Am a bit worried about John Johnston. Reminded me of Jordan chapell today - lost the ball all the time, had loads of chances to impress, ran into dead ends, gave us no width and welched on loads of tackles. Chappell looks a better player. Midfield was shocking today.

Have we signed a dud in Johnston? I've seen him v Darlington and Gateshead and wasn't impressed. My mate said he was crap today.

Confidence seems rocky at the moment. Just needed to win that, and a messy, unconvincing win was pretty much what I expected.

Feels that way to me. Have seen all his games so far and no better than today in any of them. We’d be better putting Matty Waters in as left back and Joel Taylor as left wing (it’s not like Joel ever does his defensive duties anyway).

Bit of a slog for players and fans alike Conditions were poor but I still think we had enough quality on the pitch to win comfortably but, hey, this is Chester and it's rarely that easy. Eminently forgettable but will take 3 points
We need to be much better vs KL and Brackley

Lot of pressure on him, looks like he’s trying too hard. Will come right for him. People getting on his back won’t help his confidence.

Awful game, below average performance and fucking freezing second half, but 3 points. Blyth are terrible. So so bad.
So glad when 4.50 came.

That was a very laboured and scrappy win. Thought the midfield was poor and neither Jackson or Johnson impressed. Matty Hughes is not the player he was and seems to have loat a yard, in pace. Think we miss Waring, because he can actually hold the ball up. Without him or someone similar it keeps coming back at us. Asente for all his goals is no targetman. James Jones MOM for me.

Thought exactly the same and have done on each of the three occasions I've seen him play. Can't beat a man, has no end product and is lightweight. Is it too late to ask for our money back? Another in a long list of players who have come to this football club and been unable to deliver. Compare him to Brad Jackson - it's night and day.

So it's not just me. Johnston bottled it at least three times

It was a frustrating watch. I know the conditions played a part but too many attacks broke down because of poor touches, wayward passing, careless decision making and generally wasteful play. It wasn't just one player either, they were all at it!
We were the better side and anything other than 0 pts for Blyth would have been ill-deserved. That said, who knows how things may have panned out were it not for the red.
Thought they were about right with MOM. Burton did alright too for me. Asante seemed to fade out of the game, Hughes never got in to it and I'm not really sure what Glendon contributed.

Can't really criticise today. Shocking conditions, especially second half.
A win is a win as they say. Three much needed points.
Next . . .

Not writing him off but saying what everyone else can see - JJ doesn't put a challenge in when the ball is in the air and won't go in for a challenge. Swapping him and Jackson over at half time is going start pissing Jackson off, you could see he wasn't happy coming off, he's miles ahead of JJ based on the games we've seen so far. I know he's still settling into the side but what a lot of people won't tolerate is that lack of effort to win the ball back or put a shift in for a challenge.

If it’s any consolation to Moltisonti I swapped messages with a mate at Alty saying I thought they’d done better swapping Mahon for Johnston. Apparently Mahon was great in his first game but had a shocker today.
I’m not writing Johnston off - I REALLY want him to succeed as I was massively excited when we sign him. But someone needs to have a word with him about doing the basics well and consistently. In a way Joel doesn’t help him as from what I see Joel pretty much plays left midfield as he barely does any of his defensive duties. Somehow out of Johnston, Taylor and Waters we need to come up with a combination that gives us a blistering attack but a solid defence on the left side. At the moment we don't have that and thats what York exploited so well last week (amongst other failings). My worry is that the good teams we are about to play this month will have done their homework and do a York on us.

That was a complete load of crap. I know he’s very popular and I hate to say it but what does Matty Hughes currently bring to the team. When did he last score?
Meanwhile, Danny Elliot scores again.

That’s why I want someone to have a word with him and settle him down. I don’t want to wait for 10 games to be able to say I was right, I want him to settle down and by game 6 be able to say “thank god he’s settled in and struck up a good understanding with Taylor and Waters”. 🤞

Blyth had no intention of getting a result today, especially after we went one-up. All they were interested in was injuring our players and they could’ve had two or three sent off.
What a crap game in crap weather - one of those where you just heed to grind out a result and go home. Fortunately we did.
Agree with the majority on Johnston so far - he’s not a patch on Mahon from the three of his four games I’ve seen so far. It’s early days though, as Moltisonti says.

Not a great game but weather conditions made it difficult. Jones MOTM for me, we definitely need to improve and go up a gear in the tough games coming up! Also brilliant effort by everyone raising the money for george waring face mask!

An average team against a poor team in inclement weather at a low level of football in the English 6th tier. To use a current tortological expression. ' It is was it is.' To use another, 3 points is 3 points.

Anyone else think George Wareing should get his face mask with a cool design on it - Darth Maul?
