Thought I’d make this thread (similar to last season’s in/out thread) to keep all of our transfer news in one place.
Goalkeeper Russ Griffiths has officially left us to sign for AFC Telford United today on a one-year contract. It is a shame that things didn’t work out with Russ as he was an improvement on Grant Shenton and had a very good spell around Christmas time, but he made far too many mistakes at the start of the season and after New Year that cost us massively. Hopefully we will now give Theo Roberts a good go as he hasn’t been given a chance so far, although we will certainly need to bring in a ‘keeper with plenty of experience once we are able to make signings too. I wouldn’t be surprised if Russ does well elsewhere - it just happened to be that it didn’t work out here. Good luck for the rest of your career Russ!

Really pleased for Will. Whenever I have watched our Youth team play this season he has always been sharp in front of goal and a menace to opposing defenders. Will’s height will be a big boost for our forward line and I really do hope he gets given plenty of chances to shine. All the best Will 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

Right winger Elton Ngwatala departed Chester FC today to return to his native France. Elton did show some flashes of his potential against King’s Lynn Town and put on an impressive performance against a strong Tranmere Rovers side, but on the whole he was very disappointing as he failed to live up to expectations. He was bound to be released by us anyway and wouldn’t be too much use in the play-offs, so hopefully he will find some form back in his homeland. Elton won’t be a big miss at all, although it is a shame that things didn’t click here as he did have a very good spell at Kidderminster Harriers. I suppose certain players don’t work out well at certain clubs, and this is just one of those examples, so we move on! Good luck for the rest of your career Elton!

He was crap. Shame some of the academy lads weren’t given a proper chance over the likes of him.

'Goodwin first joined the Blues as a nine-year-old in November 2011, as the club established three Junior Age Groups to begin reforming the Youth section that had been closed upon the demise of Chester City FC.' Calum McIntyre - “To have a boy, a local boy, coached by committed volunteers highlights that the Academy pathway works and can continue to succeed. This is a massive – and I mean massive – testament to our Junior coaches and their efforts and I hope they realise how invaluable they are." www.chesterfc.com/2020/06/24/youth-the-will-goodwin-story-is-a-special-one-for-the-blues-academy/

Jon Worsnop returns as goalkeeper coach link welcome back Jon Good move this. I'm sure some will mention some of his own deficiencies as a goalkeeper but there's no doubting he was a good character in the dressing room and we've been crying out for some dedicated goalkeeping coaching for a while. He holds a genuine affinity for the club too.

Would imagine this could spell the end for the young keeper we had Good news on his return He's returned as a coach, not a player. My presumption was that he's probably been brought in to help coach Theo Roberts. Could be completely wrong though.

There we go, I'm wrong then!
Any ideas who we do plan to play in goal then? Griffiths has gone and I'm not sure whether Gray is still here.

Pleased to see Jon return in both capacities as he could still do a job as an emergency ‘keeper if needed - can’t be much worse than Russ Griffiths! I also wouldn’t mind if Louis Gray was to return either because I’d like to see more of him and reckon he would be good enough for the immediate short term. Worsnop often divided opinion in his first spell but I didn’t mind him too much myself. He was excellent in his first campaign, especially against Barnsley when he played on with a broken cheekbone if I remember rightly. His form did dip at the start of the 2016-17 season though with the Forest Green Rovers howler still sticking out, and he never recovered from that as we brought Liam Roberts in. We haven’t had a goalie coach for the vast majority of this season (which could be a reason why Griffiths was very inconsistent), so I’m happy that we have sorted this out by appointing somebody who knows our club well and somebody who will be a positive influence in the dressing room. Welcome back to Chester FC Jon 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

Does anybody know if we are allowed to sign or loan players for the playoffs since we have had at least 3 players leave? No, we can't. They had to be registered with us on March 16, so our own players who were out on loan should (not confirmed) be Ok and those who we had on loan from other clubs

Excellent news re: Wil Goodwin. He has inpressed me everytime I have seen him play. High hopes for the lad, because he doesnt lack physicality. Scored 7 goals in 10 games on loan at Sandbach.

Gutted to hear this as Matty always impressed when handed the chance to shine in our first team - especially at the start of last season. He was brilliant up until his very unfortunate injury at Hereford FC, but sadly he wasn’t given many chances after that as he fell behind Kevin Roberts and Jamie Morgan in the pecking order. Matty deserves to be playing week in week out, so I really do hope that he moves to the right club as he has a bright future ahead of him. Good luck for the rest of your career Matty!

Centre back George Macready departed Chester FC today to sign for Flint Town United on a one-year contract. We didn’t see much of George as he spent the vast majority of the season out on loan and was fourth in our central defensive pecking order. That said though, I wish the lad all the best as he needs to be playing every week and is joining a Flint side who are on the up, as they recently won promotion to the JD Cymru Premier. Good luck for the rest of your career George!

Disappointed with that. The one big question mark over the management has just got a little bigger for me.
When they talk about developing youth they refer to the likes of Taylor and Johnston. Not the same.
