Just the latest in a number of redundancies at the club. The owner is no longer willing/able to pump £1 million a year into the club. The 'change of direction' includes a share offer to supporters, both individual and groups plus local businesses for a minority stake in the club. They have also floated the idea of the 'recruitment of volunteers which will assist in keeping the costs of running the club to a minimum but almost as important will create a feeling of joint purpose and togetherness as we work together to protect the club for the long term.'

Best news I've heard all year one of the men responsible for systematically trying to destroy our club no sympathy I don't believe he tried to destroy our club. He was just hopeless at his job. Very true, but then again he was very bad in his two previous football jobs. Well known to be a useless tool, nonetheless the Chairman at the time chose to ignore the sensible advice to steer well clear when appointing him. I remain of the opinion that the club went into decline when Grenville resigned as Chairman, and what followed has been a tragedy.

The Maguire fiasco shows the importance of having proper, measurable targets for employees. It's dealt with in the five year plan framework so I hope clear goals will be put in place for the commercial side.

In my dealings with Maguire I found him to lack common sense. He failed to keep any of his promises.

Grenville oversaw the unwise bringing back of Tony Allen to an unadvertised position, and didn't handle questions about it too well. He seemed to want to take everything on himself rather than delegate. Grenville has a big heart and is a great ambassador for the club, but not sure he was the answer as club chairman.

Only wants to give the supporters a minority shareholding, yet is asking for volunteers? So grateful for what we have got.

Thanks for pointing that out, as it certainly didn’t help. I’m not in any way saying Grenville was the answer, but more that what followed lacked the family Phoenix goodwill that had existed up to that point. I felt we moved to adopt too grandiose an attitude prematurely, perhaps feeling we were better than the position we were in at the time, throwing caution, and funds, to the wind excessively.

Tony Allan was interviewed but did not get the job but those who interviewed him stated he came a close second, when that succesful person left the club the operation board thought it best to appoint Tony rather than go through the expenditure etc of advertising and interviewing again.

Tony Allan was interviewed but did not get the job but those who interviewed him stated he came a close second, when that succesful person left the club the operation board thought it best to appoint Tony rather than go through the expenditure etc of advertising and interviewing again. Just out of interest, what was the amount of time the successful person was in the role? Sorry i have been a long time responding; My reply its long but hopefully worth it. The Main Board decided that it needed help in getting the clubs business done so the operation Board was born, they in turn thought that the club needed someone at the ground to answer the day to day requirements so they advertised the job. Four people were interviewed two were thought to be good enough but one was a Chester supporter so they dedcided that tipped the balance ( A little later they did the same with the groundsman when a Chester supporter was chosen ). When this person left some months later the Operation Board again contacted Tony spoke / interviewed him again to see if he was still interested and avaiilable which he was. So he was appointed because he was quickly available and brought a wealth of experience as a club Secretary with him. So Tony was interviewed at least once and probably twicw. I hope this answers your post. My decision to leave was taken with heavy heart but I was unable to put it the enormous time being the Chairman requires, at the time I worked with the Probation Service which the goverment sold off to a the private sector and they changes d so much within my work that it was very difficult to complete my job never mind being Chairman. Decision at the club were made without my input as they were unable to get me during the day and by the time I was clear of my employment the questions had gone, so I thought it best to stand down. You are quite right that I have a big heart for the club but when I reluctantly stepped down the team were half way up the National league and we had £100,000 in the bank but due to my employment i was unable to influence some decisions. i hope this explains a little more enough , as i dont know who you are you may want to speak further a home game { If and when we get back ) and I promise to buy you a pint. i was lucky that i lasted so long but that was due to the other hard working Directors at the time. i was just remembering the first Board meeting I attended I went in, Chairman resigned, nobody wanted it so somehow I found myself as Chairman.Come on you Blues.
