Waters is without any doubt the best crosser of a ball we have and pretty useful with free kicks and corners not to sure about his defensive abilities

No doubt he's got talent but where exactly does he fit into the team. Hopefully next season we will see him step up. He gets away with it because he's come through the youth team

Maybe the managers are thinking like Spurs a seasons back, having 2 sets of full backs. Roberts and Taylor first choice, Morgan and Waters to rotate with them

He asked me where Waters fits in the team. Yes, but let's be realistic, we paid a fee for Johnston. He will be starting. I don't see a starting place for Waters unless he sounds what's rest of the summer in the gym. JJ was rated at Altrincham, so maybe we should give him time to settle in, find a system that suits him. It should be an exciting team with him and Jackson, also taking some of the pressure off Jackson because teams are now doubling up on him. What we need is a high quality midfielder to sit alongside Glendon and win the ball. A destroyer, if you like. If there's any money in the budget that's where it should go. i don't see how Ellison would bring much to the party. It's central midfield where we have a huge issue. Getting found out time and time again. Why the managers thought Burton was the answer today is beyond me, but we don't know what state Stopforth was in after lock down.

Think a change of formation is required myself.
We basically play a 442, that leaves us outnumbered against most teams. Today we dragged Johnston in to help. Previously it's been Ngwatala or Dudley.
442 we need a keeper, centre half, centre and left midfield, and a main goal scorer. I'm assuming we have a bench of the likes of Grand, Morgan, Waters, Waring, Elliot, Worsnop, Marsh-Hughes and Goodwin. If some of these go, we'll need to replace them.
I don't why we need a left winger, if we've an attacking left back. Especially as we have a far better right winger. Two wingers in a side leaves us vulnerable, especially away from home.
We need more physicality in the side. That should be a priority in the midfield replacements. Maybe only Glendon will remain. If he is to play we'll certainly need to bring in a couple of bigger units to break up play. Ellison maybe one?? Especially if he replaces Johnston.
My concern is that as we try to become a better passing team, we lose some of the effort and aggression. Bern and Jonno always say you know what our teams are about. I'm not sure that us still the case. We looked a lot better when the subs came on today, just from their effort and movement. Players like Ngwatala, and to a lesser extent Glendon, are technically better than Hughes and Stopforth, but change the way we play. At home it's less of a problem, as we can out play teams. Away from home we get run over and bullied on smaller rough pitches. We need to find a way to stop that without losing the skilful side.

Just read that in 2016/17 preseason McCarthy had three in on trial, keeping Liam Davies and Lucas Dawson, but rejected Jamie Morgan Doesn’t really mean anything - Morgan obviously spent the following two seasons improving to the point where he’s good enough to play for us now. Plus we’re in the league below.

There is quite a bit to do if we want to challenge for promotion next season. Clearly we need a striker and central defender but the priority must be getting a young, big midfielder to play alongside Glendon. For me, Roberts, Stopforth and Burton can all go.

I'm willing to give him a chance but I've seen nothing from him so far - he's been a total passenger. I'm not a fan of wingers that want to cut inside all the time at this level - it rarely seems to work. Ellison on the other hand is left-footed, has an eye for goal and would bring some much needed physicality.

We need an enforcer in central midfield. A big, horrible shithouse who can break play up, tackle (both fairly and cynically) and move the ball quickly to the attacking players without giving it away. That should be the priority.

That should be the priority. I'd be tempted to have central midfield just do that. Play 4231. Get two solid players to break up play, keep it simple, and give it to the front four or full backs. Ellison(?), Jackson, Dudley and a new main striker.

Similar age to Burton, Stopforth & Gary Roberts but we still need a wise older head in there. Was still playing regularly in the league above last season.

Nathan Pond has been released by Salford, would be great signing at this level, Can play at CB and defensive midfield. But I suspect he may get offers higher up and would be out of our budget range.

I'd keep Livesey over Grand. I would let Waring and Matty Hughes go, and probably the enigma that is Anthony Dudley if a replacement became available. Would love to sign Kevin Ellison for one last hurrah. We need some nastiness in there, and the lad has it in abounds. I would also give Danny Elliot a decent run. We also need two central midfielders. Glendon can play, but we are in dire need of someone who can put a foot in and win the ball back. The amount of ball we conceded in there yesterday was alarming.
I'd keep Matty Waters. Wand of a left peg and a great utility player from the bench who won't cost a lot. Brad Jackson was also very quiet yesterday, but we all know what he has in his locker, same with Johnston. It hasn't happened for him with us yet, but cant fault his effort. He caught and dispossessed Mooney in his own box yesterday. The ref fucked it, but he bust a gut to get back in. You don't see Jackson doing that?
Quite a bit of work for the managers to do, but to get that effort out of them yesterday with 10 men, no keeper to speak of and your 20 goal a season striker gone was tremendous. UTFS.

Not many players I desperately want out, apart from Burton who hasn't done enough over the last two years, but also not too many I would be distraught to lose. I like all three of Dudley, Hughes and Waring, but none are exactly free-scoring, so we need to look at where goals will come from. It could be Elliot, who has promise of a scoring streak within him, but he needs to display some consistency. Definitely need some bite in midfield. Have to hope Johnstone is a Stewart Drummond/Tom Shaw type player who pulls it together in the second season.
Wouldn't mind Gray being in goal for us. If (and I know it's a big if) it weren't for that gaffe yesterday, you'd have said he had a really good game. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and saying mistakes were to be expected yesterday, and unfortunately a mistake from the goalkeeper is always likely to be more costly.

Some tough decisions for the two managers to make but they need to find two new centre backs two central midfielders a left winger and two strikers if they are going to challenge. It should be a buyer's market in the next two months.
One striker who impressed last season was Ndlovu for Brackley. Held the ball up well and did all the hard work. That's the type of striker needed.
