A narrow 2 - 1 win with Chester hanging on at the end. Livesey, Grand et al putting their bodies on the line to secure the win. Anything else just wouldn’t be the Chester way.

We are just 90 minutes away from potentially battling it out with the likes of Ipswich Town, Sunderland, and Hull City which is a huge incentive for our players today. Marine are on a fantastic cup run themselves as they destroyed Nantwich Town in the last round and will be well up for this, but we have to look forward to it as we do have a very good chance of progressing to the 1st Round. It is typical that in these circumstances we go on a good run with no supporters able to attend, but it may well turn out to be a blessing in disguise in terms of finances and maintaining the feel-good factor.
Our last match was on Saturday as we lost 2-1 away against Spennymoor Town where our winning start came to an end. The first half was rather average with a lack of goalmouth action, but only 12 minutes in Danny Livesey got us off to a dream start as he bundled in to make it 1-0 to us. Spennymoor Town were out to get an equaliser though, and Jamie Spencer sent us a stark warning sign by striking against the post. The Moors eventually got back onto level terms before half time, as Glen Taylor struck in a free kick for Spennymoor Town to make it 1-1. It wasn’t really a great half so a stalemate at half time was a fair reflection on it. Meanwhile, our performance was much improved in the second period as we had much more of the possession, but our downfall was our wastefulness in the final third. With minutes to go before full time we were handed a killer blow, as Nathan Buddle bundled in to make it 2-1 to Spennymoor Town. A cruel way to end an otherwise credible showing.
Marine will be making the journey from Merseyside who ply their trade in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One North West where they have had a mixed start to the new season. The Mariners have only competed in four league fixtures thus far where they have won two and lost two, so their current 11th place berth is a fair reflection. Their form in the FA Cup has been much more dangerous though, as they have defeated Barnoldswick Town, Frickley Athletic, Calum McIntyre’s Runcorn Linnets, and Nantwich Town to get to this stage, so we must be on guard to avoid a huge shock. We will be up against two former Seals today, who are Neil Young and Gary Jones. Manager Neil needs no introduction to us as he of course guided us to three consecutive promotions following our rebirth as a Phoenix club and will go down in Chester FC folklore. Sadly for him a disappointing start to our first season back in the Conference saw him get the sack in January of 2014, but he will want to be the man to guide Marine back to Step 3 football having been their manager since September 2018. Hopefully Young, the master of winning promotions, will make up for the Lancashire side missing out last season by going all the way this campaign. Also, Gary Jones is Marine’s assistant manager who was here under Neil Young from 2010-14 as our assistant manager, and he was also briefly our caretaker manager in 2014 after Young got sacked. Despite Neil being at Marine for two years Gary only arrived in the Summer of 2020, although he will play a key role behind the scenes.
Even though The Lilywhites will give it their all to write their name in history, this game is equally massive for ourselves because we are within touching distance of competing in the 1st Round. To give us the best possible chance of that happening though we must put out a very strong side, and having listened to Bernard Morley yesterday evening it is reassuring that he will take that approach. I’m pretty sure Paddy Lacey has served his suspension now (someone correct me if I’m wrong), so I’d definitely start him in place of George Glendon who deserves a rest, and I’d also start Matty Hughes for the first time this season as he deserves a full 90 to prove himself. I back us to win this in comfortable fashion after an early scare. Up The Seals!
Score: Chester FC (Elliott, Bauress, Hughes) 3-1 Marine (Cummins) Attendance: 0 (0 Marine)
My predicted lineup: Gray Morgan Livesey Grand Taylor Jackson Lacey Weeks Bauress Hughes Elliott
COYS!

I hope the boys are up for it.
I am a little worried that those who are playing for free and have been promised contracts when the NL money came through might be feeling a little disheartened with all the nonsense going on there. Presumably if it isn't resolved, we won't be able to give some of them contracts.

Presumably if it isn't resolved, we won't be able to give some of them contracts. In their own interests to win the game, with the prize money on offer. In any case I don't doubt they will be committed. Just hope we don't have one of our slow starts and let them get their noses in front. Like to think that on our own pitch we should be OK

Said to a mate in the week that it would be absolutely typical Chester to go on a magic FA Cup run, reach the third round and draw a massive Premier League side away in the one season where fans aren’t allowed in the ground.

I'm travelling up to Scarborough this afternoon so won't be able to watch it unfortunately. I'll have to listen to the Marine commentary via their YouTube channel.
I'm going for a 3-1 win. 1-0 at half time followed by a jammy Marine equaliser before we turn it around with our 3rd goal coming in the last 5 mins!

What time can I access the game via streaming, is the link Chester.com/streaming and does it take you to the coverage once you click it?

Once you have paid for the stream it usually shows a picture or video of the ground, but is not doing that at the moment. Hopefully it will kick in shortly

I suspect a big part of Burke’s first team contract is because other clubs have been sniffing around and we want to protect our interests (fee etc).
