Raised over 130k for there budget unreal effort
Whilst we’ve done absolutely nothing other then release a penny bucket fundraiser to try make 1k...
Why isn’t the club acting now? Especially now Murphy has gone and we don’t have his investments for transfers etc ?
We need to act before it’s too late

I don’t follow darlo on twitter but still seen updates daily on twitter , we could learn a few things from how they have done this . Clear regular updates not every few weeks but every few hours ( haven’t we got a full time media officer aswel, surely if we do something like this a few retweets daily is not too much work ?) , they also did gifts for certain amounts of donation like 2 tickets for a game in the lounge for £50 etc

Need to be posting regularly instead we’re doing nothing and it’s just concerning at this point Right now is especially the time we need to be raising money

It is a magnificent effort from the Darlo fans and it does seem that we as fans are not Quite as keen when it comes to fundraising , we have just starting the claim your turf which for £25 gets your name in the match programme every week and also in the clubhouse on the wall but for the last couple of years it’s probably only sold about 25% at the most that have been taken up. We can’t go cap in hand to other fans for this it’s down to us and no one else.

I notice the word “pledged” rather than donated.

Which is why investment at the club is seriously needed We need to look at ourselves as owners of Chester not just fans there is a divide between the fans at the moment because of the attempted takeover but we need to come back together, we need to ask ourselves what we can do for the club instead of waiting for the club to come to us. Yes, we've missed the boat after the failed take over. Said at the time that we needed to strike quickly while there was renewed interest in the club and lots more visits to this site. I'm frankly baffled that some official fund raising campaign wasn't rushed out, even accepting that the club is effectively mothballed with some people furloughed. Unfortunately memories are short and the default apathy quickly sets in. The OWS hasn't been updated since mid May, so all we've had is a few tweets (a medium many fans don't use). Not helped that that Chronicle reporter is currently covering Huddersfield. It does worry me that in this long period with no football, and little apparently coming out of the club that some fans will just get out of the habit of supporting.

Well done Dario fans. This appears to be an annual effort which is well supported. We as a group of “owners” and other fans seem unable to collectively, comprehensively and sustainably financially support our football activity. Yes many individuals dig deep time and again to keep the CFU/CFC afloat, but the greater collective of fans don’t seem arsed. You sometimes get the feeling that the majority would just shrug their shoulders if the club were to declare itself unsustainable. Wish I understood the difference in engagement between Dario fans and ours. It seems to be about unity of purpose. We only seem to be able to unify in times of crisis or controversy, and then we still have polarised opinion. Aaaaah!!

I think the fact that Darlo don't that many premiershite teams around them is a big factor as many would-be Chester fans have plenty to choose from around here and probably aren't that interested if the club survives or not whereas the loss of a club in the North East would be a bigger loss than the loss of a club in the North West

Being a smaller club in the north west doesn't help, but I just think Darlo have a higher proportion of their fanbase that are prepared to dig deeper in their pockets to support their club. We seem to have a smaller proportion of hardcore, dedicated pro/fanownership supporters who are prepared to pay double, or in some cases treble the cost of their matchday entrance fee per month,to help our club out. A good proportion of our fanbase just want to turn up on matchday, pay their entrance fee and watch the game with no further involvement.

Hi, I joined the fundraising committee about 3 weeks ago and there are definitely plans like Darlington's being worked on. I think it's worth pointing out that Darlington have run this for about five years now, and so have a lot of the detail in place to run it effectively. If we rushed something out, it would be unlikely to be successful. Remember the Steve Burr fundraiser? It hit it's target but cost the club an enormous amount in merchandising costs so was ineffective. We're making sure that we avoid that!

It may help though if the club pushed the CFU, membership and meetings etc, at the home matches. I don't recall Cleggy ever mentioning them. It's almost as if they are irrelevant to the football club. If we don't promote it, how will more people become involved? If we promote the CFU well, people would make the join between the football and the CFU more. You would think a lot would realise, but I reckon a lot more aren't aware, or just don't think about it. We need to make them aware. It's our club, not a secret society.

I wonder if the structuring of the Darlo fan ownership model achieves a different mindset, being a 3 pronged model with a Community membership owning just over 50%, the supporters club 15 % and the balance held by individual fans. Not sure how it works but they seem to get somethings right.

I wonder if the structuring of the Darlo fan ownership model achieves a different mindset, being a 3 pronged model with a Community membership owning just over 50%, the supporters club 15 % and the balance held by individual fans. Not sure how it works but they seem to get somethings right. DFC OWS Feb 2020- Darlington Chief Executive Officer and club chairman, David Johnston has purchased an equity stake in the club. David, who has been the club’s CEO since 2017, will be a minority shareholder alongside the other individual shareholders and the Darlington FC Supporters Group, the majority owner. David has converted his outstanding £10,000 director's loan into equity and in accordance with the special resolution passed at the 2019 AGM has converted another £40,000 loan into equity, taking his total investment to £50,000. DFCSG, the fans ownership group, will continue to be the majority shareholders of Darlington FC with 76.3% of the equity and 78.8% voting rights.
Fan ownership remains at the heart of Darlington FC, whilst David’s investment cements a long-term partnership with the club as we focus on getting the right building blocks in place for future success and growth. The investment, which was proposed in summer 2019, will be used to further increase the working capital of the club. David said: “I'm delighted to become a shareholder in Darlington FC. This investment underlines my commitment to playing a big part in the future of the club. We've seen improvement on the pitch this season and are seeking to match that progress off the field to build a sustainable future at this level and higher. There is lots of work ahead but no lack of ambition.” Chris Stockdale, the DFCSG Chair: said; "As majority owners we welcome David’s investment. The DFCSG Board have built a strong working relationship with David over the past two and a half years and we look forward to that continuing well into the future. When David approached us with this investment offer it was discussed in detail by the DFCSG Board who gave it their unanimous approval after detailed consideration. This investment sits alongside our continuing majority fan ownership and is an excellent partnership. It strengthens the club’s balance sheet, aligns our long-term goals and the club will continue to benefit from David’s leadership and business experience." The investment from David Johnston comes eight years after the fans of Darlington came together to rescue the club from liquidation. Since then finance of over £1 million has been raised by the fan owners for three promotions and a move back to Darlington at a redeveloped Blackwell Meadows. Further aspects of the club have been developed under fan ownership with a Darlington FC Academy launched, a vibrant growing youth section of over 200 children and an independent charity Darlington FC Foundation recently formed.

Anyone who volunteers has my total respect and I'm sure there's plenty going on that I don't know about. I get that these things have to be properly organised, but I still feel there was an opportunity missed after the failed takeover. In the aftermath there was a huge captive audience on here alone, but most have now drifted away again and we are back to the hard core of DevaChatters who by and large will support most initiatives. There's a feeling that the crisis has passed, so we can just bump along again and wait until football re starts. The longer the delay the harder it is to engage, let alone the issue of how you reach out to all those people who may not be CFU members and are not currently using this forum and other Chester FC media because the takeover has gone away.

I just fear that the fundraising is only being supported by a smallish core of fans with a large proportion not getting involved, we need all fans to come together which includes the large number that supported private investment it was not the clubs fault that this fell through Mr Murphy was given every opportunity to honour his commitments to allow the vote to take place.

Wether that be £185 yearly per person or £15.50 per month or more than likely bigger donations off some and less off others but with those numbers ie 700, it shows it can be done at smaller clubs who have a hardcore of a support base.

I don’t follow darlo on twitter but still seen updates daily on twitter , we could learn a few things from how they have done this . Clear regular updates not every few weeks but every few hours ( haven’t we got a full time media officer aswel, surely if we do something like this a few retweets daily is not too much work ?) , they also did gifts for certain amounts of donation like 2 tickets for a game in the lounge for £50 etc Our media team will rt the fundraising twitter account tweets now and again but that’s no use it doesn’t bring the traffic to the tweets as it would if the official account tweeted it themselves. Need to be posting regularly instead we’re doing nothing and it’s just concerning at this point Right now is especially the time we need to be raising money Agree with this! It is the same with the season ticket sales. If people can see the impact / no impact being made then they will want to contribute. Something does need to be set up like Darlo. We have to aim higher! I thought the regular update on here about the retro shirts were good and gave us an insight into how much income was going to come into the club. The club shouldn't be afraid to ask for more money off the fans. I would be willing to pay a little bit more into the football club, whether it be an increase in season ticket prices or some sort of fundraising. People want to see the difference they can make. Regular updates on things like this are key imo.

Think it also shows that the club should engage with Deva Chat, despite what DHW said. All fans, even if a few let themselves down sometimes.

I joined the committee after the failed 'takeover' (along with two others) - in fact Murphy's cynical attempt to buy the club was what motivated me to join - so I can't comment on any perceived missed opportunity as you'll appreciate. Going forward, I think there will be lots of good opportunities to take advantage of to help market any initiatives such as (to take one obvious example) the announcement of the start date of the season, which will be of huge interest to all Chester fans. (To be clear, I'm not saying that this is the only opportunity, or the potential timeline of anything!) We're working hard to do this right. We all want this to be sorted out quickly, but it does take time. If anyone has any expertise or ideas to offer, please DM me or email David Williams at the club. We put out an open call for people to join our committee last week and had one more member, it would be great to have more.

You cannot ask your employee to do any work that:
makes money for your organisation or any organisation linked or associated with your organisation provides services for your organisation or any organisation linked or associated with your organisation.
Your employee can:
take part in training volunteer for another employer or organisation
Not really us to say what people should or shouldn't be doing while furloughed anyway. People all have different priorities and responsibilities right now.
