Thought Waring did ok against Alty yesterday - won most of his headers and held up the ball well. You'd want him in the squad as an option for the long/high balls.
Think we need to find a way of getting Morgan into the back 4 (whilst teaching him how not to get sent off - he rose to the bait yesterday and followed through on a tackle but thankfully the ref didn't see it) - a bit of youth, pace and [measured] aggression would be welcome I think.
Think James Jones is heading elsewhere - according to the commentary yesterday - shame as he was good in the centre alongside Livesey/Grand. If one/both of them go, I would like to see him stay.
Matty Waters' cross for goal 2 yesterday was sublime - he's a keeper and we need to start him more often - the competition will hopefully give JJ the kick to start performing as well - something he's not done yet imho
I'd want Brad Jackson on the list - didn't shine yesterday but on the day with all cylinders firing, he's unplayable at this level.
Would also want Joel Taylor on the list - not the best right back - but pushing forward is a real threat - as he showed a couple of times yesterday
We need to beef up central midfield - both in physicality and creativeness - I'd keep one of Roberts & Stopforth as squad players but for me, Burton must go.

Mobility in the middle is definitely an area we need to improve on. But then again, I sometimes thinks its our 4-4-2 that asks our central midfielders to do far too much, making them look immobile - if that makes sense.
If you're Scott Burton yesterday, it's a big ask to shield the back 4 and get around the centre of the pitch when you've got two out and out wingers alongside you. I'd rather us go with a 4-2-3-1 system next year, I'm sure AJ and BM would argue that's exactly what we play with Dudley dropping off, but I think we need that player to be first and foremost part of the midfield and help us get a numerical advantage in there.
I don't want whole-sale changes. Those lads have given everything for us and it doesn't require massive changes. I agree that Burton's race is run and I'd probably argue the same for Stopforth and Roberts. I haven't actually seen many better centre halves than Livesey and Grand so I wouldn't be rushing them out of the door - the only question is whether they feel up to another season.
I'd keep Dudley and try and make him that AMC that we clearly need, but I'd also look for cover in that area - maybe a loanee? Up front, I really like Matty Hughes and George Waring but they don't really score enough. I'd probably only keep one of them and it's more likely to be George due to his aerial threat.
Definite overhaul needed in central midfield, but other than that we're not in bad shape.

Good spot - thanks, slip of the fingers!
Would be a decent left back if he tracked back and actually provided some defensive protection - but compensates with what he offers in attack so I can live with it. I'd like to see him build up a partnership with Matty Waters on the left. JJ drifts into the centre /off to the right and in conjunction with Taylor this opens us right up on the left flank (York exploited it well). Matty stays in position and gives Joel a bit more protection/help defensively.

Based on tweets from the players it looks like Matty Hughes will be back, also Matty Waters and George Waring.

The question is rather "who should be starting?", rather than "who should be staying"?
Happy with most of them staying. However, we do need to strengthen or change first XI, in certain areas.
Most of us agree the centre midfield needs strengthening. More physicality and mobility for me. Maybe a change to 4231 or 4312. With 3 central and narrow.
We've lost Jones. So Grand and Livesey could both stay with a new pacier partner. Could Kev Roberts cover as defensive midfield too?
We need a new experienced keeper. We can't be taking chances with someone who played 12 games for Cefn Druids, and 8 other games in his career. That kind of player should be backup.
We need a goal scoring target man. A sort of Jordan Hulme or Glen Taylor. Waring, Dudley, Elliot and Hughes, along with Marsh-Hughes and Goodwin could all do a job around the main striker. They all give us different options.

Morgan Taylor Glendon Waters (although I don’t know if he’s a full back or winger still) Hughes Dudley Grand K Roberts Jackson Johnston (reluctantly on what I’ve seen so far but we paid for the lad)
I don’t think the solution is to bin 90% of the usual starters and rebuild. We aren’t far from a side capable of challenging in at least the playoff proper.
We need to replace Asante, get a battler or two in the midfield to let Glendon play football. A reliable and experience keeper is a must, someone that fancies a bit of part time having finished in the league would be lovely.

He did one decent turn but wasn’t involved most the match IMO. Proven goalscorer though and he solves the Asante issue! But at what cost, can’t see this one coming off without backing and with the loss of income we should wel expect from reduced capacity crowds.

Tonya said yesterday - “It is depressing to see us having to accept our lowly state and listen to fans accepting it.” if all we do next season is challenge for the playoffs that will mean, in my opinion, at least two years of no progress at all. I certainly am not prepared to accept playoffs as an acceptable target. The only target we should have is automatic promotion. I’m not happy with the word ‘challenge’. Tonya and plenty others need to get used to the fact that we are a ten-year old entity. I don’t mean we shouldn’t be aiming as high as possible, obviously we should, but the idea of “we played Birmingham and Stoke in what’s now League One” and pining after those days in an unfair comparison that sheds a negative light on our club needs to be ditched.

Spot on. Agree with should target winning the league, but have to realise that finishing top 4-6 actually is a good season. All this "we used to be a football league club" attitude is holding us back. You can hear it on the terraces when we let a goal in. It's negative, affects the players and the atmosphere in the ground. Until a lot of people grasp reality this won't change.

More than half the battle is attitude and team spirit. I like the fact our Club are all pulling in the same direction so I hope we can retain the nucleus and push on with a few smart additions. Big George Waring looked decent up too against Alty. Good touch on the ground for such a big lad. If we could find a Carl Dale type poacher to compliment him we’d get a few goals I’m sure.

This club has to be playing national (as in the league above) football in the not too distant future if it's to make any progress, in terms of building the fan base, attracting better youth players and sponsorship. We have a stadium, pitch and infrastructure that's good enough for the national league and at present the fan base is there...but I doubt it will hold up if we are mid table in regional football.

Waring is definitely a better player with the ball at his feet than in the air IMO, two examples below (links start at Waring’s involvement). Watched an interview with Brad Jackson during lockdown and when asked who was the most skilful player at the club he said the dark horse was Waring.

My post was aimed more at the notion that finishing sixth in NLN would be a good season. Imo play offs is bare minimum but I'm under no illusions that it's going to be difficult. Sadly, for a variety of reasons, we squandered the opportunity to become an established national league club. It set us back years. I just hope fans won't accept mediocrity as the norm

Much more a problem for me than our ex-football league status, is that in 2013 we won this league - National League North - and at a canter ... but have struggled ever since.

I think people forget that in doing that, we foolishly wiped out the best part of a £100K war chest that would have served us better in the National League. Still a hell of an achievement from Neil Young and the team, but it seems to me that the current board are trying to do things a little wiser, and there are more rival clubs that aren't. The landscape of 6th tier football has changed very quickly.

I think squad wise we weren't too far away from being title challengers this season. The main problem was the inconsistency away from home, and that is something the managers will have to address. We can sign better players but until we tactically shape up better away from home I can see poor results on the road continuing. Many on here have touched upon the 2 wingers away from home leaving us a bit exposed in the middle, and I really think away from home we do need another body in the middle. I'm a fan of 4-4-2 but in this day in age where teams can easily do their homework on the opposition then I think we need a bit more flexibility in the systems we play.

I feel we try to play too much football away from home on small bumpy pitches. Pitches like Telford and Fylde it's ok. At places like Leamington and Bradford PA it causes problems. Need to learn how to win ugly at places like that.
