Government can't afford to buy Openreach and competitors out of the market. They certainly can afford to buy Openreach and there is no plan to "buy competitors out of the market". They will be free to provide their own broadband services should people still wish to pay for them from a private company.

You wouldn't be allowed to give broadband away FOC whilst other companies have to charge for it.
It's a nice idea don't get me wrong, but it is not workable in my opinion.

Other companies don't "have" to charge for it, they choose to. As long as the government continues to allow private companies the freedom to use its broadband network to sell its goods, EU competition law is no hinderance.
