I don't get this attitude, I follow the Club because I love Chester FC, I don't need us to win every week to stay invested. This season is unprecedented we might get in the play offs or we might not. I don't understand the unrelenting need for promotions. Does anyone really think if we we're in league 2 we'd get more than 2,500 through the gate? We'd be dead in the water. You all know why you follow Chester and success isn't the reason. How far up would we have to get before people are happy? whats the difference between playing York and Plymouth. We're not going to win the premier league it's just lower league football, people talk about league two like its a revered league and everyone cares about it. In Chester nobody cares about us. Get through this year. maybe make the playoffs maybe don't. I am happy to support the team, you cant always be the best team. Without doubt this year is about surviving. We have almost no playing budget. The most significant shortfall this club has is the people of Chester who don't back the club. These players played for free in the playoffs and some of them are still playing for free. Most took reduced wages, they're not world beaters but they play for the shirt. I'm in it for the community and belonging that being a Chester Fan brings. We built a club from nothing and are still going. Ask yourselves what you really think is enough from Chester FC. If you really need us to be losing every game in league 2 then fair enough. I want a squad of players who are honest and hard working who can distract me from the hardships of life twice a week. UTFS Thank you for your thoughts and constructive reply. I completely understand the unprecedented times etc. And perhaps survival is the most important thing at present . Of course I done expect us to win every week . The points you make about apathy and lack of interest in Chester for our club. It’s always been that way . I feel that this league is awful and that we need to be out of it ASAP . I’ve spent over 30 years watching us . The standard is awful but you put up with it as you say due to the love of the club. We should be doing all we can to get into a national league and become sustainable within it . How are we goi g to do that without investment ? I’ve no idea . Personally I find it sad and heartbreaking that we are in this awful league I totally agree, I've watched us in league 2 watching us compete week in week out with teams that have gone onto play in the premier league and even won the FA Cup, and it's sad to think of the gulf between us now. I genuinely believe everyone involved in the club is doing all they can to get us promoted in a sustainable way. I have absolutely no doubt that is everyone's top priority. The only way we do it without a white knight arriving is through hard work. More volunteers, more fundraising and most importantly getting people into the games and hooked on watching Chester FC. I don't think for one second people who aren't interested in watching Chester v Gateshead will suddenly be more inclined to watch Chester v Stevenage or Chester v Morecambe in League 2. It's not the league that's keeping fans away it's the apathy. We can't use "It's always been that way" as an excuse if Jono or Bern said that after losing a match we'd all be furious. Drag people down. Buy them tickets for every Birthday or Christmas. We have to grow the club, crowd and CFU. That's the only option open to us right now and it will require everyone of us to work at it. We shouldn't expect the Players and Management to give everything to get us promoted every week if we are not ourselves. That's Fan Ownership like it or lump it. It's all we've got.

To me the suceed question is simple, question - how do you get a reasonable size city interested in cfc answer - we haven't found it yet I know we try, but excluding sucess on the pitch 5k against northwich we havent been sucesfull, apathy is a curse. I find it a bitter pill to swallow when I see a city like ours turn its nose up at us

This. The NL is the worst league of the lot to be stuck in. It's noticeable that a lot of the people are complaining we're in a 'crap regional league', are exiles. The sad fact is though the games aren't more enjoyable in the NL. Games against Woking, Dover, etc, are less interesting than those against the likes of Hereford, Darlo etc. There's more money bags funded clubs around the NL, with hardly any supporters. The Northern clubs, however, are our more traditional opponents. We've all just slid down the pyramid. The NL is just the stepping stone into the promised land of the FL. The question we might need to be asking is "what is the real benefit of the Hybrid system?" After all it is more expensive than being part time. Is it to help attract and bring through the young players? If so, should we be playing those younger players more regularly? In that case, we may need to accept that could make getting promoted more difficult, at least in the short term. As Time goes on I can't see any benefits of the hybrid model currently, especially this season as we'll be playing a midweek game most weeks. Very little money at our level, and many quality players with good quality careers outside football. All hybrid does is exclude those players. Poor choice to go hybrid.

Two chances of something special since the end of lockdown and f*cked them both. We were in the playoffs, so chose to do nothing so that Alty could get seriously match fit, and this gave them them an uncatchable lead. No point in being the better team for the last half hour. FA Cup - home draw against a team 2 leagues lower. Couldn’t be better. Yet again a back four incapable of a clean sheet, and the inevitable sucker punch. No promotion, no spectators, and no FA Cup money. At least we still have the same amazing back four, still no idea how to keep a clean sheet, and of course the top quality JJ. Congratulations to both Marine and Chorley for reaching the 3rd. Round, and to their managers.

I can see patience wearing thin with these managers if we are still dropping points to mediocre teams at the turn of the year.
Yes we are in extraordinary financial circumstances, but so is every other club - and to hear the same excuses trotted out week after week is already starting to grate. Undoubtedly we’ve gone backwards since last season.

We've got the best 2 managers since Bignot, and Elliot who's going to score 30 plus goals this season, the future is bright.

Happy with the managers but Elliot will not score anywhere near 30 goals this season, sorry. Elliott has got potenial His movement is good and he gets himself, in decent scorimg positions I would be happy, if he could get 10 or 12 goals The main problem, is that he cant play, as a lone striker, he needs either Waring, Goodwin etc, up there with him He is better with the ball playefd into the channels and off the shoulder of the last defender.

Undoubtedly we’ve gone backwards since last season. Sadly it’s beginning to look like we may be going backwards. Let’s hope we can string a run of three of four wins together . The squad this season is the best we’ve had over the past three seasons. Really should be pushing for play offs. As we get fitter after the COVID situation let’s hope the tide turns. If we continue with Saturday Tuesday as we are at present. There is going to be little training time which can’t be helpful

It's the same issue we had last season - without Asante upfront we are toothless. Elliot will score 10 or so goals this season if he plays regularly, however, he is playing in his favoured position and yet offering very little. The balls into the box don't help that granted - how John Johnston gets a game is beyond me. He is the definition of a headless chicken! We concede too many sloppy goals and then don't have the firepower to rectify that. Our midfield is possibly one of the best in the division but as a unit what's in front of them and behind them isn't good enough. There's always a clammer to throw the young lads in, but they need to be gradually introduced and assessed on merit not on a desire for an academy talent to make it at the club. Will Goodwin had little time to make an impact - maybe he's worth a bit more game time over the coming weeks, but to expect him to become the goalscorer we are missing is unreasonable. There have been question marks over Bern and Jono for quite some time. They talk a good game, play the finance card at every turn and are associated with a lot of disappointment since they joined us. But, what are the alternatives?

Good luck to him - did a great job in those early years, but our club and situation has moved on.

Apart from Neil Young, there is also an excellent non-league manager who also fits in a full-time job as a Community Primary School Headteacher. His assistant manager is also very good.

Managers who do well at a level with players they know, can struggle when moving up the leagues. Maybe they are impressed by the technically better players from ex league clubs. However, they don't do as well with them. Think Elton Ngwatala. Technically really good, but completely ineffective. NY was excellent for us. Seems a decent bloke too. Not sure he'd do that well here now. Developing players didn't seem to be a strength of his.

Certainly can't disagree with the revolving door policy NY had. Similarly Bern & Jonno had a reputation at Salford for being ruthless with players who weren't performing for him. That is my biggest bug bear with this squad of players, some will agree some won't but pre season I raised concerns with all the strikers being retained from last season and the lack of a third younger centre half to put pressure on Grand and Livesey. The positives have been the consistency shown by Glendon, Weekes and Lacey but we need to get Jackson back to the fitness and form of last season as so much comes through him. Same with the fullback Taylor who hasn't been up to the standards of last season. Early days still, and let's hope with fans soon to be allowed back in smaller numbers it will focus the players minds because we are gifting teams goals on a weekly basis.

Jackson has probably been the biggest disappointment this season even before the COVID break he has shown nothing at all this season, I watched a compilation of Asante’s goals for us and an awful lot of them were set up by Jackson bombing past multiple defenders and putting the goal on a plate.

Hasn't looked fully fit this season, whether that's down to illness, injury or a combination of the two, he also seems heavier as well. We need him back to last season's form though as he's a massively important player to us offensively.

Recruitment doesn’t come any better than George Horan, Michael Wilde, and Antoni Sarcevic. The manager(s) find them and the board should capitalise on them. In that regard I remain bitterly disappointed that we failed to get any reward from the departure of Ben Heneghan and latterly Asante. We could also have “sold” Burr when Eastleigh came calling, instead of keeping him only to sack him later and pay off his contract, I hear for about £80k. We progressed continuously for three seasons under NY, and, in my view, foolishly tried to continue when we should have consolidated. Been going backwards ever since, and I lay that at the feet of successive Boards in allowing money to be wasted. You are correct, it’s all about budget!

This c word .. consolidation keeps cropping up. Can you expand on what you mean and what we should have done when we hit NL? With hindsight perhaps we should have sacked Neil Young and brought in someone with better knowledge of the league (nb I say with hindsight). I think we had a 450k budget that season, but we recruited badly in key areas, plain and simple. The following season was our best since reforming. We were an established mid table club, playing attractive football. The biggest mistake imo was retaining McCarthy after the disastrous end to his first season in sole control. There was wide support for a change but we just skeepwalked into relegation. What I don't see is any lack of consolidation, just a few poor decisions. That doesn't make us unique.

And then the core of Young’s side went over to Connahs Quay and kept on performing there too. Yes league of Wales but to be frank, a not too dis similar level to us now. Thought Young just needed some guidance once he got into the NL but his removal was slightly premature and I agree, we’ve not really progressed on or off pitch since then. However I’m still in full support of Bern and Johnno and I for one am not writing this season off - no reason we won’t finish in the playoffs and it’s a lottery from there. Out of interest what’s their salaries? Both must be top end of non league gaffers?
