Hopefully better than the last two "teased" signings.
An experienced keeper or a centre forward hopefully.

Sensible move from the Dynamic Duo for a number of, well accepted, reasons. Griffiths would've been on a hiding to nothing on Saturday, the slightest error or misjudgement likely to be pounced on by the crowd. Remember, with a relatively small crowd, every shouted criticism is likely to be heard by a player and, imagine yourself in that situation, would've destroyed what little confidence the lad has. So, I feel a bit for Griffiths but we had to act. I suspect it might be the beginning of the end for him with us but the needs of CFC outweigh any sentiment.

Agree with you on this but I just hope this doesn’t develop into a witch-hunt like last season, the lad has made a few mistakes which can happen to anyone he hasn’t committed a serious crime.

A good decision to act on Russ Griffiths’ recent poor displays, as any more mistakes would bring him down even more. Louis has only made a few appearances so far in his career, but I’m sure that he will be a decent option for the short term. Welcome to Chester FC Louis 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

I think he was born near Wrexham - spent a bit of time at Rhyl, Cefn Druids, Colwyn Bay et al. Everton must have seen something in him at one stage as Louis spent two seasons in their academy before moving on. Good luck and fingers crossed for the lad.

A watching brief for me. Very limited CV, a few games in the WPL and 4 for Nuneaton (aug 2018) including a sending off on his debut. A positive is that it will give Russ a break which hopefully the Managers will use to find a local club with a GK coach who can help him build some confidence. Having viewed all this seasons highlights earlier this week 8 of our 36 goals conceded came from corners and whilst Russ has been hung out the Defence are equally if not more culpable IMO

Probably could’ve done with a Matt Glennon type experienced head but at the level we are at we have to get what we can. Gray seems somewhat of a rookie looking at his career so far but hopefully just having some competition between the sticks will improve our fortunes a little in that area.

Is that a 23 year old inexperienced keeper being replaced by a 24 year old inexperienced keeper? Now waiting for the inevitable Chuckle Brothers insults because I am underwhelmed. On a positive note, I think it will show that RG was not the problem. Same problem for almost two seasons now, but different keepers, so why am I seeing a young keeper used as a convenient scapegoat?

Surely a simple and obvious weakness that needs to be coached, so why is it still an issue?

You need help.

It's a funny level for 'keepers i think. You've either got kids who are having their first real seasons or the kind of mid-20s never gonna make it crew.
We were lucky to have Danby tbf, i know he had his knockers and i'd agree Glennon was possibly better but when you consider the Judge/Whiteside year, a steady 6/10 keeper was alright you know.

Yea a bit too far, handball outside the area

Danby was a great keeper for us. He was a good keeper for us in League 2, and a very good goalkeeper for us in the Conference North. Like most keepers at these levels, he had his flaws but he was most of the time he was a solid keeper who could pull off some great saves. Loved the club too and stuck with us during some troubled times. Happy to see he prolonged his career in the Welsh pyramid.

It's a real shame we couldn't have got one of those many experienced, EFL pedigree goalkeepers who organise their defence, always come off their line when they need to but never when they don't, catch everything instead of punching it, can kick it long and straight or cleverly play it out from the back if they need to, and are just sat their twiddling their thumbs while waiting for a Conference North playoff hopeful to give them a chance.

Not played many games for anyone, which is a worry, but good luck to the lad.
Sadly the experienced 'old heads' in goal are hard to find at this stage of the season.

I wonder if there was any truth to that Twitter rumour at the start of the season that Bern and Jonno were trying to get Robert Green to come out of retirement and be our first choice keeper? Highly unlikely but interesting nonetheless.

I am sure there are many older goalies out there who have years of experience and would like to keep playing... question is whether we are better off with a young hungry inexperienced one or the older experienced one....time will be the judge. Seems like we needed a quick change though reading fans comments.
