Am I alone in thinking it’s a travesty that we have let this previously long-term partnership go? Obviously the stylin’ profilin’ limousine-riding jet-flying kiss-stealing wheelin’ ‘n’ ‘dealin’ son of a gun vulture put pay to this last season with his shameful antics but I would hope the board/commercial arm would have grovelled over the summer.
It’s a real shame given the incredible support Swettenhams have given to the club, both in general sponsorship and in supporting the youth academy setup, that we ended up backing the wrong “mega bucks” horse last year and probably alienated local business sponsors like Swettenhams.
Have we tried to rebuild the burnt bridge? Or is the Covid factor having an impact on Swettenham’s desire to finance a football club during an enforced recession?
Either way, currently it’s definitely our loss.

I think there’s a lot more behind this then what’s been spouted on here something doesn’t add up
Why would they just pull everything they was doing to do witj the club because someone who wasn’t even a club official told them they wouldn’t be needed?
Didn’t even speak to the chairman or any the board about it just took his word and left ?
Wouldn’t mind if Ian came forward and spoke about the situation on here himself if possible because so far it’s just been rumours from his mates on here.

Either way, currently it’s definitely our loss. You're not alone. Maybe we should offer to rename a stand The Swettenham Stand as a symbol of his valued support over the last ten years. Every club needs a benefactor like him. Long term, honest support, local business. A straight apology and acceptance of guilt might help. Andrew Morris does seem a genuine, smart guy. I'd be surprised if there hadn't been contact. Calum obviously got on really well with him, again I'm sure there would have been some contact. Maybe it's a case of bridges burnt. Any contact should have been made really quickly.

I was told recently Ian is currently sponsoring Runcorn Linnets, although I don’t know what affinity he has there apart from Callum McIntyre. As stated already, it’s a real shame he feels he needs to sponsor another club when this club is essentially his

In hindsight, Murphy's actions around this were likely to remove key additional income streams from the club other than his own and then make us far more vulnerable to his 'rescue' bid. Like others have said, I hope we can get them back in the fold.

I’d hope the club have reached out to him at least.

Like others have said, I hope we can get them back in the fold. He also had someone attending board meetings, so would have a good insight into finances, board views, etc.

The board chose SM over IS (as would the majority of our fanbase at the time) and that would leave a nasty wound on any benefactor. Short termism but past history. I bought a season ticket in the Swettenham Chemist stand. That is what is written on the top of it, the sign has never been removed. I agree it would make a nice gesture to reward the families loyalty by keeping that name this season, and with no other stand sponsors in sight one that wouldn't in reality cost the club anything.

Loyalty and trust take a long time to develop and can be broken in an instant. The charlatan Murphy exposed the naivety of the Board at the time. Hopefully a lesson learned!

Totally agree, and just a personal opinion I think Ian Swetenham was a great supporter of the club and was treated very badly over this
