The games just keep on coming as we make the journey to Yorkshire tomorrow night to take on Farsley Celtic away where we aim to record our first victory in almost a month. This will be another tricky away test, but with all due respect to Farsley we simply have to be coming out on top in these type of games if we are to have play-off aspirations, hence this is dubbed as a must-win for us. We picked up a very credible point at Brackley Town a couple of days ago, so we must back that up by picking up all three tomorrow which would put us in a much better place following our lengthy break.
Our last match was on Saturday as we drew 1-1 away against Brackley Town in what was a very even affair. The first period was relatively okay by us as we started off well, but for the final 15 minutes of the half we sat back very deep and invited pressure from the home side. We managed to see the half out though as a lack of goalmouth action kept the clash deadlocked at the half time interval. Meanwhile, the second half produced more fiery moments in the centre of the park, as well as elements of frustration as we rued a number of good opportunities. In the early stages of the half we made it 1-0 as a Brad Bauress corner sailed all the way to the back stick towards Jordan Cullinane-Liburd, who glanced in a header to score an own goal. We were only in front for 10 minutes however, because a Matt Lowe effort on the edge of the area went all the way through a forest of Seals bodies for Brackley Town to make it 1-1. Things dimmed down even more for us with full time on the horizon, as Joel Taylor got sent off by receiving his second yellow card in the space of just three minutes. Brackley’s numerical advantage arrived too late in the game for them to grab a winner - cue a sigh of relief from the away dugout.
Farsley Celtic have made an underwhelming start to the campaign as the West Yorkshire sit only three points above the drop zone with just one win in nine - making it a must-win for us. The Celt Army are still unbeaten at home though, as they have snatched points away from the hands of York City, Gateshead, Leamington, and Kidderminster Harriers, so they may not be as bad a side as their position in the league table suggests. Our opponents are now in their second season since their promotion back to the National League North having fared really well last time out, although as it stands it looks like the Leeds-based side may be experiencing a bout of second season syndrome, hence we must exploit that.
In my view we definitely need to shake-up our attacking options tomorrow evening, otherwise I feel we will be in for another 90 minutes of tearing our hairs out. George Waring is definitely the type of player who should usually start in these sort of away games against tough, physical sides on dismal pitches, but I haven’t been too impressed with him lately as the goals have dried up and he has missed a few too many sitters. The blame isn’t all on him though as Anthony Dudley has equally been disappointing, so in my opinion I would like Lloyd Marsh-Hughes to start because he more than deserves a chance, and has got the build to cut it in these types of encounters. We haven’t got a great deal to lose otherwise because I can’t really see Dudley and Waring all of a sudden performing immensely, so I think they need to be out for a couple of games so we can test the waters with our future prospects to see where they are at. I am also a fan of the 4-5-1 formation we sometimes use in tricky away matches because it enables us to pack out our midfield, but as effective as that is it also brings in limitations to our strike force. As shown on Saturday poor Danny Elliott had little to no support, so in order to avoid a repeat of that young Lloyd should start tomorrow as a foil to him, which will also hopefully rectify that issue. It won’t be pretty but I’m going for a scrappy 2-1 win which would be just fine. Up The Seals!
Score: Farsley Celtic (Parkin) 1-2 Chester FC (Bauress, Marsh-Hughes)
Attendance: 0 (0 Chester FC)
My predicted lineup:
Gray
K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor
Jackson Glendon Lacey Bauress
Marsh-Hughes Elliott
