The dire effects of Covid 19 are beginning to dawn on football administrators. The Premier League are worried about losing £1 billion whilst FA Chairman Greg Clarke thinks there is a grave danger of whole Leagues being lost as so many clubs will go to the wall. I think that once lockdown ends in its current form it is highly unlikely that mass gatherings will be allowed to take place for some time after that. Season 20-21 will be in serious doubt of taking place. It could carry on with all games being televised. Burnley chairman said they would be worse off by £45m from tv money if remaining games weren't played. Admittedly the atmosphere would be non existent. Without crowds, the games could be staggered to kick off every 3 hours, to suit tv. 12:00, 14:30, 17:00 and 20:00 on Saturday and Sundays., with a couple on Friday evening. Midweek games could be played Tuesday-Thursday with 18:00 and 20:30 kick offs. It would likely signal the end of professional leagues below the Championship. |

Leagues might have to be smaller regionalised and part time outside the top flight. Could even have an impact as far ahead as the world cup. |

We have to protect the chairman’s investment, review the whole business in terms of next season and get it to a level where it is sustainable"
Hartlepool United have so far chosen not to furlough their non playing staff and instead have issued redundancy notices. Match day and ground staff were made redundant a couple of weeks ago along with two first team staff members including the first teams sports therapist. Over the last two weeks six other full time staff members have also received redundancy notices. Although club mascot H'Angus the Monkey has been deemed to be surplus to requirements, Mark Maguire remains in place.

There is going to be serious implications on football from the teams who play on sunday mornings right up to the Premier league. Lots of clubs are just going to fold, loads of league will fold due to lack of money. The whole dynamic of football outside of the top two tiers is going to change. For instance; Sugar Daddies are going to be hit hard by this, no income into the club will mean putting their hand into their pockets deeper than normal. Couple that with the business interests outside of their 'play thing' getting a hammering AND nobody wanting to buy a sinking ship it looks grim for 'bankrolled clubs' Income. Bills will need to be either paid and without any income debts will mount, clubs in future will have to be realistic about wages (as will players). Club investors, sponsors and benefactors will be hit hard by this and giving money to football/sports clubs is going to be well down the list of priorities. I would imagine a mass exodus of players away from football because of the cash restrictions faced by clubs trying to re build from scratch...Part time is going to be the norm outside the top leagues. With this you can also expect as mass exodus of fans due to the poorer quality of fare on offer Leagues. As CB has stated there will be a big change in the format of the leagues from EFL right down to grass roots football. I can see us having new leagues (just for example) EFL Leagues 2 North/South. National League N/S (replacing the National league) The level we are at will be regionalised possibly into 3 leagues (North/South/Midlands). The leagues below this would face even bigger restructuring into 4 or even 5 leagues per level. In short Football is F@@k~d!! |

I think that the other thing that will come into play with all sports will be that there are a proportion of folk who will find that there is life beyond their team, will look at what it costs and think maybe I don't need it. There will also regretably be those who through lack of finance will have to make econmies.
