I'm surprised we were able to put a side out with the plague raging about that time The last recorded plague deaths in Chester were in 1648, and although losing 35% of the population, plus the fact that authorities frowned upon the playing of football (along with excess drinking, bull and bear baiting, and Welsh weddings) this was no excuse for not getting a team out 21 years later But with the Great Plague in London 1667/68. Surely there must still have been social distancing in place, no football crowds, no unnecessary travel and no contact between people who are not from the same household. One half hour exercise per day so I don't think a possy of stagecoaches coming over the Pennines with dozens of Dalmatians running alongside counts as 'exercise' so I think we would have got away with it

First ever game was early 60`s on a Boxing day over 8,000 attendance. Dad and I were on the Kop I was lifted up onto one of the floodlights just below the barbed wire so I could see.Might have been against Southport but not sure, and no idea of the result.
