Get real before you embarrass yourself more. Many people have been disappointed with his form, and now will be delighted he has had a respectable game at last. They support the club and pay for the privilege, along with a right to express an opinion. True but you should be as generous with praise where appropriate as you are with criticism. He was excellent today, played a part in all three goals and to grudgingly describe his performance as "respectable" is pretty unfair. Last time I checked, football is a game of two halves, 90 minutes in total. Not a great first 50 minutes from anyone. Excellent in patches.

Much needed win. The league table is all over the place...York have something like 6 games in hand but they're going to have horrendous fixture congestion. Points on the board is the name of the game and just see what happens. Looks like there are no mugs this year ...BPA got a point at Fylde, Kettering best Kidderminster tonight. Didn't see the game tonight but three goals speaks for itself. Shame Goodwin didn't get one to cap off what sounds like an excellent full debut. Feel we are definitely better with two up front

Next week I hope to be freezing my buns off back at the ground, so it was great to sit on a warm sofa and enjoy that. Something of a bits and pieces performance, but hard to argue with 3-0. Livesey my MOM: never missed a ball all evening. The two up front looked much better, and for a raw kid Goodwin did really well (it's probably the quality of the picture, but he reminds me of Ian Holloway a bit). Pleased for JJ - I've been a critic before, but credit where it's due, he affected the game positively tonight, and the spin and pass to Elliot for the pen was worth the watch on its' own. A word to the production team. Our stream is really excellent; far better than any of the away games, and the commentary is good too - particularly enjoying Calum's 'summarising' too. Well done all. Agreed, the streaming is a real credit to all involved but as you say - I really hope to actually be there next week.

Much appreciated and very honest assessment from Bernard Morley. Should keep the players feet on the ground.

Comfortable win which in my opinion anyway never looked in much doubt. I’d go along with the 3-0 score flattering us a bit though, the final goal felt harsh on Alfreton who did have a few moments in the second half.
It was a scrappy game that wasn’t a good watch, we didn’t really pass it about and hoofed it a lot, maybe just matching up to what we know a Billy Heath side is all about. Johnston, Morgan and Goodwin were the standouts from my view and it was nice to see the latter fit in so well on his first start.
Much needed good showing from Johnston who made things happen and should get the man of the match vote. He did really well in the lead up to the penalty to turn his man. Even when he’s playing well I still find myself often cursing his decision making in the final third though, I just think he’s probably that sort of player.
Needed that. Three points and a first clean sheet.

A great result. Goodwin reminds me of John Murphy the way he plays. JJ had a great game, don’t know what’s wrong with Taylor he doesn’t look as if he wants to play at the minute. Alfreton line up same as every other season minimum height 6ft 5 and Billy Heath whinging constantly from the sidelines. All in all a good night.

Great result and performance.Rode our luck at start of 2nd half but two classic goals and first clean sheet of the season. The stream is very good and commenters and summarising by the Linnets manager is always entertaining.Let’s hope York’s lack of match action gives us the edge on Saturday.Love to take the smile of that Sean Newton’s face as he always looks so smug.!!

The last time I saw him, he was playing upfront on his own for Staylebridge I told you this lad had the makings of a really decent player. But of course you never get anywhere playing kids and you never get any money for them if they do turn out to be good lol

Bern's comments were pretty honest.
We weren't great until the 2nd goal. After that it was fairly comfortable. Might have been a lot different if they'd scored, when they should have. What was Gray doing??
As others have said JJ had a really good game. Goodwin did well for 60 mins or so. Decent debut. Livesey didn't miss a challenge.
Some strange results agsin tonight. Makes a big difference how many games teams are playing, or not playing. Training and fitness must be affected.
Some tough games coming up now.

I was just typing "how bad can we get" and we score out of the blue Pretty poor performance though. No one can pass to a blue shirt Think lack of sustained training is taking its toll on team shape etc Interesting how opinions can differ so greatly on the same game! Perhaps as the game settled you gave benefit of doubt? The ball stuck up top more tonight than it has the previous 3 games - not just with the monster of a forward Goodwin but Elliott was much tidier with his first touch too. Looks like we've finally found a partnership that could work. Goodwin - a really bullish forward who's got the physicality to steamroll through a defence. You could forgive a young forward for simply wanting that dream full debut goal but that was unbelievably mature from him tonight... drop into space, control, out to winger, provide option in behind - wise beyond his years. Maybe I should listen to you more midfieldgeneralJohnston had his best game of the season. My MOTM but nice touch on Twitter for Goodwin to win the fans vote. Big call for York now... do you keep him in... go for experience? Morgan showed Kev Roberts he's not got an easy way back into the side - maybe an opportunity there to rest Livesey/Grand? I was quite impressed. Maybe my expectations have been lowered from the past few performances.

I dont think Kev is as good as either Livesey or Grand. Decent cover though. Sean Newton is a tough opponent for anyone. I'd play Goodwin again though. Assuming we play 2 up.

Great stream and good summaries from Callum. I’m not a season ticket holder btw. Ok we got lucky with them hitting the post and bar twice in quick succession. No one has mentioned the referee who I thought did very well. Goodwin looks a prospect . As has been said be good if we could make it work with him and Elliott playing together. Looks a realistic option in tonight’s showing. They don’t change do they with what is being kind a fairly functional type of football. I felt once we settled down we look as if on tonight’s showing we may have found a way to play against this sort of side which there are several of in this league. That I felt was pleasing. JJ and JM impressed tonight . Good to get back to winning ways . Need to push in at York now. Let’s hope we have an advantage from playing a few games against st a side that haven’t been playing of late .

Enjoyed that some really nice football amongst that tonight a couple of really good flowing counter attacks that actually lead to decent chances, JJ could of scored two goal of the season contenders tonight but that's asking too much from the footballing gods.
One thing that stood out to me today that was different from recent matches was that Alfreton didn't/couldn't commit the tactical fouls to stop our quick breaks. last two matches once we got the ball on the turn there would be a quick foul to settle them back into their own half. Gave us a chance to really get them on the back foot the sort of football I love to see us play.

From the lows of Saturday to the highs of tonight with firstly, the excellent news about the King George V Hub being approved then this fantastic result to make it an evening to remember. I do think the 3-0 scoreline flattered us a little as it wasn’t a flawless performance, but it was still much better than Saturday because we actually kept a clean sheet for once, and were a lot more clinical up top. We have been waiting to give somebody a good beating for a while so although our performance wasn’t overly worthy of a 3-0 thumping, I am still delighted we recorded a convincing win because it puts the paper over the cracks, dissolves some of our recent negativity, and best of all it puts us back in the play-off conversation. Alfreton Town were an average side who, to be fair, gave us a couple of scares and had some decent chances of their own, but they weren’t too big a worry really as the football they played was pretty dire, and they had a rather hapless defence.
We began the first half in slow fashion because it was Alfreton Town who had the better of the chances early doors, as it was them who used the possession more to pose us some questions. I was very puzzled with how we defended in those early stages, because we were really hesitant by lashing the ball at the first opportunity rather than considering where we wanted it to go, and we gave away some stupid corners too. It was a rather wobbly opening 20 minutes by us but thankfully we were let off the hook due to Alfreton’s dire corner taking and finishing in front of goal. Our start certainly wasn’t one to set the pulses racing and produced more concern than optimism, but after that 20 minute stage we came into it more by sussing out that Alfreton were there for the taking. We were much more ambitious and exciting in our forward play, as Will Goodwin and John Johnston were particularly instrumental going forward. JJ lost the odd ball but he was much more engaged in our play, while Will was superb on his debut by holding up the ball well, spreading it out wide effectively, and having a really good go at Ofton’s defence. Our only goal of the half fell on the 20th minute mark as Danny Elliott converted from the penalty spot, after Josh Clackstone clearly handled the ball so fair play to the referee for giving us the correct decision. From that moment onwards we remained comfortable as we held on to a slender but deserved lead at half time.
Meanwhile, the second period was pretty much a carbon copy of the first as it was Alfreton Town who began as the brighter side. Again, we had our moments defensively as we still conceded a few too many corners, although unlike the first half we were much more successful at dealing with them as our approach to them was less panicky. Alfreton had one or two opportunities to equalise, but thankfully that was the best it got for them as we moved up a few gears as the game went on. After the hour mark we eased any slight fears of shipping away another clean sheet, as Jamie Morgan put the game to bed with an excellent strike into the far corner following brilliant play by John Johnston and Danny Elliott. I’ve been a bit critical of Anthony Dudley lately, but hats off to him for putting the gloss on the scoreline, as he made an excellent impact by passing into the net after brushing past a couple of opposing defenders. We’ve been crying out for a bit of lady luck lately, and although our showing wasn’t worthy of an emphatic 3-0 success, I will easily take it all night long as we deserve a bit of fortune.
Brilliant to see things go our way again after a difficult past few weeks, so let’s hope this victory will put us on the road to recovery. Even though many of us have been sceptical about our recent results, we surprisingly find ourselves in the play-offs for the first time in a few weeks which is very refreshing to see. There’s still an awfully long way to go but maybe we aren’t in that bad of a position after all. I’m not going to start waving the flags just yet, but if we win some of our four games in hand and come out of our other upcoming games victorious then we will actually be in a very good position. Up next is a difficult looking test at York City on Saturday who have made a solid if not unspectacular start to the season. I feel for them as they’ve only played five matches so far, the fewest in our league, and given they’ve won two, drew two, and lost one nobody knows what to make of them. Many of their supporters are disappointed about their start so it’s critical we get at them from the beginning to put them under. They’ll be backed by 2,000 home fans which’ll put them at an advantage too so it won’t be easy. I put us down to lose 2-0 earlier on today as we fail to turn up against the big teams, although after tonight who knows what will happen. Great to get that winning feeling back anyway, and I’m even more glad that we don’t have to talk about negativity for once, so let’s hope it’s onwards and upwards from here on.

Peers too. Doesnt matter, though Goodwin looked the part and was effective. Strong, carried us up the pitch and worked back. Good feet too for a big lad. Id give him a run with Elliott.

Good win...didn't play brilliantly but worked so hard upfont, midfield and at the back.Only disappointment was Joel Taylor who looked disinterested and didn't make one run all match unlike Morgan. One of our main strengths is quality overlapping full backs so would like to see more of this.

Scrappy game and we've passed the ball much better in other games this season, but as Callum pointed out they did press Glendon and Weeks to try and force us into going long and making it a scrap. This is why the selection of Goodwin worked as he had the physically and energy to give their backline a bit of an uncomfortable evening and consequently the ball stuck better. Elliot linked the play better than he has done too, and it was JJ's best game for us which he needed for confidence. We rode our luck for a few minutes in the second half but once we got the second I sensed a real desire to keep that clean sheet and we dug in well. Morgan gave us some good energy down the right side, but someone needs to coach him into clearing his lines, he seems to panic every time he tries to clear from the area. It was another quiet evening from Taylor, he doesn't seem to make those overlapping runs as often these days which is a shame as you'd think having Bauress in front of him would give him some license to bomb on. The scoreline did flatter us but we were definitely worth the points, and as Bern said it was just a case of making sure we won the game tonight.
We don't seem to ever do well against York but with them playing so few games its an opportunity for us to go there with some confidence and a win would put us right back in the mix. It's going to be a strange season....teams are all taking points off each other and it doesn't seem the end of the world if you have a bit of a bad run as you can easily get back up there again. A team with a bit of consistency (not losing games) will be right up there, I don't think the champions are going to need to win matches week in week out this season.

Better performance with two quality goals. Defending still frenetic at times and we still seem to have difficulty in controlling the ball and using it, too many firsts time flicks which more often than not give the ball away.

Sam Hughes is another big unit. I'm sure one of the issues in throwing some of the kids in is that they're not strong enough. There will always be exceptions but if you look at football and sport in general it's going down that road..it's the real athletes who prosper. Obviously need talent too but a lad like Goodwin can hold his own already which gives him a head start. Even after watching Matty Waters for a couple of seasons I was still thinking he needed to spend summer in the gym and add a bit more muscle.

Good 3 points last night but I think the real test as to where we are this season is the next 3 games. York, Hereford and Boston.
If we can come out of these with 5-7 points then I personally think it’ll really kick us on over the Xmas and New Year period.
Failing that, may be a few calling for the managers heads but for me they need to see this season out and we assess from there.

Would echo others’ comments re the streaming and commentary compared to other teams. Really looking forward to getting back to the Deva but will miss Calum’s punditry. You learn so much listening to what he says - really impressive and a credit to the club.
Thought the ref was good last night as well - best we’ve seen for a while, I think.
Really pleased for Goodwin. What a great debut - not just for his efforts on the ball but off the ball too/keeping defenders occupied whilst others attacked.

“So he did absolutely everything that we expect of him. There was no surprise from him. He is going to be a really good player. We have to manage his and everyone else’s expectations. When you get lads with no fear, it is just picking the right games to put them in because they can absolutely cause chaos. Although he didn’t get his goal he put in a really strong performance.” www.cheshire-live.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/no-fear-praise-teenage-striker-19387959
