Our second lengthy journey of the week is tomorrow where we will make the trip to Northumberland to take on Blyth Spartans away where three points could see us reach the summit. With York City not in league action due to FA Cup commitments, a victory for us by at least three goals will see us go top of the league for the first time this season. If everything does go to plan, then that will hopefully prove to be the perfect assist for next Saturday’s clash. No game in this division is easy though, and Blyth will relish the chance of playing us so will raise their game.
Last Saturday we drew 2-2 away at King’s Lynn Town in what was an entertaining advert for the National League North. We shown some signs of promise in the first half, although we got off to a dreadful start as an under-pressure Russ Griffiths gifted Adam Marriott an easy goal within two minutes to make it 1-0 to King’s Lynn. After that we did settle as we played some nice stuff, but our downfall was that we gave the hosts too much space on the wings. The second half was a thrilling spectacle as it was end-to-end at times. Simon Grand bundled in a Matty Hughes delivery on the line for us to make it 1-1, which put us right back in it. Not long after things got even better for us as Akwasi Asante got on the end of an inch-perfect Brad Jackson ball to make it 2-1 to us. However, Adam Marriott grabbed his second on the game for King’s Lynn as he smashed past Griffiths to make it 2-2. We held on to come back with a credible point.
Blyth Spartans have had an awful season to date, as they currently sit rock bottom of the division. On top of that, they have already exited the FA Cup as they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat away at Hednesford Town two weeks ago. I went to that game as a neutral, and I have to say that Blyth were bossed around by a side who play one division below them. Despite their awful start though, The Spartans have been resurgent in recent weeks as they have won their last two league matches, so we must be wary of their revival. Our opponents secured their first win of the campaign last month with a 3-1 home win against an inconsistent AFC Telford United side, whilst they followed that up last weekend with a 1-0 away win at an out-of-form Curzon Ashton outfit. Eyebrows were raised during the Summer when former Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, and Blackpool manager Lee Clark was appointed as Blyth’s manager but despite his wealth of experience, he has failed to steady the ship.
A win tomorrow will put us in a fantastic position ahead of the eagerly-awaited top-of-the table clash a week tomorrow. We have failed to win in our last four fixtures so if we are to bounce back then three points against Blyth will certainly give us a fresh confidence boost just in time. The traumatic events at Croft Park last season will unfortunately live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons, but since then we have come on a long way and we have a big point to prove tomorrow. I am looking forward to making another trip up to the North East which isn’t a happy hunting ground. Come On City!
Score: Blyth Spartans 0-3 Chester FC (Asante, Hughes, Jackson)
Attendance: 933 (217 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup: Griffiths K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor Jackson Stopforth Glendon Dudley Asante Hughes
COYB!

They're bottom of the league and part of a group of teams that are on the verge of being cut adrift from the rest.
If we want a real shot at the league title we have to be going there and winning tomorrow. Simple as that really.

If we want a real shot at the league title we have to be going there and winning tomorrow. Simple as that really. They are not as strong as they were last year. Major budget cuts meant they had to recruit from the northern league because of lower wages. I would think we should be far too strong for them really 3-0 to us

This on paper should be a certain 3 points but hey this is our beloved Chester and we all know our record when going into these type of games is not brilliant but we really should be too strong for them 3-1 to the Blues

A three-goal win to put us top would be nice, but I doubt it will be that easy. I'll take a scruffy 1-0 all day long.

Agree with your sentiments lobster; also we are approaching a stage of the season where pitches are often in poor condition. It is because of our ‘bowling green playing surface’ at The Deva that we must take real advantages when playing at home.

Won't be easy despite their position, but a good test of our credentials. No win for us in four, so really need to be looking for a win. No doubt we are good enough, but no silly mistakes early doors please.

Blyth have only lost once in the last 5 games and haven't lost in the league since Sept 14 so wont be as easy as some might think

Blyth have only lost once in the last 5 games and haven't lost in the league since Sept 14 so wont be as easy as some might think Let's just get some perspective on that. Three of those games were against the same team, Curzon (two wins and a draw). The defeat was to Hednesford and the other win was away at Telford. Not bad, but not earth shattering.

I don’t think it will be easy, but a win is an absolute must with the other teams around us not playing.
I’m sure that the lads will also be eager to avenge last seasons result there. 🙏🏻

A win is a minimum, think about it , anything less 2600 against york, 3'200 if we win with 1000 yorkies

After last seasons result, which psychologically can have an affect, 4 games without a win, playing away and also having an awful record in the north east, to predict a 3-0 win is utterly utterly delusional by the poster, doesn't demonstrate a mature view. Typical little kid mentality near enough constantly predicting a win every time there's a game, rather irritating! Blyth 1 defeat in 5 and doing better now too, 1-1.

Hope I am wrong but games like this do have a habit of biting us in the ass. Blyth's form has picked up and I am sure they will be well up for this game. I recon Blyth will win 2-1 but like I say I hope I am wrong, I dread this game more than I do York.

It's not too often that I feel confident before a match but I think the lads have a demon to put to bed here. That result last year and the fact that we do seem to struggle up in the North East will hopefully focus them. As long as we play to the levels we are capable of, we will win this match. Blyth will have no answer.
1-4 Asante (2) Hughes, Jackson 220 travelling blues.
Fingers crossed. Embrace the shitness.

Not sure what the point of a disparaging post was though. I think Rio predicts what he wants rather than a likely scoreline. Let's hope he is right!

As I said earlier, 3 of those games were against Curzon. They started the season well, but have lost their last 6 league games. Add in those 2 Cup games with Blyth and their form is dire. Blyth won both games that they won 1-0. We cant underestimate Blyth, but let's overplay it either. We have drawn 3 of our last 4, 2 in the cup against Alty. They are definitely improving and we seem to have a block playing them.

Cant believe some are bigging up the team propping up the league and making excuses (pitch, hoodoo, psychology...) before a ball is kicked. Put simply, we cant win this match say goodbye to promotion as all the above will apply from now to seasons end. 1-8 Chester, apologies for the positivity.

Oh deary, deary, me - what an embarrassing post! We are playing Blyth for heavens sake, not Brackley! They are bottom of the league for a reason, and I watched them first hand two weeks ago where they were very poor against a team who play a league below. A lot has changed since last season. Back then Dom Smalley and John Pritchard started - now we have Kevin Roberts and Brad Jackson who have improved us massively. Oh well, I’d rather be an optimist than a pessimist but each to their own... What has taken me by surprise is that only three people predicted King’s Lynn (who are third) to win last week, yet double that amount are predicting Blyth (who are bottom) to win today.
