The funniest thing about this election is that Trump is basically counting the cost of the fact that his followers do exactly as he says. I love that it looked like he would win at one point only for the postal votes to completely screw him over. There will have been Trump followers who would have voted by post if he hadn't told them not to but then had to self-isolate on election day, or simply forgot what day it was, couldn't find their polling station, managed to lock themselves in their own house or whatever. Let's be honest, some of them are pretty dopey!
Also, (and I'm happy to be educated on this) doesn't the fact that the Republicans still look likely to win the Senate send out a clear message that Trump is the problem, and there are moderate Republicans out there who support the party but couldn't bring themselves to vote for him?
I really hope than in 10 years or so, the world can look back on the late 2010s and early 2020s as a strange political time that we have learned from and should not be proud of.

As if somehow the Tories of the last 10 years are the ârightâ side...
Killing the population and starving their children whilst laundering taxpayers money to their backersâ coffers may sit right with Upsanddowns but Iâm no narcissist.

Of course it sits right with you, you voted for them and said I âbacked the wrong sideâ - your interesting word choice of âwrongâ rather than something like âlosingâ.
Just saying what I see pal.

Bye Bye UK/US trade deal. Lol Go Joe Biden. Thing is, Biden for me was the lesser of the two evils. It wonât change the USâ role in worldwide wars, their role in the democratic elections of other, predominantly Latin/South American countries, the role of Big Pharma. Itâs more of the same for the real people of the country, just with much less racism and mental deficiency.

I admit, He is not great, but a massive improvement on the neo fascist Trump and He will uphold the Good Friday Agreement, along with the Irish bloc, in congress, So, goodbye US/UK trade deal . And this in turn creates more problems for Boris and his Brexiteers, lol Biden will be more democratic and anti racist, but he is a life long member of the US establishment and will continue along a neo liberal path. However, the victory could embolden the American left, which supports Saunders, but supported Biden, against the toxic Trump. A lot of the young people who voted are far to the left of the current leadership And there lies the hope of change

The reasons I would've voted Biden if I were in the US are largely the same as the reasons I will probably vote Starmer/Labour in the next election here:
1. He's better than the alternative, and the only realistic chance of a change. 2. Even if you don't like the leader, if you vaguely get behind the party in power, it's easier to gradually nudge it closer to the ideology you support. You can see that here by the fact that what only 6-7 years ago was a minority Tory government headed by an arguably socially liberal leader in Cameron, is now a majority government full of obnoxious, far-right arseholes.
Plus, in the UK, you're also voting for your local MP, who in my case (Margaret Greenwood) I have a lot of time for.

It's kind of interesting that, like in the UK, people have the impression that there's a huge north and south divide to how Americans vote. Even a look at the map shows it's more like a coastal/inland divide, but a closer, county-by-county reveals that, like in the UK, its the urban dweller who tends to be left-leaning while the rural ones veer to the right.
Even in Texas, which is probably the first state most Brits think of when they imagine the ultra-conservative Bible Belt, the major cities like Houston and Austin vote Democrat, and pretty convincingly so. The states that are most staunchly Republican are the ones that have miles and miles of nothing and all anyone probably does is go to church, like Wyoming. Meanwhile, Washington DC, which is just a city that is effectively a state of its own, is 92% democratic. It kind of makes it all the more daft that they decide the president in this state-by-state way. We talk of California, New York etc as blue states and Utah, Idaho etc as red, but all this is really a reflection of is how many people live in the cities compared to the outskirts.
The peculiar exception appears to be Alaska, where I think the two big cities Anchorage and Juneau are full of Sarah Palin types, but the remote areas vote Democrat.

Not sure about your first statement about Starmer being better than the alternative. He appears to be just sitting in the shadows, keeping his head down just in case someone asks him for an opinion on something. He really has got to be the most wishy washy opposition leader ever. Don't get me wrong I think Johnson and his bunch of cronies have f@@ked everything up on an unbelievable scale, but I don't think Starmer offers anything like an alternative.
