Little point in us getting a grant if no one else does. End the season now, null and void as not enough games played. To be frank, the concept that level 6 football is elite is fanciful. Guiseley having two number 5s on the pitch against us sums up that we are not playing elite football at this level.

No great surprise...neither is the fact that the 12 NLN clubs that want to end the season are largely in the bottom half of the league. Thing is, I find it hard to blame any club for acting in their own interests. York are alright because of the Godwell money, and I imagine Chorley will be because of the Cup run. Meanwhile, the clubs in the bottom half just want the season over, and we're somewhere in the middle. When the NL doesn't take a lead, everyone just looks after themselves. Agreed - wasn’t being critical it’s just the inevitable outcome when no one (ie NL) is showing any sense/leadership. In that vacuum all you can do is look after #1.

I’m amazed the Premier league has managed to avoid any flack considering we are indirect and in the case of the National league direct feeds into the football league via promotion, it would have been a drop in the ocean to them even in these difficult times to bale out non league at this level and even below. Even if the decision was made to close down all of non league it could have been done with a package of aid which would mean all the teams could restart next season if safe to do so instead of possibly the worst case scenario in which most of the lower non league will just disappear never to be seen again. I'm not sure that lower non-league would disappear, never to be seen again. It might not be sustainable in its present form, but I think that there is sufficient passion for it and disaffection with top level football to keep lower level football going. It would take a knock, but I think it would ultimately come back to some extent.

Fans in general will have a lot less disposable income for a few years until the world sorts this shit storm out.

I agree that it would affect the ability to pay large amounts out, but maybe lots of things would have to change. I'm not saying it would just restart as it was if things did fold.

Or did the NL just mislead their clubs in order to get the season started, in the belief we'd be ok by January. If clubs had known the full picture back in September they wouldn't have started the season. Did DCMS make it clear regarding further funding, or was it left open? The NL have no evidence to back up their claims. On the subject of individual club grants. What is stopping us from applying anyway? We are different from most clubs in that we are community owned. We'll be down £100k that was raised by the community. Surely we should be applying, if we haven't already. The grant application can also be backed up by the superb community work the club does. The recent work re: mental health, helping the elderly and vulnerable would also be key components of the grant application,

Or could it just go towards the club until we start the new season whenever that might be ? Such a complicated situation.

This league is shit and the board couldn't find a can of lager in a brewery unless it benefited them, I really don't hold much hope of a solution.

We all thought that fans would be back in grounds (even in limited amounts) by Christmas. The NL may have also thought the same thing, which is why any 'funding' would end in March with the assumption that clubs could fund themselves from then until the end of the season. The NL dropped the ball when starting the season without assurances that the funding would be grants and not loans. But the Clubs themselves must take some responsibility in this. Some sort of documentation should have been put in place confirming the funding was grants NOT loans, I think that the clubs just assumed that the money would be grants based on the first payments were. If this is the case then the Clubs bare some of the blame too. The whole thing has been a balls up

After all the board was involved directly in the negotiation with DCMS, and allocated the money as it saw fit. If the onus is on the clubs to check everything the board does, then what's the point of having a board?

And they call this elite sport! Top to bottom, the National league set up is pathetically run. Do the clubs have to accept some responsibility? Of course they do, they make up the entire membership.

I suspect what happened is the DCMS hinted at grants but never put it in writing to cover their backsides, and the NL never asked for it. The government are deceitful weasels and the league are incompetent wazzocks. Nothing we didn't already know there.
I still say if the miserly muppets in the House of Commons would just cough up a comparatively measly £11m - money that they are denying us, rightly or wrongly, through their own restrictions - it wouldn't matter that the NL are clueless. The Government is an unethical lender anyway as far as I'm concerned and has previous for changing agreements in the way private lenders wouldn't be allowed to, so I wouldn't touch a loan with a barge pole.

Ollie Bayliss tweet. Good for him. /photo/1 We'll probably never get to know. But if turns out lost gate revenue was low down on the NL priorities when deciding how it should be distributed, they should be made accountable. The main purpose of the grant was to help clubs cope with the loss of fans Not to Supplement loans paid from owners of sugar daddy clubs in order to put playing squads together or any similar reasons. Cant remember where I read it could have been the NL themselves "Lost gate revenue should be seen as the driving factor, although not the only consideration when determining how the Grant's shall be allocated" or words to that effect. Seems that other considerations were much higher up the agenda and lost gate revenue was less important. Won't look good for the National National if their regional divisions have to call time on the season. And the premier division is able to continue.

Exactly. I'm not just slagging CCFC on this. It's all 66 clubs. It is a serious wedge of cash, we should have had it in writing. The NL stance is ''the clubs just assumed that it would be in the form of grants''. Because of this even IF a club wanted to take things further and sue they can't. Because you cannot sue on 'assumption'. Basically....we have all 66 clubs been royally shafted!!

The blame rests with the National League - if they had distributed the first tranche of money based on loss of spectator income we would have sufficient to continue.

Apparently Abramovic has spent 110 million on paying off managers he's sacked at Chelsea, prior to Lampard's dismissal. Funny old game.

It's sometimes hard to visualise amounts like millions and billions, but here's something to think about - a million seconds is a week and a half, a billion seconds is 31 years. Jeff Bezos is reportedly worth $185bn, having made $70bn during 2020 alone. He could be a trillionnaire within ten years. I don't know how people like him can have the hunger to keep making money. If I had a tiny fraction of that I would not work another day in my life. £11million really is nothing in the great scheme of things.

But football needs to be funding itself, you can't expect the government to bail out clubs that will then piss it up on the wall on new players or pay off other debt. Money needs to filter down better, or better yet, get rid of the Premier league and the stupid excess it brings with it.

Right now, that line of income has been cut off BY the government. Rightly so, don't get me wrong, but still if the government isn't going to support clubs under the restrictions and is instead seeing it as an opportunity to get its money back later, no doubt with interest, what's it there for? A government's primary role is to serve and support its people, not to exert power on them. Simplistic maybe, but it's the way I see it.

Generally people who have too much wealth direct that wealth into power and control. They often develop megalomaniacal beliefs and want to dictate the way the world works. It's human nature. Just beware of billionaires telling you how to live your life. They may not be as benign as they appear!! 😃
