another huge game for us as we will be wanting to continue our momentum, as our excellent start has brought a lot of togetherness. Telford have made a stuttering start so hopefully we will exploit that.
On Saturday we slayed the Lions of Guiseley as we beat them 3-1 at home in what was another brilliant performance. They were a really dirty side, but thankfully we got the better of them to record a resounding win. Our first half display was faultless as an Akwasi Asante double took us into the break with us holding a comfortable lead. The second half was a bit more stop-start though as Guiseley made some terrible tackles which stopped the flow of the game. Anthony Dudley capitalised on a comical throw-in to make it 3-0, although the visitors were awarded a consolation towards the end as Aaron Martin headed in.
AFC Telford United have had the most inconsistent start possible as they have won 4, lost 4, and drew 1. During the Summer they lost two of their key players which has impacted them a lot thus far. Amari Morgan-Smith signed for Alfreton Town where he has had a blistering start so far, whilst former blue Daniel Udoh headed to Western Shropshire to join Shrewsbury Town. The league table will look a lot different in 7 months time as the likes of Spennymoor Town, Brackley Town, and Altrincham have had similar starts to Telford, and with the calibre of squads they have, they will all be knocking on that play-off door.
Our away form has been so much better this season as we have only lost 1 match in unfortunate circumstances. We have been very solid as we have only conceded a few goals, which is key as we should be aiming to frustrate the home supporters all of the time. This will be one of our shortest journeys of the season, and there has been a lot of hype for this on social media (rightly so)! It’s so refreshing to be reading of ‘’floating’’ supporters having an interest in us again, and people attending for the first time. There was a hostile atmosphere created on our last visit to Telford after a very frustrating start, but things have changed a lot this season. Let’s get those chants going from the off and make it like a home game. I have a good feeling about this one. #EMBRACETHESH*TNESS!!! Come On City!
Score: AFC Telford United 0-2 Chester FC (Glendon, Asante)
Attendance: 1,876 (851 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup:
Griffiths
Morgan Livesey Grand Taylor
Jackson Burton Glendon
Dudley Asante Hughes
COYB!
