Can’t wait for the Olympics to come around . . . Olympic Break Dancing. What the effing hell are we coming to? I'd get rid of all that horse crap myself, especially the dressage. Really the sports should be ones anybody can play and succeed in, not ones where you need to be a member of the nobility. So your solution to lack of inclusion would be to arbitrarily ban sports that you feel are associated to people perceived as having a certain status?

I'm being a bit of an inverse snob admittedly, but I really don't see how getting a horse to dance while wearing fancy dress is a sport. And there's nothing to stop someone very wealthy playing football, boxing or whatever, whereas there's a lot stopping someone living in poverty in Cameroon getting involved in dressage.

The problem is the olympics has probably as many sports as it can handle in 2 weeks but I agree some of the sports do seem a bit "unsporty" ie dressage, synchronised swimming etc

Saying that a 'wealthy' person could choose to take something else up isn't a particularly convincing argument for removing particular events from the Olympics in my opinion. Events can still be relevant to the games, even if you have an axe to grind with the people you associate with them.

Yes, let’s not say anything nasty about the posh boys, they’re having a tough enough time already without ‘certain posters’ on a Non-League football club’s unofficial internet message board criticising the sports they engage in.

You've always come across as having a bigger axe to grind than anybody fella! Still unable to handle it when you read different views. Merry Christmas Ian!

I didn't mean to start a class debate! Anyway, equestrian isn't doing me any harm if other people enjoy it I suppose. I just wonder if the thing needs a bit of a shakeup, as some events only fit in with a Westernised view of the Olympics. Some countries must look at that event and wonder how on Earth they're meant to get involved in that, and the Olympics is meant to be an amateur, inclusive event. And I don't really understand the argument that you somehow need non-inclusive events in order to be more exclusive!

I got what you meant, and you summarised it in the above post. It’s definitely not very inclusive and not in tune with the Olympic spirit.

I don't think the people in Cameroon care tbh.

Been watching World's Strongest Man over this week. We always seem to pretty well in it, with four of the final ten being Brits. Seems as much a sport as anything else to me. Their dedication to it is incredible.

There’s a superb story developing in Melbourne with a young tennis player from Leeds going well in qualifying for the Australian Open. She suffers from missing fingers and toes. Proving that her disability is no bar to achieving her ambitions.
