It's the afternoon before a big game, and where on earth is Rio with the match thread?! Anyway, I've done his job for him today, so all York based discussion can flow from here. Cheers.

Massive game this, almost season defining. Win and we'll be still pushing for 3rd, lose and we could be in 5th place by 5pm tomorrow with Brackley, Boston and Alty also having a game in hand. Of the top 7 we also have the worst recent form (last 6 matches). Must win for me

Just been having a look at our final six fixtures and not the worst run in: Kettering (h), Farsley (a), Hereford (a), Kiddy (h), Gloucester (a) and Spennymoor (h). If we're in the top 5 or 6 going in to that run we should fancy our chances.

Can see this being a very tight game with not much in it - just like it was in October. We will have to come up with a strategy to get the balls past Steve McNulty, and I really hope that our managers and players have learnt a lot from last time. Far too many times in that game we pumped it up for him to easily head away, so this time we must man-mark him and play the ball on the ground to make him work, because in that clash he barely broke a sweat. It’s not rocket science. This is a big game anyway, because we desperately need to put points on the board as we have three teams immediately behind us who are at our heels. We missed a huge opportunity on Tuesday night, so we must perform a lot better tomorrow to get a result.
Our last match was on Tuesday night as we lost 2-0 away at Gateshead in what was a really disappointing result. The first half was very proposing by us, particularly in the opening 15 minutes when we were on top. However, our display in the second period was really frustrating because we dropped far too deep and barely mustered a single chance. 20 minutes into the half Jordan Preston made it 1-0 to Gateshead by curling into the bottom corner on the edge of the area. 10 minutes later our defeat was confirmed by debutant Ruairi Keating, as he powered in a header to make it 2-0 to Gateshead. We improved slightly in the final few moments of the game, but it was nowhere near enough.
York City have unsurprisingly spent the whole season in the top two, as a strong budget resulted in them signing impressive players such as Steve McNulty, Andy Bond, and Elliott Durrell. However, that hasn’t been enough as The Minstermen sit behind King’s Lynn Town who seem to be running away with the league title. Tomorrow’s opponents started off the campaign on fire as they were the pacesetters up until November, as they recorded their first defeat of the season at lowly Curzon Ashton. York have struggled to rediscover their consistency from the opening months, as since that Curzon game they have lost three times which has dampened their title hopes. It will still be a very difficult game for us tomorrow though, especially with us being up against two former blues. Firstly, centre midfielder Andy Bond signed for City in the Summer having had a spell here back in 2014. He has been a regular fixture for York, whilst the other former player is right winger Elliott Durrell who joined our opponents in September. Elliott was here between 2016-17 where he was foolishly released by Jon McCarthy, and enjoyed a successful spell at Macclesfield Town after that. He hasn’t featured too many times for York, but he did bag a goal off the bench in their win over AFC Telford United a couple of weeks ago.
It is important that we take advantage of York’s recent stutter, especially with them losing at home to fellow play-off rivals Guiseley and Darlington. I can’t see us catching them, but what is more vital is that we break away from the likes of Boston United and Brackley Town to strengthen our chances of finishing in the top three. As expected we will be taking a large following tomorrow, so hopefully our lads won’t let us down. I predict both teams to cancel each other out for most of the game, with us nicking it very late on. Up The Seals!
Score: York City 0-1 Chester FC (Dudley)
Attendance: 3,772 (637 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup: Griffiths K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor Jackson Glendon G.Roberts Johnston Dudley Asante
COYB!

Showed them far too much respect in the home game. On the back of the positive news we e had this week let’s just go there and have a go at them.

I don't think we've lost 2 in a row (correct if wrong) this season, but this may be the time it will happen, especially if we don't improve on Tuesday.

Just been on York's forum and strangely a lot of them are predicting getting beat. Good luck to anyone going today. I think York will be too organised for us, will go 2-1 York

Apart from Burton looks like next seasons possible line up if we can keep them. Burton was unlucky to lose his place when he was playing by far his best football for us. Nice to see him back if he can show us that form we’ve seen in glimpses. Fancy us today, short half hour trip for me, going 3-1 Blues ( Johnson, Jackson and Morgan)
